Update (12:20 PM) - Jake Cave isn't getting the start. Replacing him with Nicky Delmonico (CWS). Image updated below. Good Luck!
Hi Everyone! We had a decent night yesterday as our 116.40-point performance in the “Featured” contests had us easily cashing in the 50/50’s and GPP’s last night. We were all over Reynaldo Lopez who dominated the White Sox for a 28.75-point outing and got some big offensive games by Mike Trout (23 points), Christian Yelich (21.7 points), Shohei Ohtani (21.7 points), and JT Riddle (16 points). Let’s keep the winning going as we take a look at the 11-game “Featured” slate that starts at 1:05pm.
On the mound this afternoon, we’re going to be spending up for Houston’s Justin Verlander (P) and hope to find value with Philadelphia’s Nick Pivetta (P). Verlander comes into this game with a solid 2.72 ERA & 0.94 WHIP and has been solid over his last two starts, going 7.0 IP in each of them while picking 18 K’s and 2 wins. Verlander is holding his opponents to just a .207 batting average on the season and has a great match-up this afternoon agianst the Arizona Diamondbacks who come into this game ranked dead last in team batting average vs. RHP (.233) and 25th in team strikeout rate (8.94 K/game). Verlander is striking out opponents at a career rate this season, posting a 11.9 K/9 ratio and as the Diamondback roster hasn’t had much success in limited exposure agianst Verlander, I think the veteran RHP is worth the high price tag tonight. Pivetta comes into this game with a 4.64 ERA & 1.31 WHIP and although he hasn’t made it past the 5th inning in any of his last three starts, the right-hander has solid upside this afternoon in his match-up agianst the Miami Marlins. Pivetta is holding opponents to just a .261 average on the season and faces a Marlins team that ranks 25th in team batting average vs. RHP (.241) and 15th in team strikeout rate (8.53 K/game). Over three starts agianst the Marlins this season, Pivetta has a 2.30 ERA and he has strikeout upside with his 10.4 K/9 ratio, I think he has great value tonight.
On the offensive side of things tonight, we’re going to take advantage of the Cleveland Indians “B” lineup today as we get great value from Yandy Diaz (P), Adam Rosales (2B), Josh Donaldson (3B), and Rajai Davis (OF) in their match-up agianst the LHP Francisco Liriano of the Detroit Tigers. Liriano comes into this game with a 4.58 ERA & 1.53 WHIP and has really struggled against RHB’s on the season, allowing them to post a .280 average/.857 OPS. Diaz comes into this game with a .280 average with 1 HR & 12 RBI’s in 82 AB”s this season. Diaz has struggled a bit as of late, however, has posted a respectable .751 OPS at home this season. Rosales is a 10-year veteran which makes a solid “punt” play to add in our Indians stack as although he is just a career .226 average, he does have 47 career HR’s. Rosales does have a respectable .723 OPS vs. LHP over the past three seasons. Donaldson comes into this game with a .233 average with 6 HR’s and 17 RBI’s, however, the former MVP finally looks healthy and had a monster game last night, going 2 for 4 with a HR. Donaldson has posted a .865 OPS vs. LHP on the season while posting a .995 OPS vs. LHP over his last three season. Rajai Davis doesn’t get a lot of playing team anymore and although he is hitting just .235 with a HR & 6 RBI’s, Davis still has some great speed as he has 19 SB’s on the season. Davis has seen plenty of Liriano in his career and has had some nice success as he is 15 for 42 (.357) agianst the LHP.
Behind the backstop, we’re going with Milwaukee’s Erik Kratz (C) in his matchup against the RHP Trevor Williams of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Williams has been really solid of the Pirates, posting a 3.28 ERA & 1.18 WHIP however, did have a rough outing recently against the Cardinals as he allowed 4 ER’s over 5 IP. Kratz comes into this game with a .243 average with 5 HR’s and 20 RBI’s and has been somewhat successful agianst Pittsburgh, posting a .269 average agianst the Pirates. Kratz has been better agianst RHP on the season posting a .262 average.
Completing the infield this afternoon, will be Asdrubal Cabrera (SS) of the Philadelphia Phillies in his match-up against the RHP Jose Urena of the Miami Marlins. Urena comes into this game with a 4.29 ERA and 1.20 WHIP and although he has pitched better as of late, he has allowed HR’s in three consecutive games. Urena has struggled much more agianst LHB’s on the season as he is allowing them to post a .262 average/.760 OPS. Cabrera has had a solid season as he comes into this game with a .265 average with 23 HR’s and 75 RBI’s. The switch-hitting Cabrera has posted a .511 slugging percentage and .838 OPS vs. RHP on the season and has 2 HR’s off Urena in his career.
We wanted to get at least one New York Yankee in our lineup today and we did with their new lead-off man Andrew McCutchen (OF) as he has a nice match-up against the LHP Thomas Pannone of the Toronto Blue Jays. Pannone comes into this game with a 4.13 ERA and 1.13 WHIP and although he has pitched well outside of one rough start at Baltimore, he didn’t light it up in the minors this season as in 9 starts, he posted just a 5.54 ERA. McCutchen comes into this game with a .252 average with 18 HR’s and 61 RBI’s and has been solid as of late, hitting .316 over the past week. McCutchen has a .954 OPS at Yankee Stadium on the season and a solid .808 OPS vs. LHP on the season.
Rounding out the team tonight is one of my favorite value plays in Minnesota’s Jake Cave (OF) in his decent match-up agianst the Royals Jakob Junis. Junis comes into this game with a 4.28 ERA & 1.23 WHIP on the season and although he has pitched well as of late, Junis has had trouble with the HR ball all season, as he has allowed 29 HR’s on the year. Cave has been a great find for the Twins as he comes into this game with a .264 average with 11 HR’s & 36 RBI’s. Cave is currently on a 6-game hitting streak and has posted a .500 slugging percentage/.827 OPS vs. RHP on the season.
