DFS – Fantasy Baseball – MLB DraftKings Lineups, Picks & Advice – 6/30/18 – Afternoon Slate – 4:05 PM
Update (1:55 PM) - Hi Everyone! Had to make some adjustments as Lucroy and Schoop aren't starting today. We ended up replacing Brian McCann as a similar "punt" play at the catcher position. We ended up dropping Rhys Hoskins which opened up salary to afford two LHB's from Oakland in Jed Lowrie (2B) and Dustin Fowler (OF). Good Luck everyone!
We couldn’t get it done last night in our 50/50’s for DraftKings as our Cleveland stack was pretty disappointing, Corbin didn’t do anything out standing, and our two “punt” plays provided us with zero points. We we’re able to sneak out victories on our 50/50’s over at FanDuel but it was going to be hard to do well last night without having any Nationals in our lineup. Let’s get back on track this afternoon with 4:05 PM slate.
Similar to my FanDuel lineup, I’m going to be taking a big chance in fading both Verlander and deGrom today as I’m just not willing to pay up for either of them today. Verlander hasn’t topped 30 DK points in any of his last six starts with two sub 20-point performances and just hasn’t looked like the same pitcher we saw at the beginning of the season. deGrom had his worst outing of the season against the Marlins earlier this year and as he missed last night’s start due to “family issues”, I think there could be a bit of red flag with him today if his not 100% focused on this game. For my lineup today, I’m going to be taking chances on Tyler Mahle (P) of the Cincinnati Reds and Vince Velasquez (P) of the Philadelphia Phillies. Mahle has a decent 3.98 ERA and although he done a lot better job as the season going on limiting the HR’s as he has given up just 2 HR’s over his last 6 starts. Mahle has good stuff and can make people miss as he has an 8.5 K/9 ratio. The Brewers a bit banged up as Cain is out and Yelich and Braun are battling injuries and as Milwaukee ranks 22nd in team strikeout rate, I like Mahle to possibility get us 40+ points today. Velasquez is risky, however, he did just look great agianst the Yankees and you have to like him in DFS with his 10.8 K/9 ratio. Velasquez was solid in his only start versus Washington this season (5.0 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 4 K’s) and I’m just asking him to get us about 20 points this afternoon.
On the offensive side, we’re going to start with an Oakland Athletics stack as we like the Matt Olsen (C/1B), Marcus Semien (SS), and Khris Davis (OF), and Jonathan Lucroy (C) in their matchup against Cleveland’s Adam Plutko who comes into this matchup with a 4.65 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. Plutko has given up a bunch of HR’s this season as he has a 2.3 HR/9 ratio and Oakland has fared well agianst RHP this season as they rank 10th in MLB in team average and 8th in OPS. Olsen doesn’t hit for a huge average, but he has great power and has 17 HR’s and 41 RBI’s on the season. Olsen has a .800 OPS vs. RHP and has an impressive 8 HR’s in the month of June. Semien has been swinging a hot bat as of late as over his past three games he is 5 for 11 and we like him today as he has HR-upside and has hit much better vs. RHP on the season. Khris Davis has 20 HR’s and 54 RBI’s on the season and is long overdue for a HR. Similar to Semien, Davis is much better agianst RHP as he has posted a .532 slugging percentage and .861 OPS against righties on the season. Lucroy is really just a “punt” play I’m adding to this stack, however, he has hit .269 over the past week and is hitting RHP’s much better this season (.209 avg vs. LHP; .279 avg vs. RHP).
We’re going to look in Baltimore for a few of our infielders today as we are rolling with Jonathan Schoop (2B), and Danny Valencia (3B). The Orioles have a tough matchup agianst the LHP Tyler Skaggs who had just a 2.69 ERA, however, both Schoop and Valencia are pretty affordable and have upside vs. an LHP. Schoop has really struggled with the batting average this season as he is hitting just .197, however, he has shown he can hit HR’s and was outstanding against LHP last season, posting a .300 average, .593 slugging percentage, and a .954 OPS. Valencia is hitting .321 at home this season with 5 HR’s and as currently has posted a .282 average, .506 slugging percentage, and a .867 OPS vs. LHP on the year.
With the money we’ve saved, we are going to be able to load up for our last two OF spots as we’ve going to be going with Rhys Hoskins (OF) of the Phillies and Mike Trout (OF) of the Angels.
Rhys Hoskins has looked great since returning from his Jaw injury and over the past week, is hitting .286 with 4 HR’s and 9 RBI’s. Hoskins has some of the best pure power in the game and has been outstanding during “day” games this season posting a 1.070 OPS.
Mike Trout has one of the best matchups on the slate agianst the RHP Andrew Cashner of the Orioles who enters this game with a 4.70 ERA and 1.62 WHIP and has given up at least 3 ER’s in four of his last five games. Trout is once against probably the best overall player in MLB and currently is hitting .321 with 24 HR’s, 49 RBI’s, and 13 SB’s. Trout is hitting .361 on the road this season and has a 1.723 OPS vs. Baltimore in 11 AB’s this season.
Please check back later as I’ll make any necessary adjustments to the lineup due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
