It was a rough day for us yesterday as our value pitcher didn’t work out for us as Atlanta’s Max Fried couldn’t follow up his solid performance against St. Louis against the Brewers yesterday as he lasted just 3 innings and gave up 4 ER’s. It was a tough day for us overall as although Ketel Marte (31.4 points) and Juan Soto (22.5 points) had nice outings, we got a combined 0 points from Paul Goldschmidt and Nick Markakis. Let’s put yesterday in the rear-view mirror and get back in the winning column for tonight’s “main slate” that starts at 7:05 PM.
We’re not going to mess around with our pitcher today as we’re going right to the top of the board and grabbing Chris Sale (P) from the Boston Red Sox in his matchup against the Kansas City Royals. Sale has been lights out as of late, as over his last three games he has gone 21 innings, giving up just 2 ER’s while striking out a combined 35 hitters. Sale has a 2.41 ERA on the season, 0.89 WHIP, and is holding opponents to just a .179 average. Sale has a ridiculous 12.7 K/9 ratio this season and as the summer has arrived, so has Sale’s fastball which we’ve seen hit the 100 MPH mark over his last few starts. Sale has looked unhittable as of late and although Kansas City can be tough to strikeout at times, I think Sale will be to continue his recent stretch of dominance tonight.
As we are going with Sale on the mound tonight, we’ll need to find some value with our offensive tonight and I think a great place to start will be with the Texas Rangers. The wind will be blowing out hard to right-field tonight in Detroit and have to like the Rangers match-up against the RHP Jordan Zimmerman who although has pitched well as of late, is still a very hittable pitcher as over the last three years he has a 4.76 ERA and is allowing opponents to hit .286 against him. For the Rangers, we’re going to roster Robinson Chirinos (C/1B), Joey Gallo (OF), and Nomar Mazara (OF). Chirinos is one of my very value plays however, with his recent performances, he is actually starting to get a little pricy. Chirinos has hits in 7 of his last 8 games which includes 3 HR’s and has 8 of his 11 HR’s this season against RHP. Gallo is one of the biggest “boom or bust” DFS players as although he is hitting just .192 on the season, he does have 21 HR’s and 48 RBI’s on the year. Gallo has some of the best power in the game and if he can just get one in the air, it won’t take much to get it out of Comerica Park tonight. Mazara is in a bit of a slump, but has been great for the Rangers this season, hitting .271 with 15 HR’s and 56 RBI’s. Mazara has a .283 average and .812 OPS vs. RHP on the season and is hitting .292 on the road this season.
We found some great value with the Baltimore Orioles today in their decent matchup against the Lance Lynn of the Minnesota Twins who enters this game with a 5.49 ERA and 1.68 WHIP on the year. Lynn has given up 11 ER’s over his last 6.2 IP and is allowing opponents to hit .271 against him on the year. For the Orioles we are going roster Jonathan Schoop (2B) and Tim Beckham (3B). Schoop has started to pick it up as he is hitting .333 over the past week and had a monster night last night, going 2 for 4 with 2 solo HR’s. Schoop has 8 of his 10 HR’s vs. RHP on the season and has been much better on the road this season. Beckham has hits in 7 of his last 8 games and although he hasn’t shown much power this season, he does have enough pop to get us a HR and has some extra value as he has been hitting at the top of the Orioles lineup.
In the outfield, we’re going to be getting Washington’s Juan Soto (OF) and Adam Eaton (OF) in our lineup today in their matchup against Miami’s Dan Straily who enters this game with a 4.70 ERA and 1.38 WHIP. Straily has given up at least 3 ER’s in each of his last five starts and has also has given up 7 HR’s in the same span. Soto is one of the more impressive rookies we’ve seen in awhile as the 19-year old is hitting .312 with 8 HR’s and 24 RBI’s since being called up in late May. Soto has great plate discipline and has posted a .905 OPS vs. RHP on the season. Eaton is starting to pick it up as of late as he scrappy center fielder is hitting .318 over the past week and has been great against RHP on the season, posting a .338 average and .874 OPS.
Rounding out our lineup with a “punt” play at SS with Philadelphia’s Scott Kingery (SS) who comes into his game tonight matched up against Pittsburgh Trevor Williams. Williams has struggled as of late as he has given up at least 3 ER’s in 7 of his last 8 starts and posted a 5.32 ERA in the month of June. Kingery is a talented young player for the Phillies who has hit much better on the season vs. RHP and as he has been hitting 6th in the order, I like his chances to do some damage tonight.
Please check back later as I’ll update our lineup with any necessary changes due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
