DFS – Fantasy Baseball – MLB FanDuel Lineup, Picks & Advice – 8/20/18
Update (5:59 PM) - Hi Everyone! I made some changes to the lineup. I decided to go against Cole just as he was too expensive. He has pitched well agianst Seattle but also hasn't had that "big" game in any of his three starts and as the Mariners can do a good job not striking out, I decided to go cheaper at pitcher with Wheeler who had a nice matchup against the Giants. With the money saved, we were able to load up on a solid Milwuakee stack and get some good matchups with the MIN and OAK hitters. Image is updated below! Good Luck!
Hi Everyone! It’s been a tough few days not being able to give it a go when it comes to Daily Fantasy, but we’re back and ready to get back our winning! Let’s take a look at what we have going for tonight’s 7:05 pm “Main” slate that features 10 games.
On the mound tonight, we’re going to spend up for Houston’s Gerrit Cole (P) in his match-up agianst the Seattle Mariners. Cole has been absolutely incredible this season for the Astros as he comes into this matchup with a 2.71 ERA and 0.98 WHIP. Cole is coming off an outstanding game agianst the Rockies (6.0 IP, 1 ER, 12 K’s) and has been holding opponents to just a .188 average on the season (.179 vs. LHB; .209 vs. RHB). Cole is striking out opponents at a career rate this season as he comes in with an impressive 12.3 K/9 and has looked good against Seattle this season as over three starts, he has a 2.57 ERA and has 18 K’s through 21 IP. Houston will be a favorite to win this one and as Cole easily has 50+ potential, he is too good to pass at this price tonight.
On the offensive end, we’re going to start with a Milwaukee stack of Travis Shaw (2B), Mike Moustakas (3B), and Christian Yelich (OF) in their match-up agianst the RHP Homer Bailey of the Cincinnati Reds. It’s been a struggle for Bailey this season as the veteran RHP comes into this game with a 6.33 ERA and a 1.63 WHIP. Bailey has given up 10 ER’s on 21 hits over the last 8.2 IP and is allowing his opponents to post a .308 average against him. Bailey allowed 5 ER’s in just 5.0 IP in his only start against the Brewers this season and has really been hurt by the HR ball as he currently has a 1.9 HR/9 ratio. Travis Shaw isn’t hitting for a high average this season, however, he has shown that he still has some solid power as he has 24 HR’s and 69 RBI’s on the season. Shaw has a .538 slugging percentage and .890 OPS vs. RHP and does have a HR agianst Bailey in his career. Moustakas has posted a .313 average over the past week and likes his new ballpark in Miller Park as he has posted a .320 average/.680 slugging percentage/1.013 OPS. Moustakas has a .812 OPS vs. RHP and is hitting .308 in the month of August. Yelich is hitting .310 on the season with 19 HR’s and 61 RBI’s and has been great against Cincinnati this season, posting a .375 average. Yelich is 3 for 9 with a double and 3 BB’s against Bailey in his career.
We are stacking a few of the Minnesota Twins in Joe Mauer (C/1B) and Max Kepler (OF) in their match-up agianst the RHP Lucas Giolito of the Chicago White Sox. Giolito has not lived up to the high expectations that the White Sox had for him this season as he comes into this game with a 6.15 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. Giolito has allowed 10 ER’s over his last two starts and has been hurt by HR’s this season, allowing a 1.4 HR/9 ratio. Giolito has struggled a bit against LHP on the season allowing opponents to post a .276 average and .862 OPS. Mauer is hitting .276 on the season with 5 HR’s and 38 RBI’s and has been really on a role as of late as he has posted a .381 average and 2 HR’s over the past week. Mauer is 2 for 5 with a double against Giolito in his career. Kepler isn’t going to hit for a good average but there is no denying his power as the slugging OF has 16 HR’s and 45 RBI’s on the season. Kepler has recorded hits in 5 of his last 6 games and is 3 for 6 agianst Giolito in his career.
Completing our infield today will be the Mets Amed Rosario (SS) who will be up against the LHP Derek Holland of the San Francisco Giants. Holland has pitched well this season, posting a 3.83 ERA and 1.31 WHIP, however, has struggled agianst RHB’s this season allowing them to post a .268 average and .818 OPS. Rosario has started to look like the top-prospect he was in the Mets system last season as the SS has posted a .394 average with 2 HR’s and 9 RBI’s. Rosario has solid speed as he has 14 SB’s on the season and has hit LHP’s better in both terms of batting average and OPS on the season.
Rounding out the team today, we’ve gone with some value picks in the Kansas City Royals Brett Phillips (OF) and Tampa Bay’s Jake Bauers (OF). Phillips will be up agianst the various pitchers of the Tampa Bay Rays which will start off with Hunter Wood who comes into this game with a 4.10 ERA and 1.67 WHIP. Phillips was one of the main pieces in the Mike Moustakas trade and has put up decent numbers in the minors this season, as he had 7 triples, 6 HR’s and 11 SB’s in 71 games for Triple-A Colorado Springs. Bauers is one of the top-prospects in the Tampa Bay system and is up against Jorge Lopez who was the other part of the Mike Moustakas trade. Lopez didn’t look good in his first start for the Royals has he lasted just 4.2 IP while giving up 6 ER’s on 8 hits (1 HR). It’s been a rough month of August for Bauers, however, there is no denying the talent as he rookie currently has 9 HR’s and 34 RBI’s on the season. Bauers has a .826 OPS at home this season and I’m hoping that he can start getting back on the upswing tonight.
