DFS – Fantasy Baseball – MLB DraftKings Lineup, Picks & Advice – 8/20/18
Update (5:59 PM) - Hi Everyone! I made some changes to the lineup. I decided to go against Cole just as he was too expensive. He has pitched well agianst Seattle but also hasn't had that "big" game in any of his three starts and as the Mariners can do a good job not striking out, I decided to go cheaper at pitcher with Wheeler (in a good matchup vs. SF) and Estrada (great matchup agianst Baltimore). This allowed use to pay for some good MIL, MIN, and OAK bats. Good Luck!
Hi Everyone! It’s been a tough few days not being able to give it a go when it comes to Daily Fantasy, but we’re back and ready to get back our winning! Let’s take a look at what we have going for tonight’s 7:05 pm “Featured” slate that features 10 games.
On the mound tonight, we’re going to be going with Houston’s Gerrit Cole (P) and the Pirates Chris Archer (P). Cole has been absolutely incredible this season for the Astros as he comes into this matchup with a 2.71 ERA and 0.98 WHIP. Cole is coming off an outstanding game agianst the Rockies (6.0 IP, 1 ER, 12 K’s) and has been holding opponents to just a .188 average on the season (.179 vs. LHB; .209 vs. RHB). Cole is striking out opponents at a career rate this season as he comes in with an impressive 12.3 K/9 and has looked good against Seattle this season as over three starts, he has a 2.57 ERA and has 18 K’s through 21 IP. Houston will be a favorite to win this one and as Cole easily has 50+ potential, he is too good to pass at this price tonight. Archer still is finding his footing with his new ball club as although he does have a 4.49 ERA and 1.42 WHIP, he has given up 9 ER’s in his 14.1 IP. What makes Archer an interesting choice for the pitcher position tonight is the fact that he can certainly put up a big point total and any moment thanks to his impressive 10.0 K/9 ratio. The Braves are a tough matchup however, the Pirates are slight favorites tonight and for under $8,000, I think Archer is a solid option tonight.
With the amount we’re spending on pitching today, we need to find some value with our position players and it starts with the Blue Jays Kendrys Morales (1B) and Randal Grichuk (OF) in his match-up agianst the RHP Andrew Cashner of the Baltimore Orioles. Cashner has pitched well against the Blue Jays however, this is still a pitcher that isn’t that great and comes into this game with a 4.71 ERA and 1.49 WHIP. Cashner is allowing opponents to hit .275 against him on the season and has been worse on the road allowing opponents to post a .304 average. Morales is hitting just .248 on the season however, still has shown that he has some pop in the bat as he has 14 HR’s and 41 RBI’s on the season. Morales is hitting .353 over the past week and is 4 for 7 with a HR against Cashner in his career. Grichuk is hitting just .227 on the season but has shown his solid power since getting an everyday role as he comes into this game with 17 HR’s and 44 RBI’s. Grichuk is hitting .394 against the Orioles on the season and is 3 for 11 with 2 HR’s against Cashner in his career.
Staying with he Tor/Bal matchup, we’re going to be going with the Orioles Tim Beckham (3B) in his matchup against the Blue Jays RHP Marco Estrada. Estrada comes into this game with a 4.87 ERA and 1.27 WHIP however, has struggled in his last two starts as he has allowed 9 ER’s (4 HR’s) over his past two starts. Beckham is hitting just .223 on the season, but does have 8 HR’s and has shown in year’s past that he has decent power in his bat. Beckham has struggled against Estrada in his career, but for this price and upside, I’m willing to take a chance with him tonight.
We are stacking a few of the Minnesota Twins in Logan Forsythe (2B) and Max Kepler (OF) in their match-up agianst the RHP Lucas Giolito of the Chicago White Sox. Giolito has not lived up to the high expectations that the White Sox had for him this season as he comes into this game with a 6.15 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. Giolito has allowed 10 ER’s over his last two starts and has been hurt by HR’s this season, allowing a 1.4 HR/9 ratio. Giolito has struggled a bit against LHP on the season allowing opponents to post a .276 average and .862 OPS. Forsythe has cooled off a bit after his torrid start with the Twins however is still has posted a .361 average/.844 OPS since being traded by the Dodgers. Forsythe is hitting .280 vs. RHB’s on the season and has a .361 average so far in the month of August. Kepler isn’t going to hit for a good average but there is no denying his power as the slugging OF has 16 HR’s and 45 RBI’s on the season. Kepler has recorded hits in 5 of his last 6 games and is 3 for 6 agianst Giolito in his career.
Behind the backstop, we’re going to go with Milwaukee’s Erik Kratz (C) in his match-up agianst the RHP Homer Bailey of the Cincinnati Reds. It’s been a struggle for Bailey this season as the veteran RHP comes into this game with a 6.33 ERA and a 1.63 WHIP. Bailey has given up 10 ER’s on 21 hits over the last 8.2 IP and is allowing his opponents to post a .308 average against him. Bailey allowed 5 ER’s in just 5.0 IP in his only start against the Brewers this season and has really been hurt by the HR ball as he currently has a 1.9 HR/9 ratio. Kratz has been filling in for Manny Pina who has missed his last few games due to a shoulder injury and I don’t mind him as a “punt” play tonight as he is hitting .244 with 4 HR’s and 13 RBI’s on the season. Kratz has seen Bailey before, and has hits in 5 of his last 6 games he has started.
Completing our infield today will be the Mets Amed Rosario (SS) who will be up against the LHP Derek Holland of the San Francisco Giants. Holland has pitched well this season, posting a 3.83 ERA and 1.31 WHIP, however, has struggled agianst RHB’s this season allowing them to post a .268 average and .818 OPS. Rosario has started to look like the top-prospect he was in the Mets system last season as the SS has posted a .394 average with 2 HR’s and 9 RBI’s. Rosario has solid speed as he has 14 SB’s on the season and has hit LHP’s better in both terms of batting average and OPS on the season.
Rounding out the team, we’re going to be going with the Dodgers Kike Hernandez (OF) as he will be up agianst the LHP Austin Gomber of the St. Louis Cardinals. Gomber has pitched well for the Cardinals this season as he has posted a 2.89 ERA and 1.29 WHIP, however, Kike Hernandez has been on a tear as of late, posting a .353 average with a HR over the past week. Hernandez has always shown great power against LHP’s and comes into this game with 18 HR’s on the season.
