DFS – Fantasy Baseball – MLB FanDuel Lineup, Picks & Advice – 9/17/18
Update (5:46 PM) - I actually just decided to make some adjustments. I'm going to save some extra money by going with a few Marlins at minimum price which allows me to get to Manchado in the lineup. Image is updated below! Good Luck!
Hi Everyone! It was a solid day yesterday for our MLB lineups as our 135.8-point performance had us cashing in both our GPP’s and 50/50’s. We decided to pay up for Justin Verlander yesterday and that was the right call as Verlander dominated the Arizona Diamondbacks for a 61-point performance. Our value offense didn’t light it up, however, we did get strong performances by Jonathan Villar (31.4 points), Andrew McCutchen (18.7 points), and Yandy Diaz (15.7 points) that allowed us to end our weeks on a good note. Let’s start this week off right as we take a look at the 12-game “Main” slate that starts at 7:05pm.
On the mound tonight, we’re going to be going with Atlanta’s Mike Foltynewicz (P) in his solid match-up agianst the St. Louis Cardinals. Foltynewicz has been lights out this season as the hard throwing RHP comes into this game with a 2.66 ERA & 1.10 WHIP on the season. St. Louis is a solid team however, I think they’re in a tough spot tonight as they were the Sunday night game yesterday in Los Angeles, and had to make the cross-country trek to play in Atlanta tonight. Foltynewicz is holding his opponents to just a .201 average/.603 OPS and face a St. Louis team that ranks just 17th in MLB in terms of batting average vs. RHP (.249). Foltynewicz currently has a career high 10.1 K/9 ratio and we’ve seen the Cardinals put up some high strikeout totals against RHP on the season. Foltynewicz was outstanding in his only other start agianst the Cardinals this season (5.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 9 K) and I think he throws another gem tonight at home agianst a tired St. Louis team.
We’re going to kick off our offense tonight with a 4-man stack of the Tampa Bay Rays in Ji-Man Choi (C/1B), Brandon Lowe (2B), Tommy Pham (OF), and Jake Bauers (Utility) in their match-up against the Rangers RHP Adrian Sampson. Sampson comes into this game with a 5.06 ERA and 1.31 WHIP over 5.1 IP this season. Sampson was rocked in his first outing of the season agianst Oakland (0.1 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, HR) and never really has impressed that much down in the minors as he has posted a career 3.94 ERA and 6.3 K/9 ratio over 146 minor league appearances. Choi comes into this game with just a .262 average however, he does have some solid power and has recorded 9 HR’s and 29 RBI’s in his 54 games played this season. Choi has posted a .887 OPS vs. RHP on the season and has hit 4 HR’s already in the month of September. Lowe comes into this game with a .247 average with 5 HR’s & 19 RBI’s over AB’s since being called up to the majors. Lowe has a solid .909 OPS on the road this season and is hitting .306 with a 1.088 OPS over the past month. Pham comes into this game with a .261 average on the season with 17 HR’s, 53 RBI’s, & 12 SB’s and has been outstanding since being acquired by the Rays, posting a .309 average. Pham has hits in 17 of his last 18 games and is always a threat for a big DFS night as he has a great power/speed combination. Bauers has had his struggles since the All-Star break, however, the talented Rays prospect looks as if he is finally snapping out of his funk as he is hitting .278 with 2 HR’s over the past week. Bauers has HR power as he has 11 HR’s on the season and has posted a 1.058 OPS over the past week.
We have a mini-stack of Minnesota Twins tonight in Jorge Polanco (SS) and Jake Cave (OF) in their match-up agianst the RHP Jordan Zimmerman of the Detroit Tigers. Zimmerman comes into this game with a respectable 4.17 ERA and 1.22 WHIP on the season however, he has struggled more since the All-Star break, posting a 4.70 ERA while allowing opponents to hit .281 against him. Zimmerman has allowed 6 HR’s over his past three starts and certainly can give up the long ball as he comes into this game with a 1.9 HR/9 ratio. Polanco comes into this game with a .285 average on the season with 5 HR’s & 32 RBI’s and has been outstanding as of late, posting a .407 average over the past week. The switch-hitting Polanco will be on his favorite side of the plate tonight as he has posted a .325 average/.840 OPS as an LHB on the season. Cave has been a solid contributor for the Twins this season as he comes into this game with a .263 average with 11 HR’s and 36 RBI’s. Cave is hitting .308 over the past week and has an impressive .822 OPS vs. RHP on the season.
Rounding out the infield tonight, we’re going to take a shot with the Marlins Brian Anderson (3B) who comes into this game with a decent match-up against the RHP Eric Fedde of the Washington Nationals. Fedde threw his best outing as an MLB pitcher in his recent start at Philadelphia however, this is still a pitcher that comes into this game with a 5.12 ERA and 1.45 WHIP. Fedde has struggled agianst RHB’s on the season as in 79 AB’s, he is allowing RHB’s to post a .304 average and .855 OPS. Anderson comes into this game with a .270 average with 10 HR’s and 59 RBI’s. Anderson has struggled a bit in September, however, does have hits in 4 of his last 5 games, and although he is more of a “punt” play as 3B was the last position I had to fill tonight and only had $2,500 left, I don’t mind the play as he does have HR-upside.
Completing the team tonight, we decided to pay up for the Brewers Christian Yelich (OF) in his great match-up against the RHP Anthony DeSclafani of the Cincinnati Reds. DeSclafani enters tonight’s game agianst the Brewers with a 4.80 ERA and 1.29 WHIP on the season. DeSclafani has been hurt by the HR ball this season as he currently has a 1.8 HR/9 ratio and ha struggled in his two starts agianst Milwaukee this season, posting a 5.54 ERA over 13.0 IP. Yelich is having a monster season with the Brewers as he comes into this game with a .313 average with 30 HR’s, 89 RBI’s, and 19 SB’s. Yelich has a .947 OPS vs. RHP on the season and is 3 for 9 lifetime against DeSclafani with a HR.
Please check back later as we’ll make any necessary updates to the lineup due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
