DFS – Fantasy Baseball – MLB FanDuel Lineup, Picks & Advice – 8/10/18
Update (4:41 PM) - Hi Everyone! Sticking with the orginal lineup today! Image is updated below. Let's make it 4 striagt cashing nights! Good Luck.
Hi Everyone! We keep our winning streak going last night as our 168.4-point performance last night saw us cash in both our 50/50’s and GPP’s for the 3rd consecutive night. We were spot on going with J.A. Happ on the mound as both Verlander and Paxton weren’t worth the high prices and Happ more than reached value with his 46-point performance. On the offensive side, we got steady production as six of our players hit double-figures last night, led by Aaron Hicks (25.2 points), Josh Bell (24.9 points), and Giancarlo Stanton (18.7 points). Let’s try to get this winning streak going as we take a look at the 7:05 “main” slate tonight that features 14 games.
On the mound, I think there are two clear cut options in Boston’s Nathan Eovaldi and Cleveland’s Shane Bieber, however, as I like each matchup equally, I’m going to go with Shane Bieber (P) as has a bit more value with his lower price tag. Shane Bieber comes into this game with just a 4.58 ERA and 1.42 WHIP, however, he has been a pretty consistent pitcher for the Indians this year as he has lasted at least 5.2 IP, in 9 of his 10 starts and if you remove that one bad start he had agianst Pittsburgh, he is averaging 35.6 FanDuel points per outing. Bieber couldn’t ask for a better matchup tonight as he will be up against the Chicago White Sox who have lost three straight games and averaged just 2 runs/game in their recent series against the Yankees. Bieber has an impressive 9.2 K/9 ratio on the season and as the White Sox rank just 22nd in terms of batting average vs. RHP (.242) and rank dead last in team strikeout rate (9.65/game), I think Bieber can get us 40+ tonight.
There are a lot of decent offensive lines to target tonight, and I’m going to start off with the Boston Red Sox, who have a decent matchup agianst the RHP Dylan Bundy of the Baltimore Orioles. Bundy has looked a bit better as of late, however, he does tend to give up HR’s (2.0 HR/9 ratio) and has really struggled agianst LHB’s allowing them to post a .297 average/.500 slugging %/.864 OPS. Bundy’s numbers agianst the Red Sox aren’t awful, however, in his last outing at home agianst the Red Sox he gave up 3 HR’s (Betts, Benintendi, Martinez) before being saved by a rain out. As I just don’t have the salary to spend up on Betts and Martinez, I’m going to get some more affordable LHB’s in Rafael Devers (3B) and Andrew Benintendi (OF) in my lineup tonight. Devers is hitting just .248 on the season but has shown his power upside as he has 16 HR’s and 54 RBI’s on the season. Devers came back from the DL in great fashion on Wednesday as for a min price on FanDuel, he went 2 for 4 with a double, HR, and 2 RBI’s. Devers has hit 13 of his HR’s vs. RHP’s on the season and has a career .300 average with a HR agianst Bundy. Benintendi’s name is at the top of many of the leaderboards as the Red Sox outfielder comes into this game with a .304 average, 14 HR’s, 67 RBI’s, and 20 SB’s on the season. Benintendi is hitting .391 over the past week and .414 so far in the month of August. Benintendi has a .332 average/.964 OPS vs. RHP’s on the year and is hitting .348 (8 for 23) agianst Bundy in his career.
For our other mini-stack of the night, we’re going to spend up for Arizona’s Paul Goldschmidt (C/1B) and David Peralta (OF) as they will be at the very hitters-friendly Great American Ball Part taking on the RHP Andrew DeSclafani of the Cincinnati Reds. DeSclafani is coming off a solid start agianst the Washington Nationals however, it’s still be a struggle for the RHP as he comes into this game with a 4.98 ERA on the season. DeSclafani has posted a 5.65 ERA at home this season and in those games, he is allowing opponents to hit .287 against him. DeSclafani has really struggled against LHB’s as he is allowing them to post a .985 OPS agianst him as he has allowed 11 HR’s in just 115 AB’s vs. LHB. Goldschmidt is starting to heat up agianst as he is hitting .304 over the past week and although he is not an LHB, he has owned DeSclafani as he is 6 for 8 with 2 doubles and HR against the RHP. Goldschmidt has posted a .321 average/1.044 OPS in away games this season and is hitting .333 against the Reds this season. Peralta is having a monster season for the Diamondbacks as he is hitting .306 with 19 HR’s and 58 RBI’s and is coming off a monster series agianst the Phillies as he went 10 for 16 with a double, triple, 2 HR’s and 4 RBI’s. Peralta has a .333 average/.964 OPS vs. RHP’s on the season and is 3 for 6 lifetime agianst DeSclafani.
Completing our infield tonight, we’re going with some value picks in the Cardinals Kelton Wong (2B) and Minnesota’s Jorge Polanco (SS). Wong has a nice matchup agianst the struggling Burch Smith of the Royals who has a 6.41 ERA & 1.53 WHIP on the season and has given up 11 ER’s (3 HR’s) in his last two starts. Wong is hitting just .229 on the season with 7 HR’s and 25 RBI’s, however, has been on a tear over the past 6 weeks as he hit .309 in the month of July and is currently hitting .412 in the month of August. Wong has posted a .719 OPS vs. RHP on the season and has been much better during “night” games, hitting .266. Polanco will be up against the Tigers Jordan Zimmerman who has comes in with a 4.31 ERA and has given up 14 ER’s (8 HR’s) over his last 4 starts (21 IP). Polanco has been a productive player for the Twins since returning from his suspension and is hitting .280 on the season with a HR and 13 RBI’s. Polanco is a switch-hitter who is much better from the left-side of the plate as he has posted a .346 average/.936 OPS vs. RHP on the season and we love the value he has hitting out of 3-hole for the Twins.
With the money we saved with some of our infielders, we’re going right back to Yankee Stadium tonight and paying up for Giancarlo Stanton (OF) in his matchup agianst the LHP Mike Minor of the Texas Rangers. Minor has given up 2 or less ER’s in his last three starts, however, he still has been very hittable this season as he comes into this game posting a 4.53 ERA. Stanton is starting to show why he got that huge contract in the offseason as he is now hitting .279 on the season with 28 HR’s and 74 RBI’s. Stanton makes some of the hardest contact in baseball as evident by his 121.7 MPH HR he blasted into the seats last night and has been on a slight tear as of late, hitting 3 HR’s over the past week. Stanton has posted .349 average/.698 slugging percentage/1.111 OPS vs. LHP on the season and he is almost a must play tonight as he is 7 for 21 lifetime agianst Minor with 4 HR’s.
Rounding out the team tonight will be a HR-value play in Ji-Man Choi (Utility) in his matchup against the RHP Marco Estrada of the Toronto Blue Jays. Estrada pitched well in his last outing agianst Seattle, however, this is a guy that still has posted a 4.65 ERA and is allowing opponents to post a .784 OPS against him. Estrada always has the ability to give up a bunch of HR’s if he leaving his change-up up in the zone and comes into this matchup with a 1.4 HR/9 ratio. Choi has been getting regular playing time since being acquired by the Rays and although he is hitting just .225 with 4 HR’s and 13 RBI’s, he has some nice value hitting in the middle of the Rays order and has collected a HR and 4 RBI’s over his last three games. Choi is 1 for 2 with a HR against Estrada in his career and as the Rays will be playing at the hitters friendly Rodgers Centre, I think he has some nice value tonight.
Please check back later as I’ll make any necessary updates due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
