Updated (5:46 PM) - Hi Everyone! Everything is the same as we'll just need to confirm Zunino! Image is updated below. Good Luck!
Hi Everyone! Disappointing night last night as we stood little chance after an unexpected cancellation of the WAS/PHI game after the game locked. We still were able to get 71.35 points without four of players and actually came close in cashing in one of our 50/50’s, however, it was a loss night on the MLB end for us. I guess this was the baseball gods making it even on us after we cleaned up the night before with all the teams were left in the dust after Jacob deGrom was a late scratch after that game locked. Let’s get back at it today as we look at the 12-game “Featured” slate that starts at 7:05pm tonight.
We decided to go with Mike Fiers on our FanDuel lineup, however, as he is just a bit too expense for my liking on DraftKings, we’re going to be rostering the Diamondbacks Zack Greinke (P) and the Royals Brad Keller (P). Greinke is coming off a couple of sub-par starts coming into this game at Coors Field, however, he still has a solid 3.08 ERA & 1.06 WHIP on the season. Greinke has been solid against the Rockies this season as in three starts, he has posted a 2.33 ERA while getting an impressive 27 strikeouts over 19.1 IP. Greinke is holding his opponents to a .227 average and although he can give up some HR’s, teams are slugging just .391 against him on the season. Colorado is just an average team when they face RHP, as they rank 17th in team batting average vs. RHP (.248) and also have struggled a bit with strikeouts as they rank just 20th in team strikeout rate. It’s always a risk going with a pitcher at Coors Field, however, Greinke is a top-tier pitcher who put up a 44.2-point performance agianst the Rockies in his last start, and for just $8,000, is worth the risk for me tonight. Keller has been outstanding in his rookie season as the RHP comes into this game with a 3.14 ERA and 1.33 WHIP over 38 appearances (17 starts) this season. Keller posted a solid 2.89 ERA over 6 starts in August and had a decent recent outing against a good Cleveland team in which he allowed just 1 ER over 7.0 IP. Keller is not a huge strikeout guy as he has just a 6.9 K/9 ratio, however, he has a solid match-up against the White Sox who come into this game ranked 22nd in team batting average vs. RHP (.243) and dead last in team strikeout rate (9.67 K/game). Keller has made 6 appearances against the White Sox this season and although he has just a 4.76 ERA, it’s encouraging that he has 17 K’s over 17.0 IP. Keller has gotten better and better as the season has progressed and between his price and the match-up, I think he is worth a shot tonight.
We’re going to start our offense tonight with a solid stack of the Boston Red Sox’s in Xander Bogaerts (SS), Mookie Betts (OF), and J.D. Martinez (OF) in their match-up agianst the LHP Ryan Borucki of the Toronto Blue Jays. Borucki comes into this game with a 4.39 ERA and 1.48 WHIP on the season, however, it been tough for the rookie LHP as of late as he is coming off a month of August in which he posted a 6.59 ERA while allowing opponents to hit .317 against him in 6 starts. Borucki won’t be thrilled to see the Red Sox tonight as in his two starts agianst them this season he has posted a 9.00 ERA while allowing Boston to hit .415 against him. Bogaerts is having one of his best offensive seasons in his career as he comes into this game with a .291 average with 21 HR’s and 93 RBI’s. Bogaerts is red-hot right now, hitting .600 (9 for 15) with 2 HR’s over the past week and has posted an incredible .462 average in the month of September. Betts is a legitimate MVP candidate this season as the Red Sox outfielder comes into this game with a .342 average with 29 HR’s and 71 RBI’s on the season. Betts is hitting .467 over the past week and is 5 for 5 lifetime with three triples agianst Borucki in his career. Speaking of MVP candidates, Martinez comes into this game with a .331 average with 40 HR’s and 121 RBI’s on the season. Martinez is in a bit of a slump as of late, however, has crushed at Fenway all season, posting a .340 average/1.105 OPS.
We have a small stack Tampa Bay Rays in Jake Bauers (1B) and Brandon Lowe (2B) who be up agianst Cleveland’s RHP Shane Bieber. Bieber comes into this game with a 4.63 ERA and 1.36 WHIP on the season and although he has had some quality starts for the Indians, he is allowing opponents to hit .294/.812 OPS against him on the year. Bieber has had real trouble with LHB’s this year as in 186 AB’s, he is allowing LHB’s to post a .323 average/.941 OPS. Bauers has really struggled over the past few months as we’ve seen his batting average drop to just .195 on the season. The good news about Bauers, is that he still is a talented prospect for the Rays who has shown solid power hitting 10 HR’s since being called up to the majors. Bauers hit a HR last night which I’m hoping will get him back on track and as there is major upside with the match-up and his price tonight, I’m going to roll with Bauers. Lowe comes into this game with a .250 average but does have 4 HR’s, 15 RBI’s, and 2 SB’s in his 76 AB’s since being called up. Lowe is hitting .385 (5-13) against Cleveland on the season and has posted a solid .838 OPS vs. RHP on the season.
Behind the backstop tonight, we’re going to going with Seattle Mike Zunino (C) in his match-up agianst RHP Bryan Mitchell of the San Diego Padres. Mitchell has struggled in his 13 appearances (8 starts) in the majors as the right-hander has posted a 6.58 ERA and 1.93 WHIP. Mitchell has really had a tough time agianst RHB’s this year, allowing them to post a .353 average/1.007 OPS against him. Zunino is a “boom or bust” pick as although he hitting just .191 on the season, he does have 19 HR’s and 41 RBI’s on the season. Zunino has fared better against RHP on the season and although he is prone to striking out, this is a good match-up for him tonight as Mitchell isn’t a guy that makes many people miss as he comes in with just a 4.2 K/9 ratio.
Completing the infield tonight we’re going to be going with the Cubs Kris Bryant (3B) in his match-up agianst the RHP Jhoulys Chacin of the Milwaukee Brewers. Chacin has been solid this season posting a 3.59 ERA and 1.22 WHIP however, is coming off a tough start agianst this same Cubs team in which he lasted just 4.2 IP while giving up 3 ER’s on 7 hits. Bryant comes into this game with just a .277 average on the season with 11 HR’s and 46 RBI’s and although the match-up isn’t the greatest, I just think he is too cheap at just $4,300 to pass up on tonight. Bryant has posted a solid .503 slugging percentage/.886 OPS at Wrigley Field this season and has started to heat up a bit as he is hitting .294 over the past week.
Rounding out the team tonight will be Oakland’s Ramon Laureano (OF) in his match-up agianst the RHP Alex Cobb of the Baltimore Orioles. Cobb has pitched better as of late, however, it’s still been a struggle for the veteran RHP this season as he comes into this game with a 4.97 ERA and 1.42 WHIP. Cobb is allowing his opponents to post a .285 average/.819 OPS against him on the season and comes into this game with a 1.4 HR/9 ratio. Laureano has been a nice surprise for the Athletics this season and comes into this game with a .292 average with 5 HR’s and 14 RBI’s. Laureano has posted a .321 average/1.032 OPS vs RHP on the season and is hitting .364 during night games this season.
Please check back later as I’ll make any necessary updates to the lineups due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
