DFS – Fantasy Baseball – MLB FanDuel Lineup, Picks & Advice – 8/5/18
Hi Everyone! Our strategy of loading up on our offense yesterday blew up in our faces as basically outside of Eddie Rosario (22.2 points), none of our expensive bats in Freddie Freeman, Nelson Cruz, Bryce Harper, and Jose Ramirez scored double-digits. Our value at pitcher Austin Gomber flashed some of this potential however, had a rough 4th inning agianst the Pirates and finished the game with just 15-points. Let’s try to end the week on a good note as we take a look at the 1:05 “Main” slate which features 9 games today!
On the mound, we’re going to be going with a mid-tier pitcher today in Cleveland’s Shane Bieber (P) in a decent matchup against the Los Angeles Angels. I’m going with this matchup mostly due to the fact that if you take a look at the Angels lineup this afternoon, it doesn’t look very strong as both Trout and Upton won’t be starting today. Bieber has a 4.73 ERA on the season and 1.42 WHIP and although he hasn’t pitched well as of late, I do like how he throughs a bunch of strikes and has a decent 8.9 K/9 ratio. Bieber and the Indians should be heavy favorites today as they will be at home, going agianst Deck McGuire, and as Bieber has 40+ point upside, I think he is the play today.
As I’ve already mentioned, the Cleveland Indians have one of the better match-ups today against Deck McGuire who comes into this game with a 6.12 ERA and 1.60 WHIP on the season. McGuire has really struggled this season and has been crushed by the HR ball as he comes into this game with a 2.9 HR/9 ratio. McGuire is allowing his opponents to post a .583 slugging percentage and .949 OPS on the season. For the Indians, we’re going to be rostering Jose Ramirez (3B), Francisco Lindor (SS), Melky Cabrera (OF) and Leonys Martin (OF). Ramirez is putting up MVP like numbers as he comes into this game with a .300 average, 32 HR’s, and 79 RBI’s. Ramirez has a .666 slugging percentage and 1.096 OPS vs. RHP which included 27 of his 32 HR’s. Lindor hasn’t been that strong since the All-Star break, however, he is still hitting .291 on the season with 27 HR’s and 67 RBI’s. Lindor has been great at home this season, hitting .309 with 14 HR’s and we’ve basically seen all his power from the left-side of the plate, as 22 of his 27 HR’s have come against RHP. Cabrera is cheap bat and decent “punt” play in this matchup and had a very good month of July as in limited action (33 AB’s), he posed a .364 average and .915 OPS. Martin has been outstanding since joining his new club, and although he is hitting at the bottom of the order, I like him today as he has posted a .417 average with 2 HR’s over the past week.
The Cubs have the highest implied run total today as the wind is blowing out at Wrigley and we’re going to make sure we have some of the action as we’re rostering Wilson Contreras (C/1B), Javier Baez (2B), and Albert Almora Jr. (Utility). The Cubs will be up agianst the LHP Joey Lucchesi who although has pitched decent this season, is coming off a tough start agianst Arizona (4.1 IP, 5 ER, 3 HR) and seems to be a bit under the weather as he has his start yesterday pushed back due to a stomach bug. Contreras is hitting .278 with 9 HR’s and 40 RBI’s and has been solid at Wrigley Field this season as he has posted a .304 average with 5 HR’s. Baez has become a star in Chicago and rightfully so as the 2nd baseman has posted a .299 average on the season with 23 HR’s and 84 RBI’s. Baez is hitting .391 over the past week and has a .296 average/.900 OPS vs. LHP on the season. Almora Jr. has been solid in limited action this season as he currently is hitting .299 on the season with 4 HR’s and comes in with some extra value this afternoon as he will be leading off for the Cubs.
Rounding out the team will be the Phillies Nick Williams (OF) who I’m still upset that I replaced out of my lineup yesterday! Williams has a decent matchup against Miami’s Dan Straily who had a 4.41 ERA and 1.40 WHIP on the season. Straily has struggled as of late as over his last two starts, he has allowed 16 hits, 8 ER’s, and 4 HR’s over 9.1 IP. Williams continues to hit the ball hard for the Phillies as he comes into this game with 15 HR’s and 43 RBI’s on the season. Williams has been hitting well over .300 since the beginning of July and is hitting .316 over the past week.
