DFS – Fantasy Baseball – MLB FanDuel Lineup, Picks & Advice – 7/7/18
We bounced back nicely yesterday after a tough Thursday as we easily cashed in both our 50/50’s and GPP’s yesterday for FanDuel. We ended up making a lot of last second adjustments after Joey Gallo was a late scratch, however, it ended up being a good thing for us as that made us put both James McCann and JaCoby Jones, who each had HR’s in their matchup against Texas. Let’s try to make it two strong nights in a row as we take a look at tonight’s “main slate” that starts at 7:15 PM.
I’m not going to be paying for Max Scherzer tonight as although he is always a threat to go off for a 70-point night, he didn’t fare that well against Miami earlier this season as he lasted just 6.0 innings, giving up 4 ER’s while striking out just 4 Marlins. As I wanted to save a little in salary, I’ve decided to go with the Diamondbacks Robbie Ray (P) as he has one of the better matchups of the night, going up against the strikeout prone San Diego Padres. Ray recently had a tough outing against the Cardinals, however, he seems to bring his best stuff against the Padres as he is holding the currently Padres roster to just a .227 average while striking them out 34.1% of the time. Ray has an outstanding 13.5 K/9 ratio on the season which is what we look for in our DFS pitchers and could be in for a big night as the Padres rank 27th in team strikeout rate.
For our hitters tonight, we’re going to start off with a reasonably priced stack of the Kansas City Royals as we’re going to roster Whit Merrifield (2B), Jorge Bonifacio (OF), and Salvador Perez (Utility). The Royals have a decent match-up against David Price who comes into this game with a 4.28 ERA and is coming off a rough outing against the Yankees in which he lasted just 3.1 innings while giving up 8 ER’s on 9 hits. Merrifield has been on a tear as of late, hitting .360 over the last week and has some of the best speed in the game. Merrifield has been great against LHP on the season as he has posted a .382 average and 1.019 OPS against left-handers on the season. Bonifacio has been solid since returning from his suspension and makes a solid “punt” play as he has HR power and is hitting .333 over the past week. Perez is hitting just .215 on the season but does have 11 HR’s and has done great against Price in his career as he has posted a .357 average with 3 HR’s in 14 career AB’s.
We’re going to be going with a couple of Washington Nationals RHB’s in Trea Turner (SS) and Anthony Rendon (3B) in their solid matchup against the LHB Wei-Yin Chen of the Marlins. Chen has pitched better as of late however, has really struggled on the road this season posting a 9.85 ERA while allowing opponents to post a .361 average against him. Chen has really struggled against RHB’s this year as he is allowing them to post a .305 average and .895 OPS. Turner had a monster game the other night and has been great as of late as over the past week, he is hitting .406. Turner has been outstanding against the Marlins this season, posting a .375 average and 1.042 OPS. Rendon has posted a .306 average and .542 slugging percentage against LHP on the season and also has posted a solid .853 OPS at home this season.
We needed to get at least two Dodgers in our lineup as they have a great matchup against the Angels Deck McGuire who has a 7.56 ERA and has given up 5 HR’s over his last 7.1 IP. For the Dodgers, we’re going to go with Yasmani Grandal (C/1B) and Matt Kemp (OF).The switch-hitting Grandal is hitting .438 over the past week and has shown all of his power from the left-side of the plate as all 12 of his HR’s have come from that side of the plate. Kemp has been unbelievable this season for the Dodgers as the veteran outfielder is hitting .321 on the season while hitting 15 HR’s. Kemp is hitting .500 over the past week with 2 HR’s and 10 RBI’s and you have to like his chances for a HR tonight.
Rounding out the team will be the Red Sox Andrew Benintendi who I think is great value at this price against the RHP Brad Keller off the Royals. Keller has pitched well for the Royals this season however, he has a tough matchup against the Red Sox tonight as they generally hit RHP well. Benintendi has posted a .281 average on the season with 13 HR’s, 53 RBI’s, and 16 SB’s. Benintendi has posted a .302 average and .900 OPS vs. RHP on the season and you have to like his value batting near the top of that Red Sox lineup.
Please check back later as I’ll make any necessary adjustments due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
Good Luck Tonight.
