Update (6:05 PM) - Hi Everyone! Made some changes to the lineup and decided to include some Cincinnati bats and took more of a chance at pitcher so I could afford Lindor! Image is updated below! Good Luck!
Hi Everyone! We couldn’t bring over the success we had at FanDuel over to our DraftKings lineup last night as our 94.95-point performance wasn’t enough to cash in either our 50/50’s and GPP’s. We ended up spending up on pitching last night and although we had solid outings from Verlander (27.9 points) and Barria (23.05 points), our value offense didn’t live up to the billing as Tim Anderson (12 points) and Renato Nunez (12 points) were our only players to reach double digits. Let’s get back on the winning track tonight as we look at the 10-game “featured” slate that starts at 7:05 PM tonight.
On the mound tonight, we’re going to be going for value with Atlanta’s Kevin Gausman (P) and Baltimore’s Dylan Bundy (P). Gausman has a nice matchup agianst the Miami Marlins as the Marlins come in ranked 23rd in team average (.240) and 29th in runs scored. Gausman comes into this game with a 4.27 ERA and 1.35 WHIP on the season however, is coming off one of his better starts of the season against the talented Brewers offense as he went 8 innings, giving up just 1 ER while striking out 8. Gausman is pretty inconsistent, however, he does have some solid stuff and has been able to generate strikeouts over his career as he 8.2 K/9 career ratio. Gausman has only allowed 6 ER’s over his last 3 starts (20.0 IP) and although the current Miami roster has hit him well, I think Gausman has a ton of value at this price and can get us 25+ points if he brings his A-stuff tonight. Dylan Bundy has had an up and down season this year and comes into this game with a 4.70 ERA and 1.31 WHIP. Bundy is a frustrating pitcher as he certainly has shown the talented to be the top of the end rotation pitcher, however, at the same time, we’ve seen him get absolutely shelled on multiple occasions this season. I’m going with Bundy tonight as the matchup calls for it against the Mets who rank 27th in team batting average and 20th in team strikeout rate. Bundy has an impressive 9.4 K/9 ratio, and has had great success against the current Mets roster, as he has held them to just a .079 average (3 for 38). If Bundy can limit damage done by the Mets LHB’s, I think he could have a nice night.
On the offensive side of the ball tonight, we’re going to be mostly stacking the Cleveland Indians and the Atlanta Braves in their great matchups.
The Cleveland Indians have one of the higher implied run totals tonight for good reason as their playing in the very hitters friendly Great American Ball Park and will be going up agianst the Reds RHP Robert Stephenson who in his one start on the season last week against the Mets, lasted just 4.0 innings while giving up 3 ER’s on 3 hits and 5 walks. Stevenson has a career 5.16 ERA over 34 appearances (20 starts) in the big leagues while allowing his opponents to have a .833 OPS against him. For the Indians tonight, we’re going to be rostering Jason Kipnis (2B), Jose Ramirez (3B), Melky Cabrera (OF), and Yonder Alonso (1B). It’s been a tough year for Kipnis however, he is starting to turn things around as although he is hitting just .226 on the season with 11 HR’s and 49 RBI’s, he has been swinging a hot bat as of late, posting a .320 average over the past week. Kipnis has fared well agianst Cincinnati this season, posting a .353 average (6 for 17). Ramirez is putting up another MVP type season as after collecting another three hits last night, Ramirez is now hitting .305 on the season with 36 HR’s, 89 RBI’s, and 27 SB’s. Ramirez is hitting .455 over the past week and has a .435 average against Cincinnati on the year. Cabrera has been a nice addition to the regular Indians lineup as of late as he is hitting .348 over the past week and is 7 for 12 with 1 HR and 6 RBI’s over his last three games. The switch-hitting Cabrera has been better over his career as an LHB and we like his value especially as he was hitting out of the 5-hole last night. Alonso is only hitting .249 on the season but has shown his solid power as he has 20 HR’s and 70 RBI’s on the year. Alonso is starting to heat up agianst after a slow start to the month as he has now collected hits in 5 of his last 6 games.
As we are already hoping for some run support for Kevin Gausman, we’re going to be going with a stack of Atlanta Braves as they will be up agianst the RHP Jose Urena of the Miami Marlins. Urena has been hit hard as of late (10 ER’s; 3 HR’s over last 10.1 IP) and he doesn’t like facing the Braves as in his three starts against this season, he has posted a 6.75 ERA. Urena has posted a 5.28 ERA on the road this year and gets hit hard by LHB’s as they have a .276 average/.790 OPS agianst him on the season. For the Braves, we’re going to be rostering Tyler Flowers (C), Nick Markakis (OF), and Ender Inciarte (OF). Freeman is having an MVP type season for the Braves as he comes into this game with a .320 average, 20 HR’s and 75 RBI’s. It should be Tyler Fowlers turn behind the plate for the Braves tonight and I like stacking him as he is hitting .375 with a HR over the past week. Fowlers is only 2 for 8 lifetime agianst Urena however, does have a HR agianst him. Markakis is hitting .364 so far in the month of August and has also had success against Urena, posting a .318 average in 22 career AB’s. Inciarte is hitting just .252 on the season but loves facing the Marlins as he has posted a .423 average (22 for 52) against Miami on the season. Inciarte has 23 SB’s on the season and like most LHB’s of the Braves, has seen Urena well as he has posted a .350 average/1.031 OPS in 20 career AB’s.
Similar to our FanDuel lineup, we only had $3,500 left at the SS position and based on who was available, I’m going to go with Boston’s Brock Holt (SS) who should be getting the start against the RHP Vince Velasquez. Velasquez has been solid this season, however, does give up a lot of hard contact to LHB’s and is allowing them to post a .781 OPS against him on the season. Holt played the hero last night for the Red Sox, crushing the game winning HR off Tommy Hunter in the 8th inning in the Red Sox 2-1 victory. Holt is hitting .364 over the past week with 2 HR’s and is 1 for 2 with a double against Velasquez in his career.
Please check back later as I’ll make any necessary updates to the lineup due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
