Daily Fantasy Baseball (DFS) - MLB FanDuel Lineup – 5/22/2018
It’s Tuesday May 22nd, 2018 and let’s take a look at the lineup I have going for tonight’s “Main” slate (7:05 EST) for the MLB FanDuel contests.
As always, remember to check the weather and the starting lineups when they are released as you don’t want to find out before it’s too late that you have someone in your lineups that isn’t going to be playing this afternoon!
If you want to sneak peak of my lineup before this article is released, remember to check out my video posted on Sports Chat Place Facebook page!
Here is my current lineup for today:
P – Caleb Smith (MIA - $7,200) – There are some top-tier pitchers going tonight in Gerrit Cole and Chris Sale, however, I’m going to with value tonight as I think Caleb Smith is coming in at a great price at just $7,200. Smith comes into his matchup against the Mets with a 4.22 ERA and 1.29 WHIP however, he had a ton of strikeout upside as he currently is posting a 12.02 K/9 ratio. Smith is holding opponents to just a .204 average on the season and has a nice matchup against the Mets who have the 2nd worst average in MLB against LHP. Smith has three 40+ point performances over his last 5 starts and as we just recent saw the LHP J.A. Happ have a big game against the Mets (7.0 IP, 0 ER, 10 K), I don’t see why Smith can’t put up a similar stat line tonight.
C/1B – Jonathan Lucroy (OAK - $2,300) – Jonathan Lucroy is hitting .302 so far in the month of May and has starting to pick up from a slow start to his season as he now is hitting .281 with 11 RBI’s on the season. Lucroy hasn’t had a HR on the year, but we know he capable of hitting HR’s and should be only a matter of time in which he gets his first of this season. Lucroy is 3 for 8 over his last two games and has a great matchup against Mike Leake who currently is sporting a 6.00 ERA while allowing opponents to hit .301 against him. Lucroy has some nice value in this matchup as he is 20 for 41 (.488 average) with 2 HR’s and 8 RBI’s against Leake in his career.
2B – Brian Dozier (MIN- $3,700) – Brian Dozier has been in a bit of a slump as of late and is hitting just .230 on the season, however, he still have some decent power as he comes into tonight’s matchup against Detroit with 7 HR’s and 16 RBI’s. Dozier will be up against Matthew Boyd of the Tigers tonight, who he has had some success against in his career as he is 13 for 30 (.433 average) lifetime against with 3 HR’s. Dozier is hitting LHP better so far this season as he has posted a .748 OPS and as he has the ability for a big game with his power, I’m going to take a chance on him tonight.
3B – Jake Lamb (ARI - $2,900) – Jake Lamb is welcome sight back in the Diamondbacks offense as his price tag is still under $3,000, I think he has some great value right now when is up against a RHP. Lamb seems like he has shaken the rust off over the past week and had a nice night at the plate yesterday as he was 1 for 2 with a HR and 2 BB’s. Lamb hasn’t had much success against Jhoulys Chacin in his career, however, as the Diamondbacks 3B hit .282 with 25 HR’s last season against RHP, I think he has too much value to pass up on at this price.
SS – Jose Peraza (CIN - $2,700) – Peraza comes into this game with just a .250 average with 2 HR’s and 10 RBI’s however, as I’m going to load up on some OF’s tonight, I think he has good value today as he has 7 SB’s on the season and has to love his matchup against Pittsburgh’s Jameson Taillon who he is 8 for 13 against in his career. Peraza has had reverse splits on the season as he has bunch much more productive against RHP as he has posted a .256 average and .647 OPS and as he has been a thorn in the side of the Pirates this season as he is hitting .385 (5 for 13) against him, I’ll take my chances with Peraza tonight.
OF – Justin Upton (LAA - $3,600) – Justin Upton is only hitting .250 on the season however, he has shown plenty of power as he comes into his matchup tonight with 11 HR’s and 34 RBI’s on the season. Upton is hitting .282 so far in the month of May with 7 HR’s and actually has been hitting much better on the road as he has a .286 average. Upton will be up against J.A. Happ of the Toronto Blue Jays tonight who although has the ability to throw a good game, Happ has the tendency of giving up HR’s as he already has given up 9 HR’s this season (8 vs. RHB). Upton is 4 for 8 lifetime against Happ with 2 HR’s and as he is reasonably priced, I think is a good option tonight in the OF.
OF – J.D. Martinez (BOS - $5,200) – I’ve saved a good amount of salary so I can get both of the Red Sox’s big bats in the lineup tonight with their matchup against Jacob Faria. Martinez has been incredible this season, especially as of late, and comes into this game with a .343 average with 15 HR’s and 41 RBI’s. Martinez is hitting .318 over the past week with 4 HR’s and has been crushing it in the month of May to the tune of a .351 average and 10 HR’s. Martinez has a .336 average, .730 slugging percentage, and 1.130 OPS against RHP’s on the season and I expect his dominance at the plate to continue tonight.
OF – Mookie Betts (BOS - $5,400) – The Red Sox have already faced Jacob Faria twice this season and it wasn’t pretty for the right-handed pitcher as in the 2nd matchup he lasted just 1.2 innings giving up 8 ER’s. Mookie has arguably been the best player in the AL this season and comes into this game with a .365 average with 15 HR’s and 32 RBI’s. Mookie currently has a 5-game hitting streak and is hitting .385 over the past week. Mookie has posted a .357 average and 1.140 OPS against RHP on the season and between the fact that this is the 3rd time he will have seen Faria this season and that he is hitting .429 against him in his career, I’m happy to pay up for Mookie tonight.
Utility – Robbie Grossman (MIN - $2,000) – Robbie Grossman paid off for us last night as the got us double-digit points and I’m hoping that the switch-hitting outfielder can have another decent night against Matthew Boyd of the Tigers tonight. Grossman is hitting just .237 on the season however, he has the power to hit a HR and he actually is a pretty patient hitter that can draw walks. Grossman has had a good history against Boyd as he is 6 for 20 lifetime against the left-hander with 2 HR’s and as he has a .286 average against lefties on the season, I think he once against has nice value at $2,000 tonight.
Have a great Tuesday everyone and Good Luck tonight!
