DFS – Fantasy Baseball – MLB DraftKings Lineup, Picks & Advice – 8/8/18
Update (6:01 PM) - I've decided to pay down and take the chance with Brett Kennedy who has been lights out at the Triple-A level this season so we can keep our big bats. We're focused most on the Boston offense tonight but have some solid players from TOR, NYY, and CLE going for us. Image is updated below. Good Luck!
Hi Everyone! We didn’t make the same adjustment in our DraftKings lineup yesterday that we did in FanDuel which paid off well, however, we still easily hit our 50/50’s yesterday despite lackluster efforts from our pitchers Andrew Heaney (11.25 points) and Chase Anderson (5.1 points). Our LAA stack led the way for us yesterday as we got huge production from Shohei Ohtani (30 points), Justin Upton (21 points), Kole Calhoun (14 points), and Andrelton Simmons (12 points). Let’s keep this winning going as we take a look at the 9-game “main” slate that starts at 7:05 PM tonight.
On the mound tonight, we’re going to be rostering Jose Quintana (P) of the Cubs and Trevor Richards (P) of the Miami Marlins. Quintana has a decent matchup against the Kansas City Royals as the Cubs enter tonight’s game as big favorites. Quintana has been solid this season for the Cubs, posting a 4.12 ERA and 1.38 WHIP on the season. Quintana has given up 2 or less ER’s in 4 of his last 5 starts and has been great on the road this season posting a 3.76 ERA. Kansas City does a decent job of making contact, however, they do rank just 20th in MLB in batting average vs. LHP (.241). Quintana has seen a bunch of the Royals in his career when he was with the White Sox and over the past three seasons, has a 3.73 ERA over 12 starts. Richards continues to be a bright spot in the Miami rotation as he comes into this game with a 3.92 ERA and has given up just 2 ER’s over his last 23.2 IP. Richards has an impressive 8.7 K/9 ratio on the season and has been great against LHB’s, as he is holding them to just a .184 average on the season. Richards will be up against the Cardinals tonight who rank just 15th in MLB in terms of batting average vs. RHP (.249) and outside of Jose Martinez, haven’t had much success against the right-hander in a small simple. Richards has 15 K’s over his last 11 IP as he can generate swing and misses with his great change-up and I think he has some good value tonight at this price in a pitcher’s park.
On the offensive end, we’re going to go north of the boarder and target a bunch of players in the Red Sox/Toronto game tonight.
Starting off with the Red Sox, we’re going to be stacking Mitch Moreland (C/1B), J.D. Martinez (OF), and Mookie Betts (OF) in their match up against the RHP Mike Hauschild of the Toronto Blue Jays. Hauschild was outstanding in 6 innings of relief against Seattle (4 H, 0 ER) last week, however, I’m not buying that he can keep up that level of performance as he comes into this game with a career 6.43 ERA over 14.0 IP. Hauschild has mostly been in Triple-A Fresno this season and has posted unimpressive numbers there as he has a 4.88 ERA and has given up 113 hits in 97.2 IP. Moreland had a tough month of July for the Red Sox, however, is still having a productive season, hitting 14 HR’s and 55 RBI’s. Moreland has an .855 OPS vs. RHP and came through big for the Red Sox, hitting a 3-run HR in the 10th inning of last night’s game. Martinez has been incredible for the Sox, hitting .328 on the season with 34 HR’s and 97 RBI’s on the year. Martinez is hitting .409 over the past week and has a .327 average against Toronto on the season. Betts comes into this game with a .341 average with 26 HR’s and 58 RBI’s and similar to Martinez has been on fire as of late, hitting .400 over the past week.
With the money spend on Severino and the Red Sox, we are going with some of the more affordable bats of the Blue Jays in Russell Martin (C), Devon Travis (2B), Yangervis Solarte (3B), and Kevin Pillar (OF) in their matchup against the LHP Brian Johnson of the Red Sox. Johnson has been a productive fill-in for the banged up Red Sox rotation as he has posted a 3.74 ERA and 1.42 WHIP on the season, however, as he showed against the Yankees in his last outing, he can give up the HR ball. Martin is hitting .455 (5-11) over the past week and is coming off his best offensive month of the season in July. Martin has 10 HR’s on the season and although he doesn’t have a great batting average this season or against Johnson, he does have a HR off the Boston LHP. Travis came through for us last night as a punt play and I like him against tonight especially if he is hitting out of the 2-spot again. Travis is hitting .250 on the season with 8 HR’s and 33 RBI’s and has been solid over the past week as he has posted a .364 average with 2 HR’s and 9 RBI’s. Solarte is only hitting .236 on the season, but has seen the bat heat up over the past week as he has posted a .333 average over the time span and had a nice game yesterday, going 2-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 BB. Solarte has 17 HR’s on the season and has shown better power as an RHB this season (.723 OPS). Pillar comes in at good value tonight as the does have HR pop in his bat and is 4 for 7 with two extra base hits vs. Johnson in his career.
Rounding out the team tonight will be another value pick in Tampa Bay’s Willy Adames (SS) who will be up against Baltimore’s RHP Andrew Cashner who is coming off an awful start against the Rangers (1.2 IP, 7 H, 10 ER) and comes into this game with a 5.05 ERA and 1.56 WHIP. Adames is hitting just .218 on the season, but the rookie is starting to figure things out as over the past week he is hitting .333 on the season with 2 HR’s. Adames has great HR power and I like his matchup tonight as Cashner is allowing RHB’s to post a .292 average against and is allowing his opponents to hit .322 when he is on the road.
Please check back later as I’ll make any necessary updates due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
