DFS - Fantasy Baseball - MLB FanDuel Lineup, Picks & Advice - 9/12/18

Hi Everyone! It wasn’t the greatest night for us last night as our Red Sox stack, which was highly owned across the board, too a lot of people down last night as Nunez, Bogaerts, Mookie, and Martinez combined for just 27.8 points. We did get a nice start from Mike Fiers who more than hit value with his 46-point performance, however, the rest of our offense along with our Red Sox stack struggled which included a 0-point combined effort from Oakland’s Matt Olsen and Ramon Laureano.  Let’s pick ourselves off the floor and take a look at the 8-game “Main” slate that starts at 7:05 pm tonight.

On the mound tonight, we’re going to be going with a value play in the Angels Felix Pena (P) in his solid match-up agianst the Texas Rangers at home. Pena comes into this game with a respectable 4.04 ERA and 1.26 WHIP on the season while holding his opponents to just a .244 average/.394 slugging percentage. Pena has lasted at least 6.0 IP in each of his last 5 starts (4 quality starts) and in his two starts so far in September, has posted a 1.93 ERA. Pena has a solid 8.7 K/9 ratio on the season and faces a Rangers team that ranks just 21st in team batting average vs. RHP and 27th in team strikeout rate (9.20 K/game). This will be the first time anyone on the Rangers sees Pena which generally is an advantage to the pitcher and as the Angels should be solid favorites in this one, I think Pena will hit and exceed his value tonight.

On the offensive end, we’re going to jump right in with the Angels as we’re going to spend up tonight on both Shohei Ohtani (OF) and Mike Trout (OF) in their solid match-up agianst the RHP Yovani Gallardo of the Texas Rangers. Gallardo comes into this game with a 6.22 ERA and 1.60 WHIP on the season while allowing opponents to post a .283 average/.855 OPS agianst him. In his two starts in September, Gallardo has posted a 7.71 ERA and he has struggled on the road this season, posting a 7.67 ERA while allowing opponents to hit .304 against him. Ohtani comes into this game with a .291 average with 19 HR’s, 54 RBI’s, and 9 SB’s. Ohtani has posted an incredible .674 slugging percentage/1.072 OPS vs. RHP on the season and has been on fire as of late, hitting .423 so far in the month of September. Trout comes into this game with a .318 average with 33 HR’s, 68 RBI’s, and 23 SB’s. Trout is hitting a crazy .647 (11-17) over the past week with 2 HR’s and is 4 for 7 (.571 average) with an extra base hit against Gallardo in his career.

We’re going to go back to Boston and stack some of their LHB’s in Rafael Devers (3B), Andrew Benintendi (OF), and Jackie Bradley Jr. (Utility) in their match-up agianst the RHP Aaron Sanchez of the Toronto Blue Jays. Sanchez comes into this game with a 5.17 ERA and 1.61 WHIP and since returning from the DL in late August, the right-hander has allowed 14 ER’s over 14.1 IP (3 starts). Sanchez has been really hurt my LHB’s this season as he is currently allowing them to post a .305 average/.907 OPS against him. It’s been an up and down season for the young Devers as although he is hitting just .239 on the season, he has posted 16 HR’s and 55 RBI’s. Devers has hit better agianst RHP’s on the season, posting a .749 OPS, and although he just came off the DL himself, I like the HR upside he brings at this price and match-up tonight. Benintendi is a rising star for the Red Sox as he comes into this game with a .293 average with 16 HR’s, 80 RBI’s, and 20 SB’s. Benintendi is hitting .375 over the past week and is a career 3 for 10 with a HR agianst Sanchez. Bradley Jr, is hitting just .230 on the season but the OF better known for his outstanding defense, does have some solid pop in his bat as he has 12 HR’s and 55 RBI’s on the season. Bradley Jr. has hit much better at Fenway this season, posting a .274 average/.785 OPS and also has had some success agianst Sanchez, posting a .333 average (5 for 15) with a HR and 5 RBI’s.

We went for some value at the C/1B position tonight as we are hoping that the red-hot Victor Caratini (C/1B) can continue his recent stretch of outstanding play tonight when he goes up against the RHP Chase Anderson of the Milwaukee Brewers. Anderson comes into this game with a 3.95 ERA and 1.16 WHIP on the season, however, he did struggle in August (5.61 ERA over 5 starts) and has had trouble with the HR Ball, allowing 29 HR’s on the season (1.7 HR/9 ratio). Caratini is hitting just .260 on the season with 2 HR’s and 20 RBI’s, however, he has been unbelievably clutch for the Cubies as of late and is 5 for 10 with a 2B, HR, and 6 RBI’s over his last three games. Caratini is a switch-hitter who has fared much better agianst RHP on the season, posting .303 average over 109 AB’s.

At second base tonight, we’re going to pay up for Kansas City’s Whit Merrifield (2B) in his match-up agianst the LHP Carlos Rodon of the Chicago White Sox. Rodon has been solid for the White Sox this season, posting a 3.11 ERA and 1.08 WHIP, however, he has been a bit shaky as of late, as over his last two starts, he has allowed 8 ER’s on 12 hits (3 HR’s) over 11.0 IP. Rodon has solid stuff and has been tough on hitters all season, however, sometime is prone to the HR ball, especially to RHB. Merrifield comes into this game with a .303 average with 12 HR’s, 54 RBI’s, and 33 SB’s on the season. Merrifield has been a monster vs. LHP on the season, posting a .362 average/.946 OPS and has had plenty of success against Rodon in his career, posting a .500 average (5 for 10) with a couple of extra base hits.

Rounding out the team tonight, we’re going to take advantage of a very reasonable price on Colorado’s Trevor Story (SS) who although has a tough match-up agianst the LHP Patrick Corbin of the Diamondbacks, will be hitting at Coors Field tonight. Corbin comes into this game with 3.01 ERA and 1.01 WHIP, however, the Rockies were tough agianst him in his start at Coors earlier this season as the LHP last just 4.1 IP (5 Hits, 2 ER). Corbin is allowing the Rockies to post a .821 OPS agianst him in his career and it won’t help the fact that wind is supposed to be blowing out a bit tonight in Denver. Story comes into this game with a .293 average with 32 HR’s and 100 RBI’s on the season. Story has been incredible at home, posting a 1.020 OPS and has been even better agianst LHP, posting a .335 average/.707 Slugging %/1.104 OPS. Story has had success off Corbin before, as coming into tonight’s game, he has posted a .353 average (6 for 17) with two 2B’s and a HR.

Please check back later as I’ll make any necessary updates to the lineup due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.

Good Luck!
