DFS – Fantasy Baseball – MLB DraftKings Lineup, Picks & Advice – 7/5/18
Hi Everyone! We had a decent day yesterday as although Marcus Stroman provided us with negative points, our hitters picked up the slack for us and got us to easily cash in our 50/50’s. We got solid performances from Yuli Gurriel (23 points), Yoan Moncada (16 points) and our “punt” play in Russell Martin (11 points). Let’s keep the winning going today on tonight’s 8-game “main slate” that starts at 7:05 PM.
As much as I really like the match-up that Justin Verlander has against the White Sox tonight, he just hasn’t looked that sharp as of late and I can’t warrant paying $13,400 for him as he has failed to get up 15-points in his last two starts. On the mound for us tonight will be Atlanta’s Max Fried (P) and Seattle’s Marco Gonzales (P). Field has a great opportunity to hit value at his price tonight, especially coming off a 36.8-point performance against the Cardinals (6.2 IP, 0 ER, 11 K, QS, W). Fried has a solid 2.55 ERA over 17.2 IP this season and has strikeout stuff as he comes into this contest with a 12.2 K.9 ratio. Milwaukee can be a dangerous team at the plate, but also can strikeout a bunch as we saw when we took Tyler Mahle last week against them and he racked up 12 K’s. Gonzales has been solid for the Mariners on the season and although he had a couple rough starts as of late (on the road vs. BOS & NYY), he looked great against the Royals in his last start throwing a complete game while striking out 7. Gonzalez has a 3.06 ERA on the season and although he hasn’t fared great against the Angels, I think the upside is there to take a chance with him tonight so we can pay up a bit on the offensive end.
To kick off our offense we are going with a mini-stack with John Ryan Murphy (C), Paul Goldschmidt (C/1B) and Ketel Marte (2B) in their matchup against the Padres Eric Lauer who comes into this matchup with a 5.08 ERA and 1.76 WHIP on the season. Lauer has had a real tough time with RHB’s this season allowing them to post a .328 average, .520 slugging percentage, and a .910 OPS. Murphy is hitting .248 on the season with 9 HR’s and 23 RBI’s but you have to like his value tonight going up against an LHP as he has posted a .281 average, .579 slugging percentage, and a .907 OPS vs. left-handed pitching on the year. Goldschmidt has been on fire since the beginning of June and now is hitting .274 on the season with 19 HR’s and 48 RBI’s. Goldschmidt is hitting .423 over the past week and has posted a .301 average, .675 slugging percentage, and a 1.101 OPS vs. LHP on the season. Marte has slowed down a bit after a monster June in which he hit .304 and had a .980 OPS but we love this matchup as against LHP on the season, he has posted a .298 average and .867 OPS. Marte has six triples at home this season and I think he is due for a game with a couple of extra-base hits.
We are going to target a couple of RHB’s from the Houston Astros in Alex Bergman (3B) and George Springer (OF) in their matchup against the LHP Carlos Rodon of the White Sox. Rodon is a solid pitcher who comes into this game with a 4.55 ERA and 1.18 WHIP, however, Rodon does give up HR’s as he has a 1.8 HR/9 ratio and is allowing the current Astros roster to post a .292 average against him. Bergman has been solid as of late, hitting .304 over the past week with 2 HR’s. Bergman has an impressive 16 HR’s on the season and has a .303 average, .586 slugging percentage, and a .988 OPS vs. LHP on the season. Springer hasn’t been that great as of late, but this still is a guy who had 15 HR’s and 42 RBI’s on the season. Springer has been much better vs. LHP on the season, posting a .279 average and .887 OPS, and is hitting .308 against the White Sox this season.
Filling out our infield, will be Minnesota’s Jorge Polanco (SS) as he has a good matchup against the Orioles Andrew Cashner who enters this game with a 4.48 ERA and 1.57 WHIP on the season. Cashner is allowing opponents to hit .284 against him and can give up the HR ball as he has allowed 14 HR’s on the season. Polanco was recently reinstated after an 80-game suspension has looked decent as over his last two games he is 3 for 7 with a double, BB, and an RBI. Polanco is a switch-hitter who had 9 of his 13 HR’s from that side of the plate last season and comes in with great value at this price.
Rounding out our team in the outfield will be Washington’s Juan Soto (OF) and the Padres Wil Myers (OF). Soto has been unbelievable for the Nationals since being called up in late May and currently is hitting .306 on the season with 8 HR’s and 21 RBI’s. Soto will be up against Miami’s Pablo Lopez who gave up 2 HR’s in his only start of the season last week against the Mets and Soto has posted a solid .901 OPS vs. RHP on the year. Myers will be up against Arizona’s Shelby Miller who in his two starts of the season, has posted a 11.42 ERA and 2.08 WHIP. Myers is hitting .316 with a HR over the past week and has fared much better against RHP on the season, posting a .321 average and .873 OPS.
Please check back later as I’ll update the lineup with any necessary changes due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather!
