DFS – Fantasy Baseball – MLB DraftKings Lineup, Picks & Advice – 7/28/18
Update (4:35 PM) - Had to make some changes as Moreland and Tucker aren't starting. I've updaed the confirmed lineup in the image below and we'll be looking for big nights from the Red Sox, Phillies, and Pirates offense! Good Luck!
Hi Everyone! Our streak of hitting our 50/50’s and GPP’s for 3 consecutive slates unfortunately came to an end last night as we just couldn’t overcome an awful pitching performance by Nick Kingham who got us -9.85 points. We had a few solid players on the offensive side of things in Didi Gregorius (25 points) and Ronald Acuna Jr. (16 points) however, didn’t get much from anyone else and certainly didn’t help that Aaron Judge was injured will now miss about 3-weeks of action due to a wrist injury. Let’s put yesterday behind us and take a look at the 15-game “main slate” that starts at 7:05 PM tonight.
There are a ton of top-tier arms on the mound tonight (Sale, Scherzer, Greinke, Kershaw, Carrasco, Bumgarner), however, were going to go for more value tonight in Seattle’s Wade LeBlanc (P) and Toronto’s Marcus Stroman (P) so we can load up on some of the bigger bats. LeBlanc has been a very solid pitcher for the Mariners this season as the LHP comes into this game with a 6-1 record while posting a 3.44 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. LeBlanc is coming off one of his best starts of the year against the White Sox (7.1 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 10 K) and has shown his ability to shut down some of the better teams in the league as in late June he pitched a gem against the Red Sox (7.2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 9 K’s). LeBlanc’s 7.1 K/9 ratio isn’t anything to write home about, however, I like him tonight as the Angels have really struggled against LHP’s as they rank 30th in MLB in terms of batting average (.214). Stroman comes into this game with a 5.42 ERA, however, the Blue Jays RHP has been a much better pitcher since returning from the DL as in his 6 starts since returning, he has allowed 1 ER or less in 4 of those starts. Stroman doesn’t have a huge K/9 ratio (7.3), however, he has a great match-up in terms of K’s tonight against the Chicago White Sox, who rank 29th in team strikeout rate. Stroman is holding the current White Sox roster to just a .250 average in his career and if he has his slider working tonight, I think he can have a 25-point outing.
On the offensive side of things, we’re going to be stacking the Boston Red Sox as they have one of the higher implied run totals tonight as they will be at Fenway Park going against the RHP Lance Lynn of the Minnesota Twins. Lynn has not been an effective pitcher this season for the Twins as he comes into this game with a 5.23 ERA and 1.66 WHIP and has given up 3 HR’s over his last two starts. Lynn is allowing opponents to hit .302 against him on the road this season and as mainly relies on his fastball, that will be trouble against the Red Sox who are one of the best fastball hitting teams vs. RHP in MLB. For the Sox, we’re going with the big bats of Mitch Moreland (1B), Mookie Betts (OF), and J.D. Martinez (OF). Moreland hasn’t had a great month of July, however, the All-Star is still having a nice season as he is hitting .273 with 12 HR’s and 47 RBI’s. Moreland as an .878 OPS vs. RHP and a .904 OPS at home this season. Betts is one of the best players in all of MLB and comes into this game with a .347 average with 24 HR’s and 53 RBI’s. Betts has posted a .397 average/1.245 OPS at Fenway this season and is 4 for 8 with a HR against Lynn in his career. Martinez is hitting .323 on the season with 31 HR’s and similar to Betts, has been great at Fenway this year, posting a .350 average and 1.169 OPS. 27 of Martinez’s HR’s have come against RHP and he has posted a .324 average vs. RHP on the year.
We have a stack of Pittsburgh players on the roster tonight in Elias Diaz (C), Sean Rodriguez (2B) and David Freese (3B) as they will be up against the New York Mets LHP Jason Vargas. Vargas hasn’t pitched in more than a month due to a calf injury and even when he was pitching, the results weren’t great as he comes into this game with an 8.60 ERA and 1.83 WHIP. Vargas has been giving up HR’s in bunches this season as he also currently is sporting a 2.6 HR/9 ratio. Diaz has been a solid for the Pirates this season, hitting .286 with 7 HR’s and 25 RBI’s and even with Cervelli back, I expect to see Diaz in the lineup tonight as he has posted a .364 average/.618 slugging percentage/1.004 OPS vs. LHP. Rodriguez is hitting just .170 on the season with 5 HR’s and 18 RBI’s but I do like him tonight as he is hitting .333 with 2 HR’s over the past week and has been much better against LHP on the season posting a .256 average and .870 OPS. Freese has started to see more time as of late and is having a decent season as he is hitting .275 with 6 HR’s and 27 RBI’s in 167 total AB’s. Freese is hitting .291 at home on the season and we should see him back in the lineup tonight as in his career against Vargas, he is 6 for 11 (.545 average/1.455 OPS) with a HR.
We’re going right back to Didi Gregorius (SS) in his matchup against the RHP Brad Keller of the Kansas City Royals who although comes into this game with a respectable 3.20 ERA, has started to really struggle as of late as over his last three starts, the right-hander has given up 12 ER’s in 14.1 IP. As we mentioned yesterday, Didi’s price is extremely affordable and he is almost a must play when is going up against an RHP at Yankee Stadium. Didi has 18 HR’s and 59 RBI’s on the season and has posted a solid .578 slugging percentage/.934 OPS at home this season.
Rounding out the team tonight will be Nick Williams (OF) of the Philadelphia Phillies who has a nice matchup at Great American Ball Park against Cincinnati’s Anthony DeSclafani. DeSclafani has really struggled on the season, posting a 5.40 ERA and has been really hurt by the HR ball as he has a 2.6 HR/9 ratio on the season. Williams has become a solid player for the Phillies this season as he is hitting .260 with 14 HR’s and 39 RBI’s and has been on a tear as of late, hitting .393 over the past week with 2 HR’s. DeSclafani is allowing LHB’s to post a .286 average against him on the season while Williams has hit 12 of his 14 HR’s against RHP.
Please check back later as I’ll make any necessary updates to the lineup due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather!
