Update (6:15 PM) - Hi Everyone! Our DK lineup is confirmed. Remember, today's lineup is more of a GPP based on some requests. Image is updated below and Good Luck!
Hi Everyone! It was a low-scoring night overall last night however, our 81.35 – point performance didn’t get the job done as we fell just short in our 50/50’s and didn’t really come close in our GPP’s. It was a minefield last night at the pitching position (unless you were crazy and went with David Hess) as Mashario Tanaka (14.55 points) has an average performance in a great match-up and Jon Gray (2.8 points) got rocked by the Angels. Our offense had some decent performances by George Springer (15 points), Jose Altuve (14 points), and Juan Soto (12 points) however, it couldn’t overcome Gray’s poor outing and some below average offense performances by Luke Voit (3 points) and Todd Frazier (0 points). Let’s take a look at tonight’s 15-game “Featured” slate as I’m actually going to focus on doing more of a GPP lineup today!
As I mentioned, I’m going a GPP lineup today and with all those great pitchers on the mound tonight (Scherzer, DeGrom, Nola, Carrasco, Flaherty…etc.), I’m going in the complete opposite direction and taking my chances with the Yankees Lance Lynn (P) and Boston’s Brian Johnson (P). Lynn hasn’t pitched well in his last two starts and comes into this game with a 4.84 ERA and 1.57 WHIP, however, I’m ok ignoring those facts as he is going up against the Chicago White Sox tonight. In his three starts against the White Sox this season, Lynn has posted a 2.95 ERA and has 24 K’s in 18.1 inning pitched. Lynn has always been able to generate K’s and he has been good in that department in his 5 games since joining the Yankees as he has posted a 11.4 K/9 ratio. The White Sox rank dead last in MLB in team strikeout rate (9.63 K/game) and as he put up a monster 36.7-point performance agianst the White Sox earlier this month, I think he is a great value play today at his price. Johnson hasn’t been great but he also hasn’t been awful as he comes into this game against the Miami Marlins with a 4.12 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. Fenway isn’t going to do him any favors tonight as it’s going to be a hitter’s park tonight with the hot weather and wind blowing out, however, I don’t hate the matchup as the Marlins rank 25th in MLB in batting average vs. LHP (.233) and are dead last when it comes to slugging percentage vs. LHP (.346). Johnson has shown he can generate swing and misses with his strong curveball as he currently has an 8.1 K/9 ratio and had 11 K’s in early August against the Yankees. The current Miami roster is just 4 for 16 agianst Johnson in his career with 5 K’s and although there is obviously risk here, I think Johnson could get us 20-points tonight.
With the money we’re saving with going with Johnson, we’re going to be staying at Fenway and paying up for some of Boston’s bigger bats in Ian Kinsler (2B), Mookie Betts (OF) and J.D. Martinez (OF) in their match-up agianst Jose Urena. Urena comes into this game with a 4.50 ERA on the season and has struggled a bit in August posting a 5.12 ERA. The Red Sox match-up well against RHP’s who rely on their fastball and pitchers making their first appearance at Fenway Park, generally don’t fare well. Kinsler hasn’t been outstanding since joining the Red Sox as he is hitting just .237 with his new team, however, like him as a value option at 2B as he still can hit the ball hard and has 13 HR’s on the season. Kinsler has been much better RHP on the season (.768 OPS w/ 12 of his 13 HR’s) and also has posted a respectable .262 average at Fenway Park this season. Betts, similar to the Red Sox, has been slumping over the last week, however, I see him getting back on track at home in this series as on the year, he has a .347 average and 1.077 OPS at Fenway Park. Betts comes into this game with a .336 overall average with 27 HR’s, 65 RBI’s & 26 SB’s and has crushed RHP this season to the tune of a .330 average. J.D. Martinez comes into this game with a .337 average with 38 HR’s and 110 RBI’s and even with the Red Sox offense not being at their best as of late, Martinez still has been tearing the cover off the ball as he has a .347 average over the past week. Martinez has a 1.138 OPS at Fenway Park on the season and has crushed RHP as he has a .689 slugging percentage/1.101 OPS against right-handers on the season.
To save some money, and really make this a GPP lineup, I’m going with a couple of “punt” plays with the Mets Kevin Plawecki (C) and Austin Jackson (OF) in their match-up agianst the LHP Cole Hamels of the Cubs. I know Hamels has pitched great since joining the Cubs and he has always fared well in the National League, however, this is still a pitcher that gives up a bunch of HR’s to RHB’s, including 22 of them this season. I like “punting” the Mets tonight as we saw the ball fly out of Wrigley Field last night and the conditions should be the same tonight as the wind is blowing out hard to dead center field tonight. Plawecki has some solid pop in his bat and has looked good as of late as he is 5 for his last 9 with a double and HR. Plawecki has a .804 OPS vs. LHP on the season and was 2 for 3 last night with a HR, RBI, 2 Runs, and a BB. Jackson hit 2nd in the order last night which I expect to be the same tonight against another LHO and has a solid night last night, going 2 for 5 with an RBI. Jackson is hitting .307 in the month of August and has plenty experience agianst Hamels in his career.
On the left side of our infield tonight, we’re going to pay up for Houston’s Carlos Correa (SS) and the Dodgers Max Muncy (3B). Correa comes into this game with a decent matchup agianst the LHP Edwin Jackson of the Oakland Athletics who despite being solid in his 11 starts this season (2.97 ERA), looks as if he is starting to regress as over his last two starts agianst Houston and Texas, he has gone a combined 9.1 IP while allowed 6 ER’s and 4 HR’s. Correa is hitting just .252 in an injury-plagued season, however does have 14 HR’s and 58 RBI’s on the year and still is hitting in the heart of the very talented Houston offense which finally has all their pieces back. Correa is hitting .280 over the past week which is good sign that he is starting to heat up and as 13 of his 14 HR’s have been agianst RHP on the season, I like him tonight with the wind blowing out at Minute Maid Park. Muncy has one of the better match-ups of the night against the Rangers RHP Ariel Jurado. It’s been a real struggle for Jurado since being called up to the Major Leagues as the soft-throwing RHP has posted a 6.40 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and an abysmal 3.3 K/9 rate. Jurado has allowed 26 hits, 16 ER’s and 5 HR’s over his last three starts (16.2 IP) and is allowing LHB’s to post a .370 average & 1.072 slugging percentage. Muncy comes into this game with a .259 average with 30 HR’s and 59 RBI’s and is starting to heat up agianst as over the past week, he has posted a .333 average with 2 HR’s. Munch has a .969 OPS vs. RHP on the season and will be hitting at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington which has always been a great hitter’s park.
Rounding out the team tonight will be Baltimore’s Trey Mancini (1B) as he has a decent match-up at home against the LHP Thomas Pannone of the Blue Jays. Pannone pitched a gem against Baltimore in his last start, however, I think Baltimore is going to have more success the 2nd time around against the LHP as this is the same pitcher that posted a 5.36 ERA in 9 games in the minor leagues this season. It’s been a real tough season for Mancini, however, the talented young player looks like he is finally putting it together this season as he is hitting .296 over the past week with 3 doubles and 2 HR’s. Mancini has great power (19 HR’s) and has shown in the past that he can hit LHP as coming into this season, he had a .299 average and .805 OPS vs. LHP.
Please check back later as I’ll make any updates to the lineup due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
