DFS – Fantasy Baseball – MLB FanDuel Lineup, Picks & Advice – 7/22/18
Hi Everyone! We hit on some of our 50/50’s in the afternoon contests yesterday however, our 141.7-point performance during the “main slate” fell just short. We went with value at pitcher with Trevor Cahill (29 points) and had solid performances up and down the lineup, outside of Brian Dozier (0 points), however, we couldn’t overcome solid performances by Justin Verlander (61 points), Yonder Alonso (43.9 points), and Corey Dickerson (43.4 points). Let’s end the week well as we look at the 1:05 Main slate.
On the mound, we’re going spend up tonight and go with the Red Sox’s Chris Sale (P) in his solid matchup agianst the Detroit Tigers. Sale has been absolutely dominant over the past month as he has 10+ K’s in 5 straight games and has given up just 1 ER over his last 27.0 IP. Sale comes in with a 2.23 ERA and 0.90 WHIP and is striking out hitters at a career rate as he is posting an incredible 13.1 K/9 ratio. Outside of Victor Martinez, the majority of the Tigers lineup have a “hit if over the fence” which could lead to a big day in terms of strikeouts for Sale and as I expect the Red Sox bats to wake up a bit in this one, I see another 60-70 point performance from the Red Sox left-hander.
As we’re going with Sale this afternoon, we’re going to need to find some value and we’re going north of the boarder as we’re going to stack the Toronto Blue Jays against Baltimore’s Andrew Cashner. Cashner hasn’t been anything special this season and comes into this game with a 4.56 ERA and 1.52 WHIP. Cashner is allowing opponents to hit .308 against him in road games and has struggled in the month of July posting a 5.11 ERA. For the Blue Jays, we’re going to be stacking Russell Martin (C/1B), Yangervis Solarte (3B), Curtis Granderson (OF), and Randal Grichuk (OF). Martin has had a tough season, hitting just .184, however, does have 7 HR’s on the season and comes into this game on a 3-game hitting streak. Martin was 2 for 5 with a HR yesterday and does have a HR against Cashner in his career. Solarte has been struggling in the month of July but there is no denying his HR-upside as he has 16 HR’s and 48 RBI’s on the season. The switch-hitting Solarte has a better average vs. RHP and has been much better at home this season. Granderson has crushed the Orioles this season, posting a .387 average/.774 slugging percentage/1.246 OPS and has a career .294 average vs. Cashner in 17 career AB’s. Grichuk comes into this game with a 4-game hitting streak and like Granderson, has fared well against Baltimore this season, posting a .379 average with 3 HR’s. Grichuk is just 2 for 8 lifetime agianst Cashner however, both hits have been HR’s.
Filling out the rest of our infield will be Tampa Bay’s Joey Wendle (2B) and Baltimore’s Tim Beckham (SS). Wendle has been on a tear as he is on a 5-game hitting streak and has an extra base hit, in each of those five games (2 doubles, 1 triple, 2 HR’s). Wendle is up against the RHP Trevor Richards who has a 5.93 ERA on the road this season while allowing opponents to hit .297 against him on the road. Beckham will be leading off for the Orioles again and I don’t hate his matchup against J.A Happ this afternoon who is prone to giving up HR’s and hasn’t been pitching well as of late as he had a 9.75 ERA so far over 3 starts in July. Beckham has enough pop to get us a HR and has posted a .357 average/1.080 OPS vs. Happ in 14 career AB’s.
Rounding out the OF today will be Cincinnati’s Jesse Winker (OF) and Dodgers Matt Kemp (OF). Winker will be up agianst the RHP Ian Nova of the Pirates who has really struggled on the road this season, posting a 5.74 ERA while allowing opponents to hit .299 against him. Winker is currently on a 12-game hitting streak and has been outstanding vs. RHP on the year, posting a .327 average and .889 OPS. Kemp will be up against the LHP Brent Suter of the Milwaukee Brewers who has been up and down this season and comes into this game with a 4.39 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. Suter has allowed 16 HR’s so far on the season and has struggled much more agianst RHB’s on the season. Kemp is having an outstanding year, posting a .311 average with 15 HR’s and 60 RBI’s. Kemp is hitting .338 on the road this season, .352 in the month of July, and has a .952 OPS vs. LHP on the season.
Please check back later as I’ll make any necessary updates to the lineup due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
