DFS – Fantasy Baseball – MLB DraftKings Lineup, Picks & Advice – 8/24/18
Update (5:28 PM) - If you watched my video eariler, you know I wasn't completely sold on my initial lineup as I hoped we could find some value to make some adjustments. I think we did that as I love the value that both Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Blake Swihart bring to the lineup which allowed us to pay up for one pitcher tonight and go with a solid Nationals stack. The image is updated below and as always, good luck!
Hi Everyone! It was a disappointing night for us on DraftKings last night as although we did have a decent 128.35 point performance, it did end up falling just short in both our 50/50’s and GPP’s. We got a solid night from our pitchers in Tyler Glasnow (16.45 points) and Sean Newcomb (29.9), points, however, unlike our FanDuel lineup, our offensive couldn’t really get it done as our only player that had a big game was Javier Baez (31 points). Let’s get back on track as we look at the 14-game “Featured” slate that starts at 7:05 PM.
On the mound tonight, we’re going to go with value and go with the RHP Rich Hill (P) of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the RHP Alex Cobb (P) of the Baltimore Orioles. Hill comes into this game with a solid 3.73 ERA and 1.27 WHIP on the season and has a solid match-up against the San Diego Padres tonight. Hill has been hurt by HR’s as of late, however, still has pitched well since the All-Star Break, posting a 2.48 ERA while holding opponents to a .195 average. San Diego is solid match-up for Hill as the Padres come into this game ranked just 22nd in team batting average (.237 average) vs. LHP and 28th in team strikeout rate (9.39 K/9 ratio). Hill struggled a bit against San Diego in a previous outing this season, however, his 9.6 K/9 ratio is too good to pass up in this match-up. Cobb has really struggled in his first season with the Orioles, however, Cobb has started to look like the guy that has a career 3.75 ERA as of late as over his last four starts, he has given up 5 ER’s over 29.0 IP. Cobb is allowing opponents to post a .292 average against him on the season, however, over his 4 starts in August, he is holding opponents to just a .219 average while sporting a solid 1.55 ERA. Cobb is not a huge strikeout pitcher as he comes in with just a 6.0 K/9 ratio however, the Yankees do rank just 23rd in team strikeout rate. Cobb is coming off solid performances against the Yankees, Red Sox, and the Indians and as he has averaged about 22 points/start in August, I like him for his value tonight.
On the offensive end, we’re going to start off with a solid stack of Washington Nationals in Ryan Zimmerman (C/1B), and Anthony Rendon (3B). in their great matchup agianst the LHP Jason Vargas of the New York Mets. Vargas has pitched better as of late, however, still comes into this match-up with a 7.67 ERA and 1.72 WHIP. Vargas is allowing opponents to post a .325 average/.963 OPS on the season and has been really hurt by the HR ball as he currently has a 2.1 HR/9 ratio. Vargas has really struggled against RHB’s on the season as he is allowing them to post a .335 average/.604 slugging percentage/.992 OPS. Zimmerman is hitting just .260 on the season, however, does have an impressive 12 HR’s in just 56 games played in this season. Zimmerman is hitting .333 with 6 HR’s in the month of August and has posted a .400 average/.745 slugging percentage/1.222 OPS in 55 AB’s vs. LHP. Rendon comes into this game with a .292 average with 16 HR’s and 62 RBI’s and has loved facing the Mets this season as he has posted a .429 average with 3 HR’s in 35 AB’s. Rendon has also had success agianst LHP’s this season as he has posted a .305 average/.932 OPS against them.
We also will be doing a small stack of Philadelphia Phillies in Cesar Hernandez (2B) and Asdrubal Cabrera (SS) in their matchup agianst the LHP Ryan Borucki of the Toronto Blue Jays. Borucki has been productive for the Blue Jays this season as he has posted a 4.27 ERA on the season, however, it’s been a struggle for the LHP as of late as he has allowed 14 ER’s in his last 9.2 IP. Borucki is allowing opponents to post a .290 average on the season and has a 7.13 ERA so far in the month of August. Hernandez has struggled a bit since the All-Star break however, still is hitting a respectable .257 with 11 HR’s, 40 RBI’s and 16 SB’s. Hernandez has a .274 average against LHP on the season and has collected hits in 6 of his last 7 games. Cabrera hasn’t been that great since joining the Phillies as he is hitting just .198 since being inquired, however, he makes decent play for an average price as he comes into this game with 20 HR’s and 67 RBI’s on the season. Cabrera has posted a .283 average/.825 OPS on the road this season and is hitting .308 against Toronto on the season.
We’re going to be “punting” Jonathan Lucroy (C) of the Oakland Athletics in his matchup against the RHP Jake Odorizzi of the Minnesota Twins. Odorizzi hasn’t been anything special this season, posting a 4.55 ERA and 1.39 WHIP on the season and has posted a 5.12 ERA at home this season. Odorizzi is allowing RHB’s to post a .256 average/.750 OPS on the season and hasn’t made it past the 5th inning in any of his last five starts. Lucroy hasn’t been great this season, posting just a .238 average with 2 HR’s however, he does have 40 RBI’s on the year and you have to like his chances to get some opportunities to drive some runners in with Oakland match-up tonight.
In the outfield tonight, we are going to be going with Arizona’s David Peralta (OF), Avisail Garcia (OF), and Carlos Gonzalez (OF). Peralta will be up against the RHP Erasmo Ramirez who although has pitched well over his last two games, still has a 5.49 ERA on the season and has given up 7 HR’s in 19.2 IP this season. Ramirez has really struggled against LHB’s this season, allowing them to post a .341 average/.795 slugging percentage/1.170 OPS. Peralta has been one of the better players in all of baseball this season, posting a .306 average with 25 HR’s and 70 RBI’s. Peralta is hitting .538 over the past week and .426 so far in the month of August. Garcia will be up against the RHP Michael Fulmer who will be making his first start since mid-July due to an Oblique injury. Fulmer hasn’t been great this season as he comes in to this game with a 4.50 ERA and 1.32 WHIP on the season and is allowing RHB’s to post a .738 average against him. Garcia is hitting just .231 on the season but he is decent play at this price as he has 14 HR’s on the season and now hitting 3rd in the White Sox lineup with Abreu out. Gonzalez will be up against the RHP Miles Mikolas of the St. Louis Cardinals. Mikolas has been impressive this season, posting a 2.80 ERA and 1.04 WHIP, however, the RHP has struggled a bit more as of late as he has allowed 5 ER’s (3 HR’s) over his last two starts. Mikolas has struggled a bunch more against LHB’s on the season (.272 average) and has been worse on the road this season. Gonzalez has had a nice season for the Rockies, posting a .285 average with 14 HR’s and 53 RBI’s and has been a monster at home, posting a .323 average and .990 OPS.
Please check back later as I’ll make any necessary updates to the lineups due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
