DFS - Fantasy Baseball - MLB DraftKings Lineup, Picks & Advice - 8/22/18

Hi Everyone! It was a tough night last night as we didn’t cash in either or 50/50’s or GPP’s after a lack-luster 80.5-point effort. It was a disappointing night as Michael Kopech (10.1 points) looked solid in his first two innings but a rain delay took him out of the game early and Junior Guerra (13.4 points) had some tough luck errors that really hurt his outing. Our offense didn’t do much outside of Travis Shaw (14 points) and Khris Davis (21 points), no one else on the squad reached double-digits. Let’s try to get back in the win column as we take a look at the 10-game “main” slate that starts at 7:05 PM tonight.

On the mound tonight, we’re going to be going with Colorado’s Jon Gray (P) and Pittsburgh’s Trevor Williams (P). Gray will at home at Coors Field tonight, however, his match-up against the Padres is too good to pass up. Gray comes into this game with a 4.76 ERA and 1.29 WHIP and has looked much more like the RHP the Rockies we’re expecting over the last month after being recalled from Triple-A. Since the All-Star break, Gray has posted an impressive 2.83 ERA while holding opponents to just a .180 batting average. Gray always has a high ceiling as he does a solid job generating strikeouts as he comes into this game with a career best 10.5 K/9 ratio. San Diego ranks 29th in terms of batting average (.234) vs. RHP and 28th in team strikeout rate (9.40 K/game). Gray has been solid agianst San Diego this season as over three starts he has posted a 3.50 ERA and has struck out 24 Padres over 18.0 IP. Williams comes into this game with a 3.53 ERA and 1.22 WHIP and has been one of the more impressive pitchers as of late, as in his 5 starts since the All-Star break, the RHP has posted a 0.87 ERA. Williams doesn’t have as much of an upside as Gray as he doesn’t generate a ton of strikeouts, however, has been hovering around 20 DraftKings points in 5 of his last 6 starts. Williams is holding his opponents to just a .239 average on the season and as he has fared well in his limited exposure to the current Braves lineup in the past, I think he some decent value at this price tonight.

On the offensive end, we’re going to be stacking the Arizona Diamondbacks Alex Avila (C), Eduardo Escobar (3B) and David Peralta (OF) in their matchup against the Angels RHP Odrisamer Despaigne. Despaigne hasn’t been anything special in his 12 appearances this season (2 starts) as he comes into this game with a 6.29 ERA and 1.56 WHIP. Despaigne gave up 5 runs on 7 hits in his first start for the Angels last week at Texas and has really struggled against LHB’s this season, allowing them to post a .341 average. Avila hasn’t started over the last 4 games, but I have a feeling that he’ll get his chance behind the backstop tonight in this solid matchup. It’s been a struggle for Avila this season as he is hitting just .175, however, he does still have 6 HR’s in limited action this season and is coming off the month of July in which he posted a .375 average/1.223 OPS in 24 AB’s.  Escobar is having a nice season as he comes into this game with a .281 average with 18 HR’s and 75 RBI’s. Escobar has a .311 average since joining the Diamondbacks and the switch-hitter has been much better from the left-side of the plate as he has posted a .905 OPS with 15 of his 18 HR’s. Peralta has been one of the best players in the baseball as of late as he is hitting .422 with 8 HR’s so far in the month of August. Peralta is hitting .305 with 24 HR’s on the season and has been great at home this season, posting a .355 average/1.040 OPS.

At first base tonight, we’re going to be going with Mitch Moreland (C/1B) of the Boston Red Sox in his match-up against the Indians Carlos Carrasco. Carrasco has been pitching really well as of late, however, has never fared well agianst the Red Sox as over his last three starts against Boston, Carrasco has posted a 10.13 ERA as he has allowed 15 ER’s and 21 hits in just 13.1 IP. Moreland comes into this game hitting .254 on the season with 14 HR’s and 64 RBI’s. Moreland has posted a .814 vs. RHP on the season and has fared well against Carrasco in his career as in 14 AB’s, he has posted a .357 average/1.509 OPS with 3 HR’s.

We’re going to be paying up for some of our remaining outfielders tonight, so we decided to grab some value by stacking the Mets Amed Rosario (SS) and Jeff McNeil (Utility) in their matchup agianst the Giants RHP Casey Kelly. Kelly comes into this game with just a 1.69 ERA over three appearances this season however, was lucky to avoid major damage in his start against Cincinnati last week as although he gave up just 1 ER over 4.1 IP, he did allow 9 hits and a walk. Casey has a career 5.70 ERA and 1.71 WHIP over his career and is allowing opponents to hit .317 against him in 41 AB’s this season. Rosario is starting to look more like the offensive player the Mets expected when they called him up last season as over the past week, he is hitting .333 with a HR and 7 RBI’s. Rosario has some decent speed as he has 14 SB’s on the season and as he has been leading off for the Mets, I like his value tonight. McNeil has been a nice find for the Mets as on the season he is hitting .326 with 2 HR’s and 9 RBI’s. McNeil has posted a .448 average over the past week and has hits in 9 of his last 10 games.

Rounding out the team tonight in the outfield will be the Tigers Nicholas Castellanos (OF) and the Rockies Carlos Gonzalez (OF). Castellanos will be up against the LHP Jon Laster who despite pitcher well in his last game, has really struggled since the All-Star break as in his 6 starts he has posted an 8.16 ERA while allowing opponents to hit .357 against him. Castellanos has been one of MLB’s best hitters agianst LHP on the season, posting a .397 average/.621 slugging percentage/1.065 OPS and has dominated Lester in career as in 9 career AB’s he has 3 HR’s and 8 RBI’s off the left-hander. Gonzalez will be up agianst the RHP Jakob Nix of the Padres who although had a good first MLB start agianst Phillies, really struggled against the Diamondbacks in his last start as he failed to get out of the 1st innings while allowing 5 ER’s. Nix has really struggled agianst LHB’s in his limited experience this season as in 19 AB’s, he is allowing LHB’s to post a .368 average and 1.033 OPS. Gonzalez is hitting .285 on the season with 14 HR’s and 52 RBI’s and has been outstanding at home this season, posting a .325 average/1.002 OPS. Gonzalez has 10 of his 14 HR’s vs. RHP and has hits in 8 of his last 10 games.

Please check back later as I’ll make any necessary updates due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.

Good luck!
