DFS – Fantasy Baseball – MLB DraftKings Lineup, Picks & Advice – 7/20/18
Update (6:00 PM) - Hi Everyone! Had to make some updates as Gomes isn't going tonight. Here is my final lineup that is confirmed! Good Luck!
The All-Star break is over which means we’re back in business with our daily MLB DFS lineups! We ended the 1st half of the season on a solid note as solid pitching performances by two punt plays in Lucas Giolito (27.25 points) and Tyler Anderson (17.9 points) led the way for us to cash in our 50/50 tournaments last Sunday. We loaded up on offense, which actually really underperformed but solid days by Edwin Encarnacion (18 points), Jose Ramirez (13 points), and Juan Soto (9 points) did enough for us to cash. Let’s take a look at the lineup we’re going with tonight and get the 2nd half of the season off to a great start!
On the mound tonight, we’re going to be going with the Royals Danny Duffy (P) and take a real chance with the Blue Jays Sam Gaviglio (P). Duffy is coming off one of his best performances of the season, a 31.6-point performance (7.0 IP, 0 ER, 8 K, 1 W, 1 QS) against the White Sox and had 23+ points in 4 of his last 5 starts. Duffy had a rough start to his season however has pitched much better as of late as he posted a 3.30 ERA in the month of June and a 2.84 ERA in the month of July. Duffy has a respectable 8.2 K/9 ratio and has been lights out against Minnesota this season as in his two starts, he has gone 12.0 innings, giving up just 1 ER while striking out 13. Duffy is priced way to cheap on DraftKings and I do expect him to be highly owned tonight. Gaviglio is more of a sneaky play as I just like the matchup he has against the Machado-less Orioles lineup who can strikeout a bunch against RHP. Gaviglio hasn’t been that bad this season, as he has a 4.58 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and has a solid K/9 ratio of 8.4. Outside of Tim Beckham, the Orioles really haven’t seen Gaviglio before which generally favors the pitcher and after watching Gaviglio pitch well against the Red Sox in 4 different outings this season, I’m a believer that he can do some damage tonight in this matchup.
On the offensive end today, we’re going to start off with a strong stack of the Cleveland Indians who have one of the best matchups of the night against the Rangers LHP Martin Perez. Perez looked decent in his first start back prior to the All-Star break after missing about two months of action due to an elbow injury, however, the LHP still has had a rough season as he comes into this game with a 7.67 ERA and 2.05 WHIP to go along with a 2.1 HR/9 ratio. For the Indians, we’re going to be stacking Edwin Encarnacion (C/1B), Jose Ramirez (3B), Francisco Lindor (SS), and Yan Gomes (Utility). Encarnacion hasn’t been hitting much for average this season, but there is no doubting that he still has great power as he comes into this game with 22 HR’s and 65 RBI’s. Encarnacion has been great against Texas this season, hitting .357 (5 for 14) with 3 HR’s. Ramirez is hitting .302 with 29 HR’s and 17 RBI’s and has recorded at least two hits in 5 or his last 6 games. Ramirez has been on fire in July, posting a .357 average and 1.187 OPS. Lindor has posted a .291 average with 25 HR’s and 62 RBI’s and the switch-hitter has been incredible vs. LHP on the season, posting a .376 average and 1.030 OPS. Gomes is an absolute steal at this price tonight as similar to Lindor, Gomes has been a monster vs. LHP, posting .324 average, .592 slugging percentage, and a .999 OPS. It will be over 100 degrees in Texas tonight and I can see the Indians piling on the HR’s tonight!
Filling out the rest of the infield will be Joey Wendle (2B) of the Tampa Bay Rays who will be going up against the RHP Dan Straily of the Miami Marlins. Straily has pitched better as of late, however, still has a 4.29 ERA on the season and is allowing LHB’s to post a .818 OPS against him. Wendle has hits in 10 of his last 11 games and has been on fire as of late as in his last three games, he is averaging 17.3 DraftKings points. Wendle has a .284 average vs. RHP on the season and is hitting .405 so far in month of July.
In the outfield tonight, we’re going to start off with a pair of Arizona Diamondbacks in A.J. Pollock (OF) and David Peralta (OF) as they have a nice matchup against Colorado’s German Marquez who enters this game with a 4.81 ERA and 1.39 WHIP. Marquez has struggled against the Diamondbacks as he is allowing the current roster to post a .312 average against him (44-141) and he has also struggled with the HR ball this season, posting a 1.5 HR/9 ratio. Pollock was having an MVP season prior to missing a month and half due to injury, however, he still having a solid season, posting a .285 average with 12 HR’s and 38 RBI’s. Pollock has fared well against Marquez in his career, posting a .500 average/1.345 OPS in 10 AB’s. Peralta is hitting .282 on the season with 16 HR’s and 53 RBI’s and has been a thorn in the side of the Rockies this season, posting a .433 average (13-30) against them with 2 HR’s. Peralta has also hit Marquez well as in 20 career AB’s, he has posted a .400 average and 1.178 OPS.
Rounding out the lineup tonight with be the Dodgers Kike Hernandez (OF) who has a plus matchup against the LHP Wade Miley of the Milwaukee Brewers. Miley hasn’t been awful in his few starts this season, but this is a guy that showed little control in his start against Pittsburgh prior to the All-Star break and has shown in the past, that he can give up HR’s as over his last two seasons, he has posted a 1.4 HR/9 ratio. Hernandez has great pop in his bat as he has hit 16 HR’s on the season and has always shown great isolated power vs. LHP.
Please check back later as I’ll make any necessary updates due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather!
Good Luck and have a great Friday.
