DFS - Fantasy Baseball - MLB FanDuel Lineup, Picks & Advice - 7/27/18

Hi Everyone! We ended up having to fight an uphill battle yesterday after our pitcher, Nick Kingham, put us in a big hole with a minus 6-point performance and although we did get some nice offensive games from Eugenio Suarez (28.4 points) and Didi Gregorius (34.9 points), we couldn’t overcome Kingham’s worse performance of the year. It was a frustrating day as we switched out Tucker Barnhart at the last second who had a HR and choose Aaron Hicks over Nick Williams which obviously was a big mistake. Let’s put last night behind us and take a look at the 15-game “main slate” that starts at 7:05 PM tonight.

There are a ton of big names on the mound tonight (Sale, Scherzer, Greinke, Kershaw, Carrasco, Bumgarner) however, we’re gong to fade them all and gong with Seattle’s LHP Wade LeBlanc (P). Don’t get me wrong, I love Sale tonight at Fenway Park, however, his $12,800 is just too much high for my liking, especially with the bats I want to get in my lineup. LeBlanc has been a very solid pitcher for the Mariners this season as the LHP comes into this game with a 6-1 record while posting a 3.44 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. LeBlanc is coming off one of his best starts of the year against the White Sox (7.1 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 10 K) and has shown his ability to shut down some of the better teams in the league as in late June he pitched a gem against the Red Sox (7.2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 9 K’s). LeBlanc’s 7.1 K/9 ratio isn’t anything to write home about, however, I like him tonight as the Angels have really struggled against LHP’s as they rank 30th in MLB in terms of batting average (.214).

On the offensive side of things, we’re going to be stacking the Boston Red Sox as they have one of the higher implied run totals tonight as they will be at Fenway Park going against the RHP Lance Lynn of the Minnesota Twins. Lynn has not been an effective pitcher this season for the Twins as he comes into this game with a 5.23 ERA and 1.66 WHIP and has given up 3 HR’s over his last two starts. Lynn is allowing opponents to hit .302 against him on the road this season and as mainly relies on his fastball, that will be trouble against the Red Sox who are one of the best fastball hitting teams vs. RHP in MLB. For the Sox, we’re going with the big bats of Mitch Moreland (C/1B), Mookie Betts (OF), J.D. Martinez (OF) and Andrew Benintendi (OF). Moreland hasn’t had a great month of July, however, the All-Star is still having a nice season as he is hitting .273 with 12 HR’s and 47 RBI’s. Moreland as an .878 OPS vs. RHP and a .904 OPS at home this season. Betts is one of the best players in all of MLB and comes into this game with a .347 average with 24 HR’s and 53 RBI’s. Betts has posted a .397 average/1.245 OPS at Fenway this season and is 4 for 8 with a HR against Lynn in his career. Martinez is hitting .323 on the season with 31 HR’s and similar to Betts, has been great at Fenway this year, posting a .350 average and 1.169 OPS. 27 of Martinez’s HR’s have come against RHP and he has posted a .324 average vs. RHP on the year. Benintendi is hitting .300 on the season with 14 HR’s and 61 RBI’s and has been hot as of late, hitting .350 over the past week. Benintendi has a .330 average at home this season and is hitting .377 so far in the month of July.

We have a couple of Pittsburgh players on the roster tonight in Josh Harrison (2B) and David Freese (3B) as they will be up against the New York Mets LHP Jason Vargas. Vargas hasn’t pitched in more than a month due to a calf injury and even when he was pitching, the results weren’t great as he comes into this game with an 8.60 ERA and 1.83 WHIP. Vargas has been giving up HR’s in bunches this season as he also currently is sporting a 2.6 HR/9 ratio. Harrison is hitting just .254 on the season with 6 HR’s and 28 RBI’s, however, is hitting .364 over the past week with 2 HR’s and has some extra value right now as he is hitting near the top of the lineup with Marte out. Freese has started to see more time as of late and is having a decent season as he is hitting .275 with 6 HR’s and 27 RBI’s in 167 total AB’s. Freese is hitting .291 at home on the season and we should see him back in the lineup tonight as in his career against Vargas, he is 6 for 11 (.545 average/1.455 OPS) with a HR.

We’re going right back to Didi Gregorius (SS) in his matchup against the RHP Brad Keller of the Kansas City Royals who although comes into this game with a respectable 3.20 ERA, has started to really struggle as of late as over his last three starts, the right-hander has given up 12 ER’s in 14.1 IP. As we mentioned yesterday, Didi’s price is extremely affordable and he is almost a must play when is going up against an RHP at Yankee Stadium. Didi has 18 HR’s and 59 RBI’s on the season and has posted a solid .578 slugging percentage/.934 OPS at home this season.

Rounding out the team today will be Kyle Tucker (Utility) of the Houston Astros in his matchup against the RHP Yovani Gallardo of the Texas Rangers. Gallardo is coming off his best start of the season against the Indians, but don’t let that fool you, this is still a pitcher that doesn’t have the same stuff he once did and is coming into this game with a 7.18 ERA and 1.62 WHIP. Gallardo has posted a 10.06 ERA and is allowing opponents to post a .361 average against him on the road this season. Tucker hasn’t performed as the Astros have expected since being called up to the majors, however, we know he has the ability as is their top-prospect and was hitting .304 with 14 HR’s and 14 SB’s in 81 games at Triple-A this season. It’s only a matter of time until he figures things out at the MLB level and as he has some solid power and speed, I think he is worth the risk against Gallardo tonight.

Please check back later as I’ll make any necessary updates to the lineup due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather!

Good Luck.
