Daily Fantasy Baseball (DFS) - MLB FanDuel Lineup – 5/27/2018
Update (12:19 pm) - Have to make some changes as Nimmo isn't getting the start.
It’s Sunday May 27th, 2018 and let’s take a look at the lineup I have going for tonight’s “Main” slate (1:05 EST) for the MLB FanDuel contests.
As always, remember to check the weather and the starting lineups when they are released as you don’t want to find out before it’s too late that you have someone in your lineups that isn’t going to be playing this afternoon!
If you want to sneak peak of my lineup before this article is released, remember to check out my video posted on Sports Chat Place Facebook page!
Here is my current lineup for today:
P – Nick Pivetta (PHI - $8,000) – I’m one against not spending up at the pitcher’s position tonight and hoping to ride the hot hand of Nick Pivetta of the Philadelphia Phillies. Pivetta has been solid this season as he comes into this game with an impressive 3.23 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP. Pivetta has been outstanding over his last three games as he has gone a combined 19.0 IP, giving up just 1 ER while striking out 25. Pivetta has a 10.19 K/9 ratio and will be against a Toronto Blue Jays team that ranks 23rd in team strikeout rate. Pivetta has a 1.42 ERA during day games this season and as he is holding opponents to just a .167 average in day games, I like him at this price agianst the Blue Jays today.
C/1B – Jose Abreu (CHW- $3,800) – Jose Abreu is quietly having an outstanding season as the slugging first baseman comes into this game with a .319 average, 9 HR’s, and 30 RBI’s. Abreu is hitting .387 over the past week and which includes a monster 4 for 4 performance with 2 double and a HR yesterday. Abreu has at least two hits in 5 of his last 6 games and has a nice matchup agianst Blaine Hardy who is allowing RHB’s to post a .353 average and .889 OPS against him on the season. Abreu has a .302 average and .943 OPS agianst LHP on the season and I don’t see why he won’t continue his recent success in today’s game.
2B – Jonathan Villar (MIL - $2,400) – Jonathan Villar has been one of the more frustrating fantasy players this year as the switch-hitting 2B has shown the ability to put up big games as he has great speed and some power, however, with Villar struggling this season, he hasn’t been a regular starter in a very solid Brewers lineup. Villar is hitting .275 on the season with 2 HR’s, 12 RBI’s and 8 SB’s and as he is hitting much better agianst RHP this season (.295 average, 2 HR’s, 9 RBI’s), I imagine he gets the start this afternoon agianst the RHP Zack Wheeler of the Mets. Wheeler has put together some decent starts this season but still comes into this game with just a 5.32 ERA and 1.50 WHIP while allowing opponents to hit .277 against him. Villar is 1 for 3 lifetime agianst Wheeler and I’m hoping he can be a great value pick this afternoon.
3B – Travis Shaw (MIL - $3,700) – Travis Shaw is only hitting .259 on the season however, he has been great when it comes to power as the Brewers third-baseman currently has 13 HR’s and 35 RBI’s on the season. Shaw has been terrific as of late as he is hitting .350 with 3 HR’s and 9 RBI’s over the past week and I like his matchup agianst the RHP Zack Wheeler of the Mets on Sunday. Wheeler is allowing LHB’s to post a .273 average and .812 OPS agianst him and has given up 4 HR’s over his past 4 starts. Shaw has a .287 average and 1.028 OPS agianst RHP on the season and as he has a 1.008 OPS at Miller Park this season, I like Shaw today.
SS – Tim Anderson (CHW - $3,000) – Tim Anderson is hitting just .246 on the season, however, he has been showing everyone as of late why he was a 1st round draft pick a couple of years ago as he has 10 HR’s on the season to go along with 11 SB’s. Anderson has been incredible in the first two games of his recent series agianst Detroit as he is 5 for 8 with 3 HR’s and 6 RBI’s. Anderson has that nice matchup against Detroit’s Blaine Hardy who has struggled against RHP and Anderson has an impressive .313 average, .604 slugging percentage, and .969 OPS agianst LHP on the season. Anderson has great power and speed and with the way he is swinging the bat, I think he has great value at $3,000.
OF – Juan Soto (WAS- $3,400) – I’m going to go with the talented Nationals rookie Juan Soto today who although is only 19 years old and has been only up at the MLB for a week, has looked impressive and currently is hitting .294 (5 for 17) with a HR, 2 2B’s, 3 RBI’s, and 4 BB’s. Soto was tearing up pitching at all levels in the minor leagues this season as in his 39 games, he posted a .362 average, .757 slugging percentage, and 1.218 OPS. Soto hit .333 with a .988 OPS agianst RHP in double-AA and as I’m not overly intimidated by the RHP Elieser Hernandez of the Marlins, I’m going to take a chance on Soto this afternoon.
OF – Bryce Harper (WAS - $4,300) – Bryce Harper has struggled a bit at the plate this season when it comes to picking up hits, however, there is no denying that franchise player from Washington still has some of the best power in the league as he currently has 15 HR’s on the season with 36 RBI’s. Harper has been hitting a bit better as of late as he 2 HR’s over the past week and he has three multi-hit games over his last 5 games. Harper has a .598 slugging percentage and .999 OPS vs. RHP on the season and will be up against the inexperienced RHP Elieser Hernandez of the Marlins. Hernandez has pitched well for the Marlins as he has just a 2.08 ERA on the season but has allowed opponents to hit .280 against him and I feel if he makes a mistake agianst Harper today, Harper will be able to take him deep.
OF – Brandon Nimmo (NYM - $3,200) – I’m still kicking myself from taking Nimmo out my lineup the other night when he went 4 for 4 with two double and a triple and I won’t be making that same mistake today. Nimmo is hitting .277 with 4 HR’s and 7 RBI’s however is hitting .296 with a 1.054 OPS over the past week and has absolutely been outstanding in day games this season as he has posted a .429 average. Nimmo has a tough matchup against Jhoulys Chacin of the Brewers who has pitched really well as of late, however, Chacin is fared much worse against LHB’s this season allowing them to post a .268 average and .800 OPS against him. Nimmo has a .310 average and a 1.101 OPS agianst RHP on the season and I think he continues is recent stretch of solid play this afternoon.
Utility – Starling Marte (PIT - $3,000) – Starling Marte has a nice day coming off the DL yesterday going 2 for 4 with a solo HR and has had a nice season so far to day as he comes into this game with a .313 average, 7 HR’s, 20 RBI’s, and 10 SB’s. Marte has a tough matchup against the RHP Miles Mikolas who has pitched really well this season however, Marte has been outstanding agianst RHP’s on the season, posting a .331 average with 4 of his 7 HR’s. Marte is able to get us points in many ways both his power and speed and although the matchup is tough, I think Marte is too good of a player not to take at just $3,000.
Have a great Sunday everyone and Good Luck this afternoon!
