Updated (5:54 PM) - I decided to go with Verlander so I made a bunch of adjustments. I'm hoping to find value with the DET, BAL, CHW lineups and expect a solid night from Verlander and Barria. Image is updated below and Good Luck!
Hi Everyone! We didn’t get off to the start we wanted to this week as although we had a respectable 126.05 points, it fell short of cashing in either our GPP’s and or 50/50’s. Our pitching was extremely disappointing, especially Luis Severino, who ended up getting us just 8.2 points. Our offense was solid last night as our we had 6 players with double figures in points, led by Ronald Acuna Jr. (24 points), Jedd Gyorko (19 points), Omar Narvaez (16 points), and Paul DeJong (14 points). Let’s shake off that rough Monday and take a look at the 14-game “Featured” slate tonight.
On the mound tonight, we’re going to be rostering the Angels Jamie Barria (P) and the Blue Jays Ryan Borucki (P). Barria has been solid in his first year with the Angels as the RHP comes into this game with an impressive 3.59 ERA and 1.21 WHIP on the season. Barria has allowed 3 or less ER’s in 7 of his last 8 starts and has a great matchup agianst the San Diego Padres tonight who come into this game ranked 28th in team batting average (.236) and 27th in team strikeout rate. Barria is not a big strikeout pitcher which hurts his value a bit (6.6 K/9 ratio), however, he is holding opponents to just a .244 average on the season and as the Angels are favorites in this game, I think he can the win in this one and get around 20 DK points. Borucki has been incredible for the Blue Jays this season and comes into this game with an impressive 2.81 ERA and 1.38 WHIP over 8 starts this season. Borucki’s only difficult starts have both come agianst the Red Sox, which shouldn’t be surprising, as in his other six starts this season, he has only allowed 7 ER’s in 40.0 IP. Borucki has a nice matchup against the very beatable Kansas City Royals who rank dead last in MLB in runs scored and over the last three games, are hitting just .195 as a team. Borucki doesn’t pile up the K’s as he has just a 6.0 K/9 ratio, however, if he has shown the ability to pitch deep into the games and if he can go at least 6 innings and get about 5 K’s, I think he can also get us about 20 DK points tonight.
On the offensive side tonight, we have a few stacks going, which begins with the Arizona Diamondbacks Paul Goldschmidt (1B) and A.J. Pollock (OF) and their matchup agianst RHP Yovani Gallardo of the Texas Rangers. Gallardo actually had a nice month of July for the Rangers, however, this is the same pitcher that still comes into this matchup with a 6.11 ERA and 1.55 WHIP. Gallardo is allowing opponents to post a .812 OPS against him on the season and has allowed 7 ER’s (3 HR’s) over his last two starts. Goldschmidt comes into this game with a .283 average, 26 HR’s and 64 RBI’s and has been on a tear the last week, posting a .440 average with 2 HR’s. Goldschmidt is 6 for 12 vs. Gallardo in his career and is posting a .332 average/1.075 OPS on the road this season. Pollock had a solid 2 for 4 performance last night with a double and RBI and is now hitting .284 on the season with 15 HR’s, 46 RBI’s, and 10 SB. Pollock has posted a .290 average vs. RHP’s on the season and has a .429 career average against Gallardo in 7 AB’s.
We have a mini-stack of Cleveland Indians tonight as they have a nice matchup in Cincinnati against the RHP Sal Romano of the Reds. Romano has pitched better as of late, however, he still has a 4.94 ERA and 1.39 WHIP on the season and has given up a bunch of HR’s as he has a 1.5 HR/9 ratio. Romano has really struggled with LHB’s on the season allowing them to post a .294 average and .887 OPS agianst him. Lindor has the highest upside of any shortstop on the slate tonight and comes into this game with a .294 average with 29 HR’s, 74 RBI’s, and 19 SB. For the Indians, we’re going to be rostering Francisco Lindor (SS) and Yandy Diaz (Utility). Lindor has just a .267 average vs. RHP on the season, however, most of his power has come from that side of the plate as he has posted 24 of his 29 HR’s vs. RHP. Yandy Diaz was recently called up with Edwin Encarnacion going on the DL and he hasn’t disappointed as in his last two games, he has gone 4 for 6 with a double and 3 RBI’s. Diaz is an incredible 11 for 20 in his limited time at the MLB level this season and as if he gets the start tonight, should be in a good spot agianst Romano for an affordable price.
For our three mini-stack of the night, we’re going to be going with the Tigers James McCann (C), Niko Goodrum (2B) and Nicholas Castellanos (OF) in their matchup agianst the RHP Lucas Giolito. Giolito has shown some flashes this season of his potential, however, the overall product has been disappointing as the RHP comes into this game with a 6.23 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. Giolito has struggled with the Tigers this season, posting an 8.18 ERA in his two starts against them and has really been hurt by the HR ball throughout his career as he currently has a career HR/9 ratio of 1.7. It hasn’t been a great season for James McCann as he is hitting just .229 with 6 HR’s and 31 RBI’s however, he makes a decent “punt” play at this price as he has HR power and is hitting .353 over the past week. McCann has hit much better agianst RHP on the season and has fared well agianst the White Sox as has posted a .296 average against them on the season. Goodrum is hitting just .231 on the season, but does have some nice pop in his bat as he has collected 12 HR’s this season. Goodrum has 2 HR’s and 5 RBI’s over his last 4 games and we like his opportunity to hit for power tonight agianst Giolito who is allowing LHP to post a .858 OPS against him. Castellanos has been on a tear as of late as over the past week, he is hitting .429 which includes an impressive 5 for 5 performance last night with a HR and 5 RBI’s. Castellanos has multiple HR’s against Giolito in his career, and I like him tonight as he is hitting .419 against the White Sox on the season.
Rounding out the team tonight will be probably the hottest hitter in MLB right now in the Braves Ronald Acuna Jr. (OF) in his matchup agianst the Marlins RHP Trevor Richards. Richards has been solid for the Marlins in his rookie campaign as he comes into this game with a 3.98 ERA and 1.37 WHIP, he is allowing RHB’s to post a .305 average/.865 OPS on the season and allowed 2 HR’s in his last start to the Cardinals. Acuna Jr. led off both games of the double header yesterday with HR’s and has posted a .371 average with 6 HR’s and 11 RBI’s over the past week. The top-prospect has a .304 average/.938 OPS vs. RHP on the season and is hitting .353 so far in the month of August.
Please check back later as I’ll make any necessary updates due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
