Update (5:59 PM) - Hi everyone! Made some adjustments. Sticking w/ Severino for his price point and exploting the TOR/NYY/BOS offenses in their solid matchups. Image is updated below! Good Luck!
Hi Everyone! It was a great night for us last night on FanDuel as our team scored 213.2 points and cashed big in both the 50/50’s and GPP’s. We made some last-minute changes to get Max Scherzer (40 points) in there and although he didn’t have his best stuff, it put us on some value plays in Devon Travis (28.4 points) and Phillip Ervin (28.7 points) who had big nights. Our LAA stack of Kole Calhoun (18.9 points), Justin Upton (28.4 points), and Shohei Ohtani (40.9 points) had a huge night and we got some decent production from our Reds stack against the Mets. Let’s keep this winning going as we take a look at the 9-game “main” slate that starts at 7:05 PM tonight.
On the mound, we’re going to go with the obvious play in Luis Severino (P) who will be most likely highly owned tonight as he is very affordable and has a great matchup against the strikeout prone Chicago White Sox. Severino has really struggled as of late, as over his past four games he has given up 20 ER’s in 20 IP, which is the main reason of the price drop, however, Severino is still one of the best pitchers in the AL and comes in with a 3.08 ERA and 1.11 WHIP on the season. Severino has great life on his fastball and has had a great success this season in the DFS world as he currently has a 10.0 K/9 ratio. We especially like the match-up tonight against the White Sox as they currently come into this game ranked 22nd in team batting average vs. RHP (.241) and 30th in team strikeout rate (9.63 K/game). Severino is holding opponents to just a .230 average on the season and as the Yankees can’t afford to drop games to the below average teams in the AL, I think Severino bounces back tonight with a strong outing.
On the offensive end, we’re going to go north of the boarder and target a bunch of players in the Red Sox/Toronto game tonight.
Starting off with the Red Sox, we’re going to be stacking Mitch Moreland (C/1B), J.D. Martinez (OF), Mookie Betts (OF), and Jackie Bradley Jr (OF) in their match up against the RHP Mike Hauschild of the Toronto Blue Jays. Hauschild was outstanding in 6 innings of relief against Seattle (4 H, 0 ER) last week, however, I’m not buying that he can keep up that level of performance as he comes into this game with a career 6.43 ERA over 14.0 IP. Hauschild has mostly been in Triple-A Fresno this season and has posted unimpressive numbers there as he has a 4.88 ERA and has given up 113 hits in 97.2 IP. Moreland had a tough month of July for the Red Sox, however, is still having a productive season, hitting 14 HR’s and 55 RBI’s. Moreland has an .855 OPS vs. RHP and came through big for the Red Sox, hitting a 3-run HR in the 10th inning of last night’s game. Martinez has been incredible for the Sox, hitting .328 on the season with 34 HR’s and 97 RBI’s on the year. Martinez is hitting .409 over the past week and has a .327 average against Toronto on the season. Betts comes into this game with a .341 average with 26 HR’s and 58 RBI’s and similar to Martinez has been on fire as of late, hitting .400 over the past week. Bradley Jr. is more known for his defensive mastery in center field, however, he is coming off his best offensive month of the season in July in which he posted a .801 OPS. Bradley Jr. has HR-upside and has posted a .775 OPS vs. RHP on the season.
With the money spend on Severino and the Red Sox, we are going with some of the more affordable bats of the Blue Jays in Devon Travis (2B), Yangervis Solarte (3B), and Kevin Pillar (OF) in their matchup against the LHP Brian Johnson of the Red Sox. Johnson has been a productive fill-in for the banged up Red Sox rotation as he has posted a 3.74 ERA and 1.42 WHIP on the season, however, as he showed against the Yankees in his last outing, he can give up the HR ball. Travis came through for us last night as a punt play and I like him against tonight especially if he is hitting out of the 2-spot again. Travis is hitting .250 on the season with 8 HR’s and 33 RBI’s and has been solid over the past week as he has posted a .364 average with 2 HR’s and 9 RBI’s. Solarte is only hitting .236 on the season, but has seen the bat heat up over the past week as he has posted a .333 average over the time span and had a nice game yesterday, going 2-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 BB. Solarte has 17 HR’s on the season and has shown better power as an RHB this season (.723 OPS). Pillar comes in at good value tonight as the does have HR pop in his bat and is 4 for 7 with two extra base hits vs. Johnson in his career.
Rounding out the team tonight will be another value pick in Tampa Bay’s Willy Adames (SS) who will be up against Baltimore’s RHP Andrew Cashner who is coming off an awful start against the Rangers (1.2 IP, 7 H, 10 ER) and comes into this game with a 5.05 ERA and 1.56 WHIP. Adames is hitting just .218 on the season, but the rookie is starting to figure things out as over the past week he is hitting .333 on the season with 2 HR’s. Adames has great HR power and I like his matchup tonight as Cashner is allowing RHB’s to post a .292 average against and is allowing his opponents to hit .322 when he is on the road.
Please check back later as I’ll make any necessary updates due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
