DFS – Fantasy Baseball – MLB DraftKings Lineup, Picks & Advice – 9/9/18
Update (12:32 PM) - Needed to make some adjustments to the lineup as Perez isn't playing. Decided to go with a full-stack of Indians as I replaced Perez with Yan Gomes and replaced Hoskins with Michael Brantley. Image is updated below! Good Luck.
Hi Everyone! We had a decent 110.25 point performance last night that although fell short in our GPP’s, I was able to barley cash in the 50/50’s that I entered. It was an ugly day for us on the mound as we barley got 20-points between our two pitchers Noah Syndergaard (8.8 points) & Matt Shoemaker (12.45 points). Our Mets stack paid off yesterday as Jeff McNeil (18 points), Jay Bruce (16 points), and Michael Conforto (19 points) all had big days. Chris Iannetta (21 points) was a solid “punt” play at the catcher position however, our expensive Dodgers duo of Justin Turner and Manny Machado combined for just 5 points. It’s going to be hard to focus on baseball this afternoon as NFL season is here, however, here is our lineup for the 11-game featured slate that starts at 1:07pm.
On the mound tonight, it will be hard to afford Jason deGrom and be able to do anything on the offensive end, so we decided to go with the Angels Andrew Heaney (P) and the Brewers Zach Davies (P). Heaney comes into this game with a 4.16 ERA and 1.19 WHIP on the season and has one of the best match-ups on the slate against the Chicago White Sox. Heaney is holding his opponents to just a .245 average and .708 OPS on the season. Heaney has a decent K/9 ratio of 8.5 and has an opportunity for a nice day in that department as the White Sox rank dead last in team strikeout rate, striking out 9.7 times per game. We’ve seen the White Sox get dominated by an LHP recently in Eduardo Rodriguez and as the wind is blowing in heavy from left-field which should limit the HR’s, I think Heaney could have a nice day. Davies comes into this game with a 4.88 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in just 9 starts this season, however, we like him a SP2 today as he is very affordable and looked great in his first start off the DL last week against the Cubs (5.0 IP, 4 H, ER, 7 K’s). Davies is allowing their opponents to post a .268 average on the season, however, has been great in “day” games this year as in 5 starts, Davies has posted a 3.14 ERA while holding his opponents to just a .224 average. Davies has a respectable 7.1 K/9 ratio and as I’m not that intimidated by the Giants currently roster, I think Davies will be able to hit value today.
We’re going to start off this afternoon slate with the expensive duo of the Indians Francisco Lindor (SS) and Jose Ramirez (3B) in their match-up agianst the Blue Jays LHP Thomas Pannone. Pannone comes into this game with a 4.58 ERA and 1.13 WHIP, however, struggled in his last start against the Orioles as he lasted just 3.1 IP, giving up 7 ER on 9 hits. Pannone didn’t impress in the minors this season, as between his multiple stops this season, he posted just a 5.36 ERA over 9 combined games. Lindor comes into this game with a .284 average with 33 HR’s, 84 RBI’s, & 23 SB’s and is hitting .281 over the past week with 4 HR’s. The switch-hitting Lindor has loved seeing LHP on the mound this season as he is posting a .364 average/.579 slugging percentage/1.020 OPS against them. Ramirez is hitting just .208 over the past week, however, this is still one of the best hitters in all of baseball as he comes into this game with a .285 average with 37 HR’s, 97 RBI’s, and 29 SB’s. Ramirez has posted .287 average/.840 OPS vs. RHP on the season and I expect him to break off of his recent slump this afternoon.
We’re going to go right back with the Mets tonight as we are going to get the LHB’s of Jeff McNeil (2B) and Jay Bruce (OF) in the lineup in their match-up agianst Vince Velasquez of the Phillies. Velasquez comes into this game with a 4.10 ERA and 1.25 WHIP, however, he has struggled more as of late as he has hasn’t lasted the 5th inning in any of his last five starts. Velasquez has been much worse against LHB’s this season, allowing them to post a .254 average/.808 OPS (11 HR’s) and he has allowed the current Mets roster to post a .801 OPS against him. McNeil has been outstanding since joining the Mets as in his 43 games played, he has posted a .329 average with 2 HR’s and 13 RBI’s. McNeil is hitting .391 over the past week and has been great at Citi Field, posting a .455 average in 55 AB’s. Bruce is hitting just .227 with 6 HR’s and 23 RBI’s in a season filled with injury, however, since returning to the starting lineup, he has been outstanding and over the past week, is hitting .353 with 2 HR’s. Bruce is 6 for 13 over his last 4 games and is 3 for 9 with a HR against Velasquez in his career.
We wanted to get some action in the MIN/KC game today and we’ll start off with the Twins Eddie Rosario (OF) in his good match-up agianst the Royals RHP Ian Kennedy. Kennedy comes into this game with just a 5.13 ERA and 1.44 WHIP and will be seeing his first action since mid-July due to an oblique injury. Kennedy is allowing his opponents to post a .818 OPS and is prone to giving up HR’s as he currently has a 1.7 HR/9 ratio on the season. Rosario comes into this game with a .292 average with 23 HR’s, 75 HR’s, and 8 SB’s. Rosario has posted a .301 average/.864 OPS vs. RHP on the season and is 8 for 19 (.421 average) with a HR against Kennedy in his career.
Staying with this match-up, we’re going to get Royals Salvador Perez (Utility) in our lineup with his matchup agianst the Twins RHP Chase De Jong. De Jong will be making his first appearance in the majors this season after a tough first year with Seattle in 2017 where the right-hander posted a 6.35 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in 28.1 IP. De Jong has been decent in the minors this season, posting a 3.66 ERA between Double-A & Triple-A ball however, did have a 1.6 HR/9 ratio in his short stint in the majors last season. Perez returned to the lineup a thumb injury kept him out for about a week however, I like him today in this match-up as Perez comes into this game with 24 HR’s and 68 RBI’s on the season. Perez has hit better at home this season and has 18 of his 24 HR’s vs. RHP on the season.
Completing the infield tonight, we’re going to go with be the Rays C.J. Cron (C/1B) who will be up against the LHP Jose Rogers of the Baltimore Orioles. Rodgers comes into this game with a 4.35 ERA and 1.35 WHIP over 10.1 IP this season while allowing his opponents to post a .275 average/.768 OPS against him on the season. Rogers has struggled against RHB’s this season, as in 33 AB’s, they have posted a .333 average/.545 slugging percentage/.917 OPS against him. Cron comes into this game with just a .255 average however, has some of the best power on the Rays as he has collected 26 HR’s and 61 RBI’s on the season. Cron has been outstanding against LHP on the year, posting a .302 average/.535 slugging percentage/.903 OPS.
Rounding out the team tonight, we’re going to be taking a chance with going with Rhys Hoskins (OF) of the Philadelphia Phillies in his tough match-up agianst Jason deGrom. I’m not even going to get into deGrom’s stats as we all know how great he has been this season, however, I don’t mind taking a chance on Hoskins who should be low-owned tonight. Hoskins has some of the best power in the game as he has 29 HR’s and 86 RBI’s on the season and showed off that power last night taking a Noah Syndergaard fastball into the bleachers last night. Hoskins is hitting .309 against the Mets on the season and has had some success against deGrom as he is 3 for 11 with a double and 3 BB’s.
Please check back later as we’ll make any necessary update to the lineup based on “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
