DFS - Fantasy Baseball - MLB FanDuel Lineup, Picks & Advice - 7/12/18

Hi Everyone! I just updated my lineup was some necessary changes and our lineup is now confirmed! Image is updated below. Good Luck.

Hi Everyone! It was a tough night last night for our FanDuel lineup as although Chris Sale put up a monster 67-point performance, we really didn’t get any offensive production outside our “punt” play of Amed Rosario (21.2 points). It was a big mistake taking out Carlos Gonzalez of the Rockies and it was hard to keep up on the offensive end as we didn’t have any Indians or Rockies players last night. Let’s get back on track tonight and take a look at tonight’s 7:05 PM “main slate”.

On the pitching end, I’m going right back to the top of the board in Max Scherzer as although there are some decent value options out there, I’m not passing up the opportunity to roster Scherzer against that Mets offense. Outside of some surprising struggles against the Marlins, Scherzer has been lights out this season and comes into this game with a 2.33 ERA and 0.89 WHIP. Scherzer has a ridiculous 12.5 K/9 ratio on the season and will be up against a Mets team that ranks 18th in team strikeout rate (8.66/game) and 28th in batting average (.230) vs. RHP. Scherzer is holding opponents to a .179 average on the season and can really make people miss as he has a 17% swinging strike rate. Similar to the logic last night, as this will be Scherzer’s last start before the all-star break, I think he’ll go with a little extra tonight and against this Mets team, we could see a 70-point night.

On the offensive end, it will be another night in which we need to find some value as we’re paying up for Scherzer, however, I think we have nice options in the Dodgers/Padres game.

On the Dodgers side, we’re going to roster Yasmani Grandal (C/1B), Andrew Toles (OF), and Joc Pederson (Utility) in their matchup against the RHP Tyson Ross. Ross has really struggled as of late as over his last two starts he has given up 14 hits and 15 ER’s in just 7.0 IP. Ross has really been hit hard by LHB’s this season, allowing them to post a .303 average and .883 OPS. The switch-hitting Grandal has shown all his power as an LHB as all 12 of his HR’s on the season have been from that side of the plate. Grandal has a .839 OPS vs. RHP and a .856 OPS during “night” games on the season. Toles has been raking for the Dodgers Triple-A club all season (.326 average/.863 OPS) and is a very affordable LHB against the struggling Ross tonight. Toles went 2 for 3 with a double, 2 runs, and 2 RBI’s in his first game of the season against the Padres on Monday and he just has great value in his matchup tonight. Pederson was a monster in the month of June for the Dodgers, posting a .867 slugging percentage and 1.225 OPS, and although July has been tough for him, there is no doubting his HR ability in this match-up against Ross. Pederson has been great on the road this season (.294 average/1.034 OPS) and I like his chances for a HR tonight.

The Padres have a tougher matchup against Ross Stripling of the Dodgers but we get some needed “punt” plays in the Padres Jose Pirela (2B) and Manuel Margot (OF) who both have great career numbers against the Dodgers right-hander. Piera has been solid for the Padres this season and is hitting .273 over the past week with a HR. Pirela has been outstanding vs. Stripling in his career as he has posted a .833 average (5 for 6) with a double and HR. Margot also is hitting .273 over the past week and recently had a huge game against the Diamondbacks in which he went 5 for 6 with a walk. Margot has some HR-upside and similar to Pirela, has crushed Stripling in his career as he has posted a .667 average (4 for 6) with 2 doubles and a HR.

We have a couple of Pirates today in Jordy Mercer (SS) and Starling Marte (OF) as we really like their matchup against the LHP Wade Miley of the Brewers. Miley pitched well in his two starts this season but has been on the shelve for the majority of the season due to an oblique injury that has kept him out the last two months. Miley finished last year with a 5.61 ERA and 1.73 WHIP and also can give up some HR’s as he allowed 25 HR’s last season in his 32 starts. Mercer comes into this game with just a .246 average with 5 HR’s and 26 RBI’s however, is hitting .287 at home this season and is 5 for 11 (.455 average) in his career against Miley. Marte has been on a tear as of late, hitting .455 over the past week with 2 HR’s and also always seen Miley well as he has a career .467 average/1.033 OPS against the left-hander in 15 career AB’s.

Rounding out the lineup, I’m going to go with Milwaukee’s Travis Shaw (3B) who will be up against the Pirates RHP Jameson Taillon who comes into this game with a 4.05 ERA and 1.23 WHIP. Taillon hasn’t been anything special over his last few starts and has struggled much more against LHB’s this season, allowing them to post a .264 average and .769 OPS. Shaw has some great power as he has 16 HR’s on the season to go along with 53 RBI’s and you have to like him tonight as he has posted a .526 slugging percentage and .885 OPS vs. RHP on the year.

Please check back later as I’ll make any necessary updates to the lineup due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.

Good Luck!
