DFS – Fantasy Baseball – MLB FanDuel Lineup, Picks & Advice – 8/4/18
Update (6:09 PM) - Had to make some adjustments as Murphy is not playing tonight for the Nationals. I've updated my lineup below and will just have to ensure that Nelson Cruz is getting the start tonight which I can't imagine that he isn't. Good Luck!
Hi Everyone! We ended with 143.10 points last night however, a tough start by Chris Archer (19 Point) prevented us from being able to cash in either our 50/50 or GPP’s last night. Our offense had a decent night as we got solid performances from Rougned Odor (35.4 points), Gregory Polanco (22.7 points), Joey Gallo (22.2 points), and Miguel Sano (19.2 points). Let’s try to start the weekend out on a good note as we look at the 12-game “main” slate tonight that starts at 7:05 PM.
There are some solid pitching matchups if you want to pay up for tonight, however, I really like a lot of the bigger bats tonight so I’m going with value with the Cardinals Austin Gomber (P) in his matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Gomber has been solid in limited action this year as over his 22.1 IP, he has posted a solid 3.22 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 22.1 IP which has been mostly out of the bullpen. Gomber was impressive in his one start this season against the Reds (6.1 IP, 2 ER, 6 K) and fared well agianst Pittsburgh in a 3.0 inning relief performance in which he gave up no hits or runs. Gomber is holding his opponents to a .203 average on the season and does have strikeout stuff as in Triple-A Memphis this season, he held an impressive 10.0 K/9 ratio. Pittsburgh is a tough matchup, how the Cardinals will be facing the hittable Ivan Nova and the Pirates rank just 19th in MLB in terms of batting average vs. LHP (.243).
We’re loading up on bats tonight and it starts with Atlanta’s Freddie Freeman (C/1B) in his solid match-up against the RHP Zack Wheeler of the New York Mets. Zack Wheeler has been solid for the Mets this season as he has posted a 4.11 ERA and 1.29 WHIP, however I’m sure he is not thrilled seeing the Braves tonight as in his one start against them this year, he lasted 5.2 innings while giving up 8 hits and 6 ER’s. Freeman has been incredible this season, posting a .316 average with 18 HR’s and 69 RBI’s. Freeman is hitting .304 over the last week and has been crushing the Mets all season to the tune of a .396 average with 2 HR’s and 12 RBI’s. Freeman has owned Wheeler in his career as he has a .500 average (8 for 16) with 2 HR’s, 6 RBI’s, and 10 BB’s.
We’re stacking a few Washington Nationals in Daniel Murphy (2B) and Bryce Harper (OF) as just as I liked their matchup agianst Anthony DeSclafani yesterday which got postponed, I equally like their matchup against the Reds Matt Harvey tonight. Harvey was pitched well for a stretch for the Reds, but he is starting to look like the guy we saw with the Mets earlier this season as he comes into this game with a 5.13 ERA and has given up 10 ER’s (5 HR’s) over his last 8.2 IP. Murphy looks back to full health and with a nice series agianst the Mets, who he always rakes against, the second-baseman is now hitting .289 on the season with 4 HR’s and 23 RBI’s. Murphy is hitting .375 with 2 HR’s over the past week and has been solid against RHP this season, posting a .294 average/.815 OPS. Murphy has had a bunch success against Harvey, posting a .400 average (4 for 10) with 2 HR’s and 4 RBI’s. Harper has been on a tear as of late, hitting .467 over the past week and comes into this game with three consecutive 2-hit games. Harper has 26 HR’s on the season and although he hasn’t hit Harvey well in his career, he still does have 2 HR’s of the right-hander.
On the right side of the infield, we’re going right back to the Twins Miguel Sano (3B) and Jorge Polanco (SS) as they are still a very good price and have a nice matchup against the RHP Burch Smith of the Kansas City Royals. Smith has struggled with he Royals this season as over 51.0 IP, he has given up 36 ER’s and has posted a 6.00 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. Smith is allowing opponents to post a .819 OPS against him on the year and has really struggled on the road this season, posting a 6.38 ERA. Sano looks like he has put his struggles from the 1st half of the season behind him and has looked solid over his last 4 games, going 6 for 13 (.462 average) with 3 doubles and 3 RBI’s. Sano has great HR power and don’t mind his matchup against an RHP as he is hitting .073 points better against righties on the season. Polanco has yet to hit for a HR this season, but has been solid since returning from his suspension and is hitting .290 on the season with 10 RBI’s. Polanco is a switch-hitter who has been crushing RHP’s this year as he has posted a .359 average and .952 OPS in 64 AB’s.
With the extra money we have from our Minnesota players, we were able to get Jose Ramirez (Utility) in our lineup tonight in his matchup against Felix Pena of the Los Angeles Angels who comes into this game with a 5.23 ERA and 1.23 WHIP on the season. Ramirez is coming off one of the rougher starts this season for any MLB pitcher as he lasted just 0.1 innings while giving up 6 hits and 7 ER’s to the Mariners last week. Ramirez is having an MVP type season so far this year as he comes into this game with a .300 average with 32 HR’s and 79 RBI’s. Ramirez is hitting .381 with 2 HR’s over the past week and posted a 1.103 OPS with 27 of 30 of his HR’s against RHP on the season.
Rounding out the team in the outfield will be Philadelphia’s Nick Williams (OF) and Seattle’s Nelson Cruz (OF). Williams will be up against Miami’s RHP Jose Urena who comes into this game with a 4.40 ERA and 1.23 WHIP. Urena has given up 5 ER’s in two of his last three starts and has struggled more on the road this season, allowing opponents to hit .263 against him. Williams is hitting .261 on the season, however, has been outstanding as of late as he hit .311 in the month of July and is hitting .333 over the past week. Williams has HR power (14 HR’s on the season) and is 1 for 6 lifetime with a HR against Urena in his career. Cruz will be up agianst the Blue Jays Marco Estrada who we all know has a tendency of giving up a bunch of HR’s. Cruz has hit 5 HR’s over the past week and continues to show off his power as he has 28 HR’s and 67 RBI’s on the season. Cruz loves seeing Estrada on the mound as in his career, he is 6 for 13 (.462 average) with 2 HR’s against him.
Please check back later as I’ll make any necessary updates due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
