Daily Fantasy Baseball (DFS) - MLB FanDuel Lineup – 5/31/2018
Update (5:56pm) - Hi Everyone!
All right....had to make some changes as Gurriel isn't getting the start. Also, as the weather forecast has improved in St. Louis, I'm going to getting a few Cardinals in my lineup as that was one of the lineups I originally wanted to target but stayed away earlier this AM as the weather looked like it was going to be bad.
C/1B - Replaced Yuli Gurriel with Jose Martinez (STL)
OF - Replaced George Springer with Thommy Pham (STL)
OF - Replaced Brett Gardner with Dexter Fowler (STL)
I've updated the lineup image below!
Good luck everyone!
It’s Thursday May 31st, 2018 and let’s take a look at the lineup I have going for tonight’s “Main” slate (7:05 EST) for the MLB FanDuel contests.
As always, remember to check the weather and the starting lineups when they are released as you don’t want to find out before it’s too late that you have someone in your lineups that isn’t going to be playing tonight!
If you want to sneak peak of my lineup before this article is released, remember to check out my video posted on Sports Chat Place Facebook page!
Here is my current lineup for today:
P – Jose Quintana (CHC - $8,300) – I’m not going to spend up for a top-tier pitcher tonight as I think there is some great value with Jose Quintana of the Cubs who has an outstanding matchup against the New York Mets on Thursday night. Quintana comes into this game with just a 4.78 ERA and 1.48 WHIP but has shown flashes of his potential this season as he has given up 1 ER or less in 4 of his last 6 starts. Quintana has a solid 8.7 K/9 ratio and is facing a Mets team that is hitting just .216 on the season vs. LHP which ranks dead last in MLB. Quintana is holding LHB’s to just a .170 average on the season and as we’ve seen LHP’s (Caleb Smith, J.A. Happ) have big days against the Mets, I like Quintana at this price tonight.
C/1B – Yuli Gurriel (HOU - $2,600) – Yuli Gurriel is hitting .281 on the season however, it’s a bit surprising to see that Gurriel currently has just 1 HR and 16 RBI’s on an Astros team that can put up runs in bunches. Gurriel has been hitting the ball as of late as he is on a 7-game hitting streak and is hitting .313 over the past week. Gurriel has a nice matchup against Drew Pomeranz who hasn’t been able to put it together so far this season for the Red Sox and comes into this game with a 6.75 ERA while allowing RHB’s to hit .311 against him. Gurriel is hitting .286 against LHP’s on the season and with the wind blowing out in Houston tonight, I think Gurriel and the Houston offense can have a nice day against the Red Sox.
2B – Jose Pirela (SDP - $2,700) – Jose Pirela is hitting just .272 with 0 HR’s and 17 RBI’s on the season however, the Padres second-baseman has been hitting the ball well as of late as he has a .381 average over the past week and similar to Yuli Gurriel, I think it’s only a matter a time until he starts hitting for some more power. Pirela has a nice matchup against the LHP Wei-Yin Chen of the Miami Marlins who has really struggled on the road this season as he has posted a 10.95 ERA over three away starts. Pirela has fared well against LHP in the past as over his past three seasons he has a .299 average with a .847 OPS against lefties and as he has been batting in the heart of the Padres order due to some injuries, I think he has nice value at just $2,700.
3B – Christian Villanueva (SDP - $3,400) – Christian Villanueva is hitting just .236 on the season but the rookie has shown some great power this year as he already has 14 HR’s and 33 RBI’s. Villanueva is up against the LHP Wei-Yin Chen of the Marlins and is almost a must play against LHP as he has a .358 average, .943 slugging percentage, and 1.357 OPS against lefties on the season. Chen is allowing opponents to hit .333 against him on the road and has given up 5 HR’s in just 12.1 IP on the road this season. Villanueva has 8 HR’s in just 87 AB’s at home this year and as I’m still kicking myself for not taking him when he had 2 HR’s against the LHP Alex Wood of the Dodgers, I’m going to ensure I don’t make that same mistake tonight.
SS – Carlos Correa (HOU - $4,000) – Carlos Correa is hitting just .261 on the season but the star shortstop for the Astros has still produced at the plate as he currently comes into this matchup against the Red Sox with 8 HR’s and 36 RBI’s. Correa will be up against the very hittable Drew Pomeranz of the Boston Red Sox tonight and is hitting .302 with a .845 OPS against LHP on the season. Correa has absolutely dominated Boston during his short career as he has posted a .417 average (30-72) with 6 HR’s against the Red Sox. Correa is 3 for 5 lifetime against Pomeranz and as he is to good of a hitter to be hitting just .261, I think he has the potential for a big night in front of his home crowd tonight.
OF – Michael Brantley (CLE- $4,100) – Michael Brantley is finally healthy and is showing everyone in MLB what he is capable of as the veteran outfielder currently is hitting .343 with 9 HR’s and 36 RBI’s on the season. Brantley will be up against the RHP Jake Odorizzi of the Twins and has been crushing RHP’s this season to the tune of a .361 average and 1.013 OPS. Brantley has been on a tear over the past week as he has a .367 average with 2 HR’s and currently has a .993 OPS in the month May. Brantley is hitting .333 (4-12) with a HR against Odorizzi in his career and has been great against the Twins this season as he is hitting .417 against them with a 1.167 OPS.
OF – Brett Gardner (NYY - $3,100) – Brett Gardner had a tough start to his season as he is currently hitting just .256 on the season with 4 HR’s and 18 RBI’s however, the veteran left-fielder for the Yankees has really picked it up as of late as over the past week he is hitting .429 with 3 HR’s and 4 RBI’s. Gardner will be up against the Orioles Andrew Cashner who hasn’t been that great this season as he comes into this game with a 5.07 ERA and 1.67 WHIP. Cashner is allowing LHB’s to post a .895 OPS which includes 7 HR’s against him on the season. Gardner is hitting .294 against Baltimore on the season and as the outfielder still as some good speed to possibility get a SB, I like his price tonight at just $3,100.
OF – George Springer (HOU - $4,200) – As you can tell….I’m stacking the Houston Astros tonight against Boston’s Drew Pomeranz and no Houston stack wouldn’t be complete without George Springer. Springer has had a nice season for the Astros as he currently is hitting .284 with 11 HR’s and 34 RBI’s on the season. Springer is hitting .305 so far in the month of May and has been great against LHP on the year as he has posted a .321 average and 1.018 OPS against lefties. Springer is hitting .318 during night games and has a solid 6 of his 11 HR’s at home this season. Similar to his teammate, Carlos Correa, Springer has fared well against the Red Sox in the past as over the past three seasons he has .309 average and .951 OPS against Boston.
Utility – Franmil Reyes (SDP - $2,600) – Franmil Reyes continues to bash HR’s at the MLB level just like he did at Triple-A this season as Reyes comes into this game hitting HR’s in three consecutive games and has 4 HR’s in just 40 AB’s since being called up a few weeks ago. Reyes is up against Miami’s Wei-Yin Chen who certainly can give up the long ball and is currently has a 1.107 OPS vs. LHP on the season. Reyes has a 1.043 OPS at home and certainly has that HR upside that we look for in a value pick as he bashed 14 HR’s in just 36 games at Triple-A earlier this year.
Have a great Thursday everyone and Good Luck tonight!
