DFS – Fantasy Baseball – MLB DraftKings Lineup, Picks & Advice – 7/3/18
Hi Everyone! It was a disappointing night on DraftKings as unlike FanDuel, I decided to roster Didi Gregorius in my Yankees stack instead of going with Francisco Lindor who had a monster night. Between that one decision and the fact that Chisenhall was a late scratch that we couldn’t adjust, we were just out of the money in our 50/50’s. Let’s try and get it back today!
On the pitching slate, I’m going to be going with Philadelphia’s Zach Eflin (P) and Cincinnati’s Anthony DeSclafani (P). Eflin has been solid for the Phillies this season as he comes into this matchup with a 3.02 ERA and 1.13 WHIP on the season and has allowed 2 or less ER’s in each of his last 5 starts. Eflin has a solid 9.1 K/9 ratio and faced a Baltimore team that ranks just 22nd in strikeout rate and 29th in team batting average vs. RHP (.225). Philadelphia should be able to give Eflin plenty of support as their up against Alex Cobb and Eflin has been incredible at home, posting a 2.59 average. DeSclafani has pitched better as of late as he has allowed just 2 ER’s in three of his last five starts. DeSclafani has a respectable 7.6 K/9 ratio and faces a White Sox team that can strikeout a bunch as they rank 29th in MLB in team strikeouts per game. DeSclafani has never faced anyone on the White Sox which is generally an advantage to the pitcher and as long as he can limit the home-run ball which can be trouble for him, I think he’ll hit value tonight.
On the offensive end, I’m going to be starting out with the Colorado Rockies and their solid matchup against Chris Stratton of the San Francisco Giants. Stratton comes into this game with a 4.45 ERA and just got rocked by Colorado at home in his last start, going just 4.0 innings while giving up 8 hits and 5 ER’s. For the Rockies, I’m going to be going with Ian Desmond (1B) and DJ LeMahieu (2B). Desmond is hitting just .215 on the season, however has put up some impressive power numbers as he has 17 HR’s and 48 RBI’s on the season. Desmond has posted a .300 average vs. the Giants this season and is 3 for 5 lifetime against Stratton with a triple. LeMahieu is hitting just .276 on the season with 8 HR’s and 30 RBI’s but does have hits in 4 of his last 5 games, including a monster performance against the Giants last week, going 3 for 4 with a HR and 5 RBI’s. LeMahieu has a .333 average against the Giants this season and is 3 for 5 with 2 RBI’s and 2 BB’s against Stratton in his career.
I’ll also will be rostering a couple of Houston Astros who have a nice matchup against the RHP Austin Bibens-Dirkx. Bibens-Dirkx has pitched well as of late, however, this is still a below-average pitcher who is allowing his opponents to post a .273 average against him on the season. We’re going to be “punting” Marwin Gonzalez (OF) and spending up for Alex Bergman (3B). Gonzalez is in the midst of an awful slump that has seen his average drop to just .230 on the season. We like Gonzalez tonight as he is super cheap and has HR power as an LHB as all six of his HR’s have come from that side this season. Bergman, unlike Gonzalez, has been on a tear as of late, hitting .458 over the past week with 4 HR’s and 8 RBI’s. Bergman currently has a 7-game hitting streak and has shown some great power numbers this season, posting 16 HR’s and 53 RBI’s.
Filling out the rest of my infield will by Yan Gomes (C) and Scott Kingery (SS). Gomes has been great for the Indians this season, posting a .254 average with 9 HR’s and 24 RBI’s. Gomes has been crushing Kansas City this season to the tune of a .389 average (7 for 18). Gomes has a .355 average and 1.057 vs. LHP and will be up against the LHP Danny Duffy tonight who he has a .391 average/1.174 OPS in 23 career AB’s against. Kingery is more of a “punt” play at SS for us just because he has that good matchup against Alex Cobb who is allowing RHB’s to post a .312 average and .908 OPS against him. Kingery has a .353 average in interleague play this season (12 for 34) and has enough pop in his bat to possibility get out a HR.
Rounding out the team today will be Jose Bautista (OF) and Joc Pederson (OF). Bautista has collected hits in 7 of his last 9 games while collecting 3 HR’s in that time period. Bautista will be back in Toronto, going against the HR-prone Marco Estrada, and as I’m pretty sure he is going to bring a little “extra” to his matchup, I like him his price tonight. Pederson had a huge month of June, hitting 10 HR’s for the month, and has a nice matchup against the RHP Ian Nova of the Pirates. Pederson has posted a .333 average with 4 HR’s against Pittsburgh this season and is 3 for 5 lifetime against Nova with two doubles in his career.
