DFS – Fantasy Baseball – MLB DraftKings Lineups, Picks & Advice – 7/12/18
Update (6:36 PM) - Hi Everyone! I just made my updates for the night and updated the image below with my confirmed lineup! Good Luck Tonight!
It was another solid night for our DraftKings lineup as for the 2nd straight night, we cashed in both our 50/50’s and GPP’s. Basically, are team was carried by Chris Sale (39.55 points), Charlie Blackmon (32 points), Carlos Gonzalez (40 points), and Amed Rosario (17 points). We had a few disappointing outings by Mitch Moreland and Travis Shaw, however, it’s never disappointing in the end when we cash! Let’s keep this momentum going for tonight’s 7:05 PM slate!
On the pitching mound tonight, we are going to once against pay up for the top pitcher in Max Scherzer (P) of the Nationals and hope to find some sneaky value with Toronto’s J.A. Happ (P). Outside of some surprising struggles against the Marlins, Scherzer has been lights out this season and comes into this game with a 2.33 ERA and 0.89 WHIP. Scherzer has a ridiculous 12.5 K/9 ratio on the season and will be up against a Mets team that ranks 18th in team strikeout rate (8.66/game) and 28th in batting average (.230) vs. RHP. Scherzer is holding opponents to a .179 average on the season and can really make people miss as he has a 17% swinging strike rate. Happ has struggled a bit as of late, giving up at least 6 ER’s in his last two starts, however, the left-hander still has a solid 4.44 ERA and 1.18 WHIP. Happ has a tough matchup with the streaking Red Sox however, Boston has fared much worse against LHP on the season and we do like the k-upside that Happ brings with his 9.8 K/9 ratio. Happ had one of his best starts of the season against the Red Sox earlier this year (7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 10 K) and if he can even come close to those numbers again, he’ll be some great value tonight.
On the offensive end, we going to start off with looking at the Pirates in their nice matchup against the LHP Wade Miley of the Brewers who will be coming back to action after being on the shelve for the last two months due to an oblique injury. Miley pitched well in his only two starts of the season in May however, this is the same Wade Miley that finished last year with a 5.61 ERA and 1.73 WHIP while also allowing 25 HR’s in his 32 starts. For the Pirates tonight, we’re going to roster Francisco Cervelli (C), Josh Bell (1B) and Jordy Mercer (SS). Cervelli recently returned from injury and has been a solid contributor at the plate for the Pirates this season as he has 9 HR’s and 36 RBI’s on the year with a .849 OPS. Bell has been somewhat of a disappointment for the Pirates in his 2nd season as the switch-hitting 1st baseman is hitting just .251 on the season with 5 HR’s and 42 RBI’s, however, Bell is a nice option tonight as he does have a .297 average and .818 OPS as an RHB and has collected hits in 5 of his last 6 games. Mercer comes into this game with just a .246 average with 5 HR’s and 26 RBI’s however, is hitting .287 at home this season and is 5 for 11 (.455 average) in his career against Miley.
We’re staying in Pittsburgh as we’re also going to go with Travis Shaw (3B) and Hernan Perez (OF) of the Brewers in their matchup against the Pirates RHP Jameson Taillon who comes into this game with a 4.05 ERA and 1.23 WHIP. Taillon hasn’t been anything special over his last few starts as he has allowed at least 2 ER’s in each of his last six starts. Taillon has struggled more at PNC park this season and hasn’t fared well in his career against the Brewers as he is allowing the current Brewers roster to post a .308 average and .911 OPS against him. Shaw has some great power as he has 16 HR’s on the season to go along with 53 RBI’s and you have to like him tonight as he has posted a .526 slugging percentage and .885 OPS vs. RHP on the year. Perez is hitting .313 over the past week with 3 HR’s and has always seen Taillon well as in 18 career AB’s against the RHP, he has posted a .333 average with 3 HR’s and 8 RBI’s.
The Padres have a tougher matchup against Ross Stripling of the Dodgers but we get some needed “punt” plays in the Padres Jose Pirela (2B) and Manuel Margot (OF) who both have great career numbers against the Dodgers right-hander. Piera has been solid for the Padres this season and is hitting .273 over the past week with a HR. Pirela has been outstanding vs. Stripling in his career as he has posted a .833 average (5 for 6) with a double and HR. Margot also is hitting .273 over the past week and recently had a huge game against the Diamondbacks in which he went 5 for 6 with a walk. Margot has some HR-upside and similar to Pirela, has crushed Stripling in his career as he has posted a .667 average (4 for 6) with 2 doubles and a HR.
Rounding out the lineup tonight will be Joc Pederson (OF) of the Los Angeles Dodgers as the Dodgers have a great match-up against the RHP Tyson Ross of the Padres. Ross has really struggled as of late as over his last two starts he has given up 14 hits and 15 ER’s in just 7.0 IP. Ross has really been hit hard by LHB’s this season, allowing them to post a .303 average and .883 OPS. Pederson was a monster in the month of June for the Dodgers, posting a .867 slugging percentage and 1.225 OPS, and although July has been tough for him, there is no doubting his HR ability in this match-up against Ross. Pederson has been great on the road this season (.294 average/1.034 OPS) and I like his chances for a HR tonight.
Please check back later as I’ll make any necessary updates to the lineup due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
