DFS – Fantasy Baseball – MLB DraftKings Lineup, Picks & Advice – 9/2/18
Hi Everyone! It was a decent night for us last night as our 103.65 point performance was enough to cash in our 50/50’s despite falling short in our GPP’s. Patrick Corbin (22.25 points) had a solid outing however, didn’t last as long as we would have liked as he racked up a high-pitch count early in his game against the Dodgers. Jose Berrios (7.4 points) had another disappointing start, however, we were still able to win thanks to the offensive efforts of J.T. Realmuto (21 points), Brandon Lowe (19 points), and Whit Merrifield (19 points). Let’s keep the winning going as we take a look at the 1:05pm “Featured” slate that features 8 games.
On the mound this afternoon we’re going to be going with Yankees Lance Lynn (P) and the Red Sox’s Brian Johnson (P). Lynn comes into this game with just a 4.84 ERA and 1.57 WHIP on the season however, the veteran RHP has been better since joining the Yankees, posting a 3.98 ERA. We like Lynn this afternoon as he is up against the Detroit Tigers who rank just 28th in MLB in team batting average vs. RHP (.235). Lynn has solid strikeout stuff and he been even better making people swing and miss since joining the Yankees as he comes in with a 10.8 K/9 ratio in his 6 games with New York. Lynn has been impressive in his two starts agianst the Tigers this season, posting a 2.03 ERA while striking out 13 batters in 13.1 IP. Johnson is bit of a riskier play, especially with his higher than expected price, however, I’m willing to roll with the Red Sox LHP after seeing his fellow LHP teammate, Eduardo Rodriguez, absolutely dominated the Chicago White Sox yesterday. Johnson comes into game with a 4.02 ERA and 1.37 WHIP and hasn’t allowed just 7 ER over his last 4 starts. Johnson has a respectable 8.0 K/9 ratio and will have a chance to improve on that number as the White Sox rank dead last in MLB in terms of team strikeout rate (9.71 K/G; 13.33 K/G over last 3). Johnson has trouble lasting deep into games as the Red Sox generally pull him at the first sight of any trouble, however if he has his curveball going today, he has the potential for a big day.
Unlike FanDuel this afternoon, DraftKings is including the MIN/TEX game and with that pitching match-up, we need to ensure we have some solid exposure in this game.
For the Rangers, we’re going to be going with Robinson Chirinos (C), Elvis Andrus (SS), and Nomar Mazara (OF) in their match-up against the LHP Gabriel Moya who comes into this game with a 4.73 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 26.2 IP on the season. This will be Moya’s first start of the season and it could be a struggle as Moya hasn’t been great on the road this season, posting a 5.79 ERA. Moya has struggled much more against RHB’s this season, allowing them to post a .262 average/.781 OPS against him. Chirinos comes into this game with just a .217 average, however, does have solid HR power as he comes into this match-up with 16 HR’s and 56 RBI’s on the season. Chirinos has just a .210 average vs. LHP on the season but does have a respectable .750 OPS. Andrus comes into this game with just a .266 average with 4 HR’s and 28 RBI’s, however, I don’t hate his match-up today especially as Andrus comes into this game with a .316 average/.824 OPS at home this season. Mazara comes into this match-up with a .263 average with 18 HR’s and 65 RBI’s and looks like he is fully back from his injury as he has hit two bombs over his last two games. Mazara has a .806 OPS at home this season with 13 of his 18 HR’s.
For the Twins, we’re going to be going with Miguel Sano (1B) and Logan Forsythe (2B) in their match-up against the LHP Yohander Mendez who comes into this game with a 14.73 ERA & 2.73 WHIP in 3.2 IP this season. Mendez didn’t last long in his only start of the season in mid-June against the Rockies as he allowed 6 ER’s on 7 hits in just 3.0 IP. Mendez is allowing his opponents to post a .421 average/1.108 OPS against him on the season and is allowing RHB’s to hit .429 against him in 14 AB’s. Sano is coming in with just a .202 average on the season, but we like him just because of his HR upside as he has 13 HR’s on the year. Sano does have 3 HR’s over his last 8 games and actually has fared well agianst Texas in his career, as coming into this season he has a .386 average/1.165 OPS in 57 AB’s vs. the Rangers. Forsythe is hitting just .247 on the season with 2 HR’s and 23 RBI’s, however, has been a solid contributor since being acquired by the Twins as he has a .326 average since joining his new club. Forsythe picked up 3 hits last night and has a solid .280 average in away games on the year.
We are going with a mini-stack Cincinnati Reds this afternoon in Eugenio Suarez (3B), and Scott Schebler (OF) in their match-up agianst the RHP Luke Weaver of the St. Louis Cardinals with the wind blowing out in St. Louis today. Weaver will be back making the start today after a few appearances out of the bullpen and comes into this game with a 4.59 ERA and 1.41 WHIP on the season. Weaver is allowing his opponents to post a .273 average against him on the season an hasn’t been anything special in his 11.0 IP against the Reds this season, posting a 4.91 ERA. Suarez is having a monster season for the Reds as he comes into this game this afternoon with a .296 average with 30 HR’s and 98 RBI’s. Suarez is hitting .300 over the past week and has posted a .318 average with 4 HR’s vs. the Cardinals on the season. Schebler comes into this game with a .272 average with 13 HR’s and 40 RBI’s. Schebler looks like he has shaken off the rust after missing over a month due to injury as he is 5 for his last 11 with 3 doubles & HR and has hit Weaver well, going 3 for 6 with a double in his career.
Rounding out the team tonight, we’re going to spend up for the Red Sox’s Mookie Betts (OF) in his solid match-up against the White Sox’s Jamie Shields. Shields comes into this game with a 4.54 ERA and 1.30 WHIP on the season however, has struggled a bit more of late, allowing 12 ER’s over his past three starts. Shields has the tendency to give up HR’s (27 this season) and is allowing RHB’s to post a .273 average/.797 OPS against him on the season. Betts comes into this game hitting .342 on the season with 29 HR’s, 70 RBI’s, and 26 SB’s on the season. Mookie is starting to heat up again after a mini-slump as the Red Sox star is hitting .500 (10-20) over the past week with 2 HR’s.
Please check back later as I’ll make any necessary updates to the lineup due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
