Mookie Betts (OF)- Injury Update – Fantasy Impact

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

This is a huge hit to the Red Sox and Betts fantasy owners as the star outfielder has been putting up MVP numbers so far this season. Currently, Betts is hitting .359 with 17 HR’s, 37 RBI’s and 13 SB’s.

There will obviously be no single player available on your waiver wires that can replace Betts, who won’t be eligible to come back until June 8th, but let’s take a look at some available players that could help you out over the next week.

Brandon Nimmo – New York Mets (ESPN 38.5% / Yahoo 42%) – Brandon Nimmo has had an opportunity to get playing time on an everyday basis since Yoenis Cespedes went on the DL and Nimmo has taken advantage as he currently is hitting .293 with 7 HR’s, 14 RBI’s, and 5 SB’s. Nimmo has 3 HR’s over the past week as going into tonight has had three consecutive multi-hit games. Nimmo has been crushing RHP on the season to the tune of a .318 average and 1.115 OPS and as he can also get you a steal here and there, he warrants some attention if you need an outfielder.

Austin Meadows – Pittsburgh Pirates (ESPN 67.5% / Yahoo 58%) – If you have yet to check out the Pittsburgh rookie who was called up a little less than two weeks ago, do yourself a favor and check out what he is doing. Meadows is hitting .409 with 4 HR’s, 7 RBI’s, and 3 SB’s in just 44 AB’s this season and even with Starling Marte returning from injury, has almost forced the Pirates to keep him up in the big leagues. Meadows has a 1.583 OPS vs. LHP and is hitting RHP to the tune of a .419 average. You’ll have to keep a close eye on his playing time as Pittsburgh has a crowded OF, however, if he is starting and just can afford to keep on your team until Mookie gets back, he is worth a look.

Ben Zobrist – Chicago Cubs (ESPN 25.8% / Yahoo 15%) – Ben Zobrist is quietly producing for the Cubs so far this season as the veteran utility man currently is hitting .294 on the season with 4 HR’s and 17 RBI’s. Zobrist is hitting .304 with 2 HR’s over the past week and over his last two starts is 5 for 10 with 2 doubles, 2 HR’s, and 4 RBI’s. The switching hitting Zobrist is hitting over .285 as both a LHB and RHB on the season and as he has been recently leading off for the Cubs, he could be a nice source of runs if he can continue to hit as has been.
