DFS – Fantasy Baseball – MLB FanDuel Lineup, Picks & Advice – 8/23/18
Update (5:34 PM) - Hi Everyone! I'm keeping with the original lineup as everything has been confirmed! Image is updated below! Good Luck!
Hi Everyone! It was a tough night for us last night as after a solid start to the night, we didn’t get much production as the night went on and after a few late HR’s by some highly owned players (Baez & Rizzo) in the Cubs game, we couldn’t pull a victory in our 50/50’s and GPP’s for FanDuel. Jon Gray (38 points) was solid on the mound however, we didn’t get much offense outside of our Mets players in Dominic Smith (18.7 points) and Jeff McNeil (15.5 points). We have a small 4-game “main” slate tonight and let’s take a look at who we’re targeting to get us back in the win column.
On the mound tonight, we’re going to be going with Tampa Bay’s Tyler Glasnow (P) in his match-up agianst the Kansas City Royals. Since being traded to the Rays in the Chris Archer deal, Glasnow has been starting for the Rays and as he through 94-pitches in his last outing agianst the Red Sox, I don’t think there is any worry about a pitch-count for the talented young RHP. Glasnow has been solid since joining the Tampa Bay rotation as he has posted a 3.38 ERA over 18.2 IP. Glasnow has solid strikeout stuff as he has posted a 11.6 K/9 ratio and it was on full display in his recent start against the Baltimore as he struck out 9 Orioles on just 61 pitches. Kansas City is one of the worst offensive teams in MLB as they rank just 24th in team batting average vs. RHP (.243) and they’ve been striking out a bunch more as of last as over their last three games, they’ve averaged 11.3 K/game.
With the wind blowing out at Wrigley Field tonight and the Athletics having a great matchup, our offense tonight will solely consist of Cubs, Reds, and Athletics.
For the Cubs, we are going to be paying up for some of their bigger bats as we have Anthony Rizzo (C/1B), Daniel Murphy (2B), and Javier Baez (SS) in their matchup agianst the RHP Anthony DeSclafani of the Reds. DeSclafani comes into this game with a 4.12 ERA and 1.18 WHIP and although he has pitched much better as of late, this is still a very hittable pitcher who comes into this game with 1.8 HR/9 ratio. DeSclafani gave up 2 HR’s in his earlier outing agianst the Cubs this season and has been hit hard by LHB’s as he is allowing them to post a .552 Slugging %/.858 OPS. Rizzo has had a disappointing overall season, however, is starting to heat up as he is hitting .300 in the month of August and .304 with 2 HR’s over the past week. Rizzo has a .311 average at home this season and has hit HR’s in two consecutive games. Murphy was recently acquired by the Cubs and has had a great 2nd half of the season as since the All-Star Break, he has posted a .343 average/.900 OPS. Murphy batted lead off last night for the Cubs which gives him more DFS value and is also 6 for 11 (.545 average) with 3 doubles and a HR against DeSclafani in his career. Baez has crushed Cincinnati this season to the tune of a .372 average (16 for 45) and as he has 20 of his 26 HR’s vs. RHP on the season, I think Baez is in a good spot to display some of his power tonight.
We don’t mind going with some of the Cincinnati Reds tonight as Wrigley is a great park to hit HR’s at when the wind is blowing out and I don’t hate their matchup agianst the LHP Cole Hamels of the Cubs. Hamels has pitched very well since being traded to the Cubs however, this is still the same LHP that had a 1.8 HR/9 ratio with the Rangers earlier this season. Hamels has given up 22 HR’s to RHB’s on the season and is allowing opponents to post a .756 OPS against him on the season. For the Reds, we’re going to be going with some power RHB’s in Eugenio Suarez (3B) and Phillip Ervin (OF). Suarez comes into this game with a .297 average with 28 HR’s and 92 RBI’s on the season and is hitting .316 over the past week. Suarez has a .359 average (14 for 39) against the Cubs this season and has destroyed LHP this season to the tune of a .365 average/.702 slugging percentage/1.174 OPS. Ervin has taken advantage of more playing time as of late and comes into this game with a .292 average with 4 HR’s in 120 AB’s this season. Ervin is hitting .333 over the past week (7 for 21 w/ 2 HR’s) and has posted a .375 average/1.137 OPS vs. LHP on the season.
Rounding out the team tonight will be Khris Davis (OF), Stephen Piscotty (OF), and Matt Olsen (Utility) of the Oakland Athletics in their matchup agianst Minnesota’s RHP, Kohl Stewart. Stewart has really struggled as he has posted a 7.71 ERA and 2.29 WHIP in his two starts this season. Stewart is allowing his opponents to post a .367 average/.920 OPS and has been equally agianst both RHB’s (.400 average in 10 AB’s) and LHB’s (.350 average in 20 AB’s). Davis has clearly established himself as one of the best power hitters in baseball as he comes into this game with 38 HR’s and 102 RBI’s on the season. Davis is hitting .409 over the past week and has 9 HR’s so far in the month of August. Piscotty comes into this game with a .375 average over the past week and has displayed some nice power this season as he has posted 16 HR’s and 55 RBI’s on the season. Piscotty has hit RHB’s better this season and has a .862 OPS on the road this season. Olsen has been struggling a bit as of late, but there is no denying his power as he comes into this game with 23 HR’s on the season. Olsen has a .804 OPS vs. RHP on the season and has posted a .791 OPS on the road this season.
Please check back later as we’ll make any necessary updates to the lineups due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
