DFS – Fantasy Baseball – MLB FanDuel Lineups, Picks & Advice – 6/30/18 – Afternoon Slate – 4:05 PM
Update (1:47 PM) - Had to make some changes as Schoop (BAL) is not getting the start. I decided to take a "punt" play chance with Tim Beckham (BAL) as he is leading off today. We had to take Machado out but did make upgrades in our infield as we are now going with Asdrubal Cabrera (NYM), Jed Lowrie (OAK), and Andrelton Simmons (LAA). I've updated the image below! Good Luck.
I’m still in shocked that we were able to at least cash in our 50/50’s last night for FanDuel as I didn’t high have hopes after waking up this morning and seeing the Cleveland Indians, who we stacked 4 of their better hitters, scored just 1 run against Paul Blackburn and the Oakland A’s. Lucky for us, Stroman did have another solid outing for the Blue Jays and our offense did just enough (49th place out of 100) to cash.
I’m going to be rolling the dice a bit this afternoon as I’m going to fade on both Justin Verlander and Jacob DeGrom who are the two clear-cut top options on the slate. Verlander has been great this season, but has only topped 50-points in 1 of his last 6 starts and just isn’t worth the $12,000+ salary. deGrom had his start pushed back due to “family issues” which depending on what that really is, could mean his head is not completely in this start. deGrom pitched well agianst Miami in his last start but actually had his worst start of the season against the Marlins earlier this year, giving up 4 ER’s in just 6.0 IP. I’m going to be taking a chance on Cincinnati’s Tyler Mahle (P) who had a matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers. Mahle has a decent 3.98 ERA and although he done a lot better job as the season going on limiting the HR’s as he has given up just 2 HR’s over his last 6 starts. Mahle has good stuff and can make people miss as he has an 8.5 K/9 ratio. The Brewers a bit banged up as Cain is out and Yelich and Braun are battling injuries and as Milwaukee ranks 22nd in team strikeout rate, I like Mahle to possibility get us 40+ points today.
On the offensive side today, we’re going to be looking at three teams in the Oakland Athletics, Baltimore Orioles, and Los Angeles Angels.
Starting with the Oakland Athletics, we like the Matt Olsen (C/1B), Marcus Semien (SS), and Khris Davis (OF) in their matchup against Cleveland’s Adam Plutko who comes into this matchup with a 4.65 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. Plutko has given up a bunch of HR’s this season as he has a 2.3 HR/9 ratio and Oakland has fared well agianst RHP this season as they rank 10th in MLB in team average and 8th in OPS. Olsen doesn’t hit for a huge average, but he has great power and has 17 HR’s and 41 RBI’s on the season. Olsen has a .800 OPS vs. RHP and has an impressive 8 HR’s in the month of June. Semien has been swinging a hot bat as of late as over his past three games he is 5 for 11 and we like him today as he has HR-upside and has hit much better vs. RHP on the season. Khris Davis has 20 HR’s and 54 RBI’s on the season and is long overdue for a HR. Similar to Semien, Davis is much better agianst RHP as he has posted a .532 slugging percentage and .861 OPS against righties on the season.
The Baltimore Orioles are probably the riskiest stack we have this afternoon as they have a tough matchup agianst the LHP Tyler Skaggs of the Angels who has been on a roll as of late and currently has a 2.69 ERA. When it comes to the Orioles, I’m going to go with Jonathan Schoop (2B), Danny Valencia (3B), and Manny Machado (Utility). Schoop has really struggled with the batting average this season as he is hitting just .197, however, he has shown he can hit HR’s and was outstanding against LHP last season, posting a .300 average, .593 slugging percentage, and a .954 OPS. Valencia is hitting .321 at home this season with 5 HR’s and as currently has posted a .282 average, .506 slugging percentage, and a .867 OPS vs. LHP on the year. I was able to spend up for Machado as the Orioles SS has been great this season posting a .305 average with 20 HR’s and 56 RBI’s. Machado has a .355 average and 1.112 OPS at home and is hitting .308 over the past week.
Rounding out the lineup with be Kole Calhoun (OF) and Mike Trout (OF) of the Angels in their good matchup against the RHP Andrew Cashner of the Orioles. Cashner is a below average pitcher who comes into this game with a 4.70 ERA and 1.62 WHIP and has given up at least 3 ER’s in four of his last five games. Calhoun has looked much better since returning from his injury as in 32 AB’s in the month of June, he has posted a .281 average with 2 HR’s. Calhoun batted from the leadoff spot the other night which also gives him some extra value. Trout is once against probably the best overall player in MLB and currently is hitting .321 with 24 HR’s, 49 RBI’s, and 13 SB’s. Trout is hitting .361 on the road this season and has a 1.723 OPS vs. Baltimore in 11 AB’s this season.
Please check back later as I’ll make any necessary adjustments to the lineup due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
