DFS – Fantasy Baseball – MLB DraftKings Lineup, Picks & Advice – 8/11/18
Update (5:54 PM) - Hi Everyone! We had to make some changes to the lineup as Schoop isn't getting the start tonight. I decided to go cheaper at pitcher and take a big risk with Yefry Ramirez against the Red Sox as I'm not loading up on Red Sox bats tonight and he actually ptiched pretty well agianst the Red Sox a few starts ago. With the salary saved, we were able to upgrade to get a few Phillies in our lineup to go with Justin Turner who will be up agianst a LHP at Coors. Good Luck tonight!
Hi Everyone! We couldn’t keep our GPP streak with our DraftKings going last night however, it was still a solid night as our 86.8-point performance allowed us to continue to cash in our 50/50 contests. We got a nice start by Shane Bieber who put up an impressive 28 points, however, we were really hurt by Clay Holmes awful start agianst the Giants which saw him get -13.2 points. Luckily for our offense, we stacked some of the Red Sox last night and the performances by Mookie Betts (29 points) and Andrew Benintendi (24 points) put us over the cash line in our 50/50. Let’s keep this great week going as we take a look at tonight’s 10-game slate that starts at 7:05 pm.
On the mound tonight, we’re going to be paying up for the Indians Trevor Bauer (P) and hope we continue to get value out of Oakland’s Edwin Jackson (P). Bauer has been lights out this season for the Indians as he comes into this game with a 2.25 ERA and 1.12 WHIP and has allowed 2 or less ER’s in 9 of his last 10 starts. Bauer has been outstanding against the White Sox this season as in his 2 starts, he has posted a 1.84 ERA while striking out 20 hitters in 14.2 IP. Bauer has a 11.6 K/9 ratio and could be in for a big strikeout night as the White Sox rank dead last in MLB in team strikeout rate. Bauer is always a great player to roster as he has no problem to pitch between 110-120 pitchers in a game and I think he has 35-40 point upside tonight. Edwin Jackson has been an incredible find for the A’s this season as the veteran RHP has posted an impressive 2.87 ERA and 1.06 WHIP over 8 starts this season. Jackson is not a pitcher that is going to get us a ton of K’s as he has just a 6.7 K/9 ratio on the season however, we like how he has been able to limit opponents on base as he is holding opponents to just a .209 average. Jackson will be facing an Angels team that will be without Mike Trout and although the A’s have a tough matchup against Tyler Skaggs, I think Jackson has nice value at this price and hopefully can get us 15-20 points.
On the offense end, we’ll obviously have to find some value as we’re rostering Bauer and the first place I’m looking is the Houston Astros in their matchup agianst the LHP Wade LeBlanc of the Seattle Mariners. LeBlanc has been a solid pitcher this season for the Mariners, however, if there is one team he doesn’t like seeing at the plate, it’s the Astros. In four appearances against the Astros (2 starts) he has posted a 10.22 ERA in 12.1 IP and is allowing the Astros to post a .407 average against him. For the Astros, we’re going to be rostering Evan Gattis (C/1B), Marwin Gonzalez (2B), Carlos Correa (SS), and Josh Reddick (OF). Gattis hasn’t had a great 2nd half the season so far and is hitting just .214 in the month of August, however, there is no denying that the catcher/DH still has some great power as he has posted 21 HR’s and 67 RBI’s on the season. Gattis an excellent track history agianst LeBlanc as he is 6 for 11 agianst the left-hander with 2 doubles, 3 HR’s and 6 RBI’s. Gonzalez has had a tough season, but has been on a tear as of late, as he is hitting .455 with 2 HR’s over the past week. The switch-hitting Gonzalez has posted a better average against LHP on the season and is 2 for 3 against LeBlanc with both hits being HR’s. Correa is back from the DL and although he is hitting just .265 on the season, he does have 13 HR’s and 49 RBI’s and is still one of the top shortstops in MLB. Correa has posted a .297 average/.856 OPS vs. LHP on the season and is 2 for 5 lifetime with a double and 2 RBI’s vs. LeBlanc. Reddick is an LHB but has actually fared great against LHP this season as in 94 AB’s, he has posted a .298 average/.585 slugging percentage/.925 OPS. Reddick has great numbers against LeBlanc as he is 5 for 10 agianst him with a double and HR.
Rounding out our outfield tonight will be Oakland’s Stephen Piscotty (OF) who will be up agianst Tyler Skaggs of the Angels who is coming off the DL from a recent hip injury. Skaggs has been solid this season for the Angels, however, was rocked in his recent start agianst the Rays as he lasted just 3.1 innings, while giving up 10 ER’s on 8 hits. Piscotty has been having a solid first season with the A’s as he has posted 15 HR’s and 52 RBI’s on the year. Piscotty has been much better hitter on the road this season, posting a .267 average/.854 OPS and has fared well agianst Skaggs in his career, as he is 2 for 5 against the left-hander with a double.
On the left-side of the infield tonight, we’re going to be going with Cleveland’s Yonder Alonso (1B) and Milwaukee’s Jonathan Schoop (2B). Alonso will be up agianst the White Sox James Shields who has had an up and down season and currently is posting a 4.50 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. Shields has had trouble with the HR ball as of late as over his last three starts, he has allowed 6 HR’s. Alonso has been a great source of power of the Indians this season as he has 20 HR’s and 66 RBI’s on the year. Alonso in a solid spot tonight as he should be hitting in the middle of the powerful Cleveland lineup and in his career, is hitting .333 (4 for 12) agianst Shields with 3 HR’s. Schoop is now hitting in the powerful Milwaukee lineup and although I generally only like playing him agianst LHP, the matchup is solid tonight agianst Julio Teheran of the Braves who has been giving up a bunch of HR’s to RHB’s on the season (14 HR’s). Schoop has solid power as he has 17 HR’s on the year and is coming off a great month of July in which we saw him post a .360 average/.700 slugging percentage/1.056 OPS.
Rounding out the team tonight, we’re are going to take the Mets Todd Frazier (3B) in his matchup against Miami’s Dan Straily. Straily is coming off a decent start against Philadelphia, however, has been hit hard as of late as over his last three starts he has given up 10 ER’s (4 HR’s) in 14.2 IP. Straily has always struggled a bit with HR’s and this year has been no different as he has a 1.6 HR/9 ratio. Frazier hasn’t hit for a great average this season, but still has some solid HR pop (10 HR’s) and has been seeing the ball well this past week, posting a .313 average. Frazier has been much better vs. RHP on the season and has posted a respectable .721 OPS vs. RHP.
Please check back later as I’ll make any necessary updates to the lineup due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
