DFS – Fantasy Baseball – MLB DraftKings Lineup, Picks & Advice – 8/30/18
Hi Everyone! It was a decent night for our DraftKings lineup last night as although our 96.55 point performance fell short of our GPP’s, it was enough for us to cash in our 50/50’s. We didn’t get a huge night on the mound as CC Sabathia (15.3 points) and Gio Gonzalez (5.25) combined for just about 20 points, however, our offense led by Juan Soto (21 points), Trey Mancini (19 points), and Francisco Lindor (10 points) did enough to allow us to cash. Let’s try to keep the winning going tonight as we take a look at the 8-game “Main” slate that starts at 7:05 PM tonight.
On the mound tonight, we’re going to be paying up for Boston’s Rick Porcello (P) and Oakland’s Frankie Montas (P). Porcello has a plus match-up agianst the Chicago White Sox tonight and comes into this game with a solid 4.18 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. Porcello has been a bit hit or miss lately, but overall has been solid as he has held his opponents to just a .199 average since the All-Star break. Porcello has been striking out opponents at a career-high rate this season as he comes into this game with a solid 9.0 K/9 ratio which he should be able to improve on as the White Sox rank dead last in MLB in team strikeout rate at 9.62 K/game. Porcello was solid agianst the White Sox earlier this season, as although he didn’t get the win, he gave up just 2 ER’s over 6 innings to get the quality start. The White rank just 23rd in team batting average vs. RHP (.244) and I think that Porcello is going to have a solid night at Fenway tonight. Montas will be back on the mound tonight for the first time since late July and I don’t mind taking a chance with him tonight as the RHP comes into this game with a solid 3.75 ERA and 5-3 overall record. Seattle’s offense is not the greatest matchup however, they do come into this game coming off a tough offensive two game series against the Padres, combing for just 4 runs in the two losses. Montas has a career 8.2 K/9 ratio so he can generate some strikeouts and as the Mariners haven’t seen him before, I’m hoping that Montas can bring the same stuff that some him get 20+ DraftKings points in 4 of his first 5 starts this season.
On the offensive side of the ball tonight, we’re going to do our best to stack the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox as they have two of the better match-ups on the slate.
For the Yankees, we’re going to be going with a 3-man stack of Luke Voit (C/1B), Gleyber Torres (SS), and Giancarlo Stanton (OF) in their match-up against the LHP Francisco Liriano of the Detroit Tigers. Liriano comes into this game with a 4.82 ERA and 1.52 WHIP, however, has really struggled in the month of August as in his 4 starts, he has posted a 6.88 ERA while allowing his opponents to post a .329 average against him. Liriano has allowed 5 HR’s over his last 17 IP and hasn’t fared well against the current Yankees roster as he is allowing them to post a .315 average/.829 OPS against him in his career. Voit had the night off last night, however, I expect to be back in the middle of the lineup tonight against a hittable LHP as he comes into this game with a .306 average with 4 HR’s & 12 RBI’s in 13 games this season. Voit is most likely going to be a popular play tonight as his HR-upside and salary relief is hard to pass up on. Torres has had an incredible rookie season for the Yankees as he comes into this game with a .273 average with 20 HR’s and 58 RBI’s. Torres has posted a .409 average with 2 HR’s over the past week and has posted a .906 OPS vs. LHP on the season. Stanton is in the midst of another major slump, however, I think there is a good chance he’ll be able to break out of it tonight in this match-up. Stanton comes into this game with a .275 average with 32 HR’s and 82 RBI’s and has been outstanding this season vs. LHP as he has posted a .333 average/.667 slugging percentage/1.070 OPS.
As for the Red Sox, For the Red Sox, we are going with a 3-man stack of Blake Swihart (C), Eduardo Nunez (3B), and Jackie Bradley Jr. (OF) in their match-up against the RHP Lucas Giolito of the Chicago White Sox. Giolito had a tough first full season with the White Sox as he comes into this game with a 5.85 ERA and 1.44 WHIP. Giolito has pitched a bit better since the All-Star break however, the numbers aren’t outstanding as in his 7 starts since the All-Star break, the right-hander has posted a 5.01 ERA. Giolito has had a bunch of trouble with HR’s this season and over his career as he has a career 1.6 HR/9 ratio in 37 starts and those numbers have a good chance of getting worse as he is up against a Red Sox team that leads MLB in OPS vs. RHP (.818) on the season. We’ll have to make sure that Swihart gets the start tonight, but if he does, I think he is a great “punt” play at this salary. Swihart seems like he is finally putting it together at the plate as he has hits in 4 of his last 5 games he has started and went 2 for 2 with a double and 2 RBI’s last night. Swihart has some pop in his bat and has been much better vs. RHP on the season as he has hit .258 against them on the season. Nunez is another Red Sox that is starting to swing a hot bat as he has posted a .298 average in August and is hitting .417 over the past week. Nunez has hit HR’s in back to back games and has fared much better agianst RHP’s this season, posting a .273 average with 8 of his 9 HR’s. Jackie Bradley Jr. is hitting just .230 on the season, however, has 11 HR’s and just like all the Red Sox’s at the bottom of the order, has been outstanding as of late as he is hitting .389 over the past week and .291 in the month of August.
Completing the infield tonight, we’re going to be rolling with Colorado’s Trevor Story (SS) who comes into this game with a solid match-up against the LHP Eric Lauer of the San Diego Padres. Lauer is coming off the DL to make this start today and has struggled all season as he comes into this game with a 5.30 ERA and 1.71 WHIP. Lauer is allowing his opponents to post a .314 average and .868 slugging percentage against him on the season. Story comes into this game with a .291 average with an impressive 26 HR’s and 86 RBI’s on the season. Story has posted a .318 average/1.002 OPS vs. LHP on the season and has a .913 OPS during “night” games on the season.
Rounding out the team tonight will be Nick Castellanos (OF) of the Detroit Tigers in his match-up against the LHP J.A. Happ of the New York Yankees. Happ has been solid this season, posting a 3.80 ERA and 1.12 WHIP and has been rock solid since being acquired by the Yankees, however, if Happ has one issue it’s giving up HR’s to RHB’s as he has allowed RHB’s to hit 19 HR’s against him on the season. Castellanos has been one of the very few bright spots for the Detroit Tigers as he comes into this season with a .290 average with 19 HR’s and 73 RBI’s. Castellanos is hitting .289 in the month of August and has been outstanding against LHP on the season, posting a .398 average/.618 slugging percentage/1.066 OPS. Castellanos has also crushed Happ in his career as in 19 career AB's, he has posted a .579 average with a HR.
Please check back later as I’ll make any necessary updates to the lineup due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
