Hi Everyone! It was a high scoring night last night in FanDuel and although our team did put up 167.0 points, it was enough as we fell short of both our 50/50’s and GPP’s. We were spot on with our Angels picks as we had Tyler Skaggs (52 points), Mike Trout (56.6 points), and Luis Valbuena (25 points), however, our Oakland/Texas players didn’t do much damage and we couldn’t overcome another monster night by the A’s Khris Davis. Let’s take a look at tonight’s 9-game slate that starts at 7:05pm.
The pitching options tonight are pretty thin however, I do like the Pittsburgh Pirates Nick Kingham (P) who has a plus matchup against the New York Mets tonight. The rookie RHP for the Pirates has been pretty solid this season, posting a 4.11 ERA and 1.11 WHIP. Kingham has lasted at least 6 innings in each of his last three starts (18.2 IP, 6 ER, 17 K’s) and has a respectable 8.5 K/9 ratio on the season. Kingham has given RHB’s a ton of trouble this season, holding them to just a .195 average/.248 OPS. The Mets rank dead last in MLB in team batting average (.227) and 27th in runs scored and also strikeout as a team more than average as they rank 20th in team strikeout rate (8.66 K/game). Kingham doesn’t have as much upside as some over pitchers tonight, but I think he is pretty safe in this matchup and I think he can get us 40-45 points.
On the offensive end tonight, we’re going to start off with a couple of New York Yankees in Didi Gregorius (SS) and Aaron Judge (OF) in their matchup against Jakob Junis of the Kansas City Royals. Junis could be in for a long night at Yankee stadium as he comes not this game with a 5.03 ERA and has given up a bunch of HR’s as he has a 2.0 HR/9 ratio. Gregorius has some great value on FanDuel tonight and although he is hitting just .262 on the season, he has shown that he has plenty of power as he comes into this game with 17 HR’s and 56 RBI’s. Gregorius has been a monster at home this season, posting a .286 average and .915 OPS. Judge continues to be one of the better power hitters in MLB as he comes into this game with a .283 average with 26 HR’s and 61 RBI’s. Judge has a .291 average vs. RHP on the season and also has been incredible at home as he comes into this game with a .371 average/.754 Slugging Percentage/1.240 OPS.
We also went with a pair of Cincinnati Reds tonight as they will be at home in a good matchup against the LHP Ranger Suarez of the Phillies who will be making his MLB debut tonight. Suarez has put up some solid numbers in the minors this season, however, he isn’t projected to be that successful at the MLB level and doesn’t have overpowering stuff as he posted just a 6.5 K/9 ratio on the minors this season. For the Reds, we are going to be going with Tucker Barnhart (Utility) and Eugenio Suarez (3B). Barnhart has been a productive player this season, hitting .249 with 6 HR’s and 31 RBI’s and has had decent DFS value as he has been hitting in the top or middle of the Reds lineup for the past couple of months. Barnhart is a switch-hitter and although he doesn’t have a HR as an RHB this season, he has posted up good numbers against LHP as he comes into this game with a .328 average and .857 OPS vs. left-handers. Suarez has been a monster this season, posting a .305 average with 22 HR’s and 76 RBI’s and comes into this game with HR’s in three straight games. Suarez has been one of the best in MLB vs. LHP this season, posting a .381 average and 1.175 OPS.
Filling out the rest of the infield tonight will be some value plays in Minnesota’s Mitch Garver (C/1B) and Pittsburgh’s Sean Rodriguez (2B). Garver will be up against the LHP Brian Johnson of the Red Sox who is at best, an average pitcher, who is allowing RHB’s to post a .293 average against him. Garver has been on fire in his last two games, going 7 for 10 with a HR and 5 RBI’s and between the fact that he has HR-upside and that he will be at the very hitter friendly Fenway Park tonight, I think he makes a solid value play. Rodriguez will have more of a tougher matchup against the LHP Steven Matz of the Mets, however, Matz has been a little shaky as of late and can get hit hard against RHB’s. Rodriguez is hitting just .174 on the season, however, is hitting .400 over the past week with 2 HR’s and 5 RBI’s. Rodriguez has posted a .270 average and .914 OPS vs. LHP on the season and has been hitting for a better average at PNC Park.
Rounding out the team in the OF, we’re going to be going with sluggers Joc Pederson (OF) of the Dodgers and J.D. Martinez (OF) of the Boston Red Sox. Pederson will be up against Anibal Sanchez of the Braves who is coming off a rough start against the Nationals in which he allowed 2 HR’s. Sanchez has been a nice surprise for the Braves, however, I expect his numbers to regress a bit as this the same pitcher that pretty much had pretty much a 5+ ERA over his last three seasons. Pederson is hitting .556 with a HR since the All-Star break and has posted an impressive .292 average/.980 OPS vs. LHP on the season. Martinez has a HR taken away from his last night after their game against Baltimore was postponed, however, I’m sure it won’t be long for him to get that one back as he comes into this game with a .325 average, 32 HR’s, and 86 RBI’s on the season. Martinez will be up against the RHP Kyle Gibson of the Twins who ha given up at least 3 ER’s in 4 of his last 5 starts. Martinez has been outstanding at home this season, posting a .353 average/1.184 OPS and has a career .333 average (9 for 27) with 2 HR’s vs. Gibson in his career.
Please check back later as I’ll make any necessary updates to the lineup due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
Good Luck Tonight!
