Update (6:15 PM) - Hi Everyone! I've made some adjustments to the lineups as I've added more of a Toronto stack vs. Bundy. Image updated below. Good Luck!
Hi Everyone! It was an interesting day for our DraftKings lineup yesterday as although we got an awful pitching performance from our high-cost pitcher, we still managed to get 105.0 points and cash in our 50/50’s. We decided to pay up for Atlanta’s Mike Foltynewicz which was not the right play, as the hard throwing RHP finished the game with -3.5 points. The good news is that we started the Rays Tyler Glasnow who had a solid 26.5-point performance and got some big offensive performances by Christian Yelich (36 points) and Jorge Polanco (19 points) to help us get over the cash line in our 50/50’s. Let’s get back at it tonight as we take a look at the 14-game “Featured” slate that starts at 7:05pm.
On the mound tonight, we’re going two different directions as we’re paying the top-price for Tampa Bay’s Blake Snell (P) while also paying for the cheapest pitcher in Houston’s Josh James (P). Snell comes into his game agianst the Texas Rangers pitching the best baseball of his career as he is currently posting a 2.03 ERA and 0.98 WHIP on the season. Snell is holding his opponents to just a .183 average on the season (.142 vs. LHP; .193 vs. RHP) and faces a Texas team that ranks just 20th in MLB vs. LHP in terms of batting average (.241). Snell is posting the best K/9 ratio in his career as he comes into this game with a 10.7 ratio and should continue to make hitters miss as Texas ranks 27th in team strikeout rate at 9.17 K/game. Snell dominated Texas earlier this season (6.1 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 9 K) and as he has posted a 1.40 ERA since the All-Star break, I think the LHP continues his strong 2nd half in this great match-up tonight. Josh James is an interesting pick that warrants your attention tonight as although he is most likely going to be on a pitch count as he has made a start for over two weeks, there is no denying the talent and upside James brings into his match-up tonight agianst Seattle at this price. James comes into this game with a 4.22 ERA however, has just a 0.94 WHIP and has an insane 14.3 K/9 ratio in 10.2 IP in the majors this season. James has a lively arm that can hit triple-digits on the radar gun posted 3.54 ERA and 13.5 K/9 ratio over 21 starts in the minors this season. James posted a decent 19.7 DK points in his only other start this season and if he can last 4 or 5 innings while piling up a few K’s, I think he’ll be more than worth his value at this price tonight.
We’ll stick with the Tampa Bay Rays as we’re going to go with a 2-man stack tonight in Ji-Man Choi (C/1B) and Tommy Pham (OF) in their match-up agianst the RHP Yovani Gallardo of the Texas Rangers. Gallardo comes into this game with a 6.67 ERA and 1.63 WHIP on the season and has struggled as of late, giving up 17 ER’s over his last 17.1 IP. Gallardo is allowing his opponents to post a .288 average/.505 slugging percentage/.874 OPS on the season and is allowing the current Rays roster to post a .969 OPS against him. Choi comes into this game with a .267 average with 10 HR’s and 31 RBI’s over 55 games played. Choi has been looking better and better at the plate since getting regular AB’s with the Rays and has crushed RHP this season to the tune of a .551 slugging percentage and .914 OPS. Pham comes into this game with a .261 average with 17 HR, 53 RBI’s, & 12 SB and has been great since joining the Rays, posting a .306 average/.914 OPS. Pham is hitting .320 in the month of September and has posted a respectable .789 OPS on the road this season.
We’ll also have a 2-man stack of Los Angeles Dodgers tonight in Justin Turner (3B) and Manny Machado (SS) in their match-up against the LHP Kyle Freeland of the Colorado Rockies. Freeland comes into this game with an impressive 2.96 ERA and 1.22 WHIP on the season, however, I’m not afraid to go against him tonight as he has given up 3 ER’s in two of his last three starts and has actually pitched worse on the road this season, posting a 3.51 ERA while allowing opponents to hit .253 against him. Freeman has seen plenty of the Dodgers this season and although he has pitched well, he has posted just a 4.26 ERA at Dodgers Stadium. Turner has really turned it on since coming back from a wrist injury and currently is hitting .324 on the season with 13 HR’s & 47 RBI’s. Turner crushes LHP and is doing it against this year posting a .354 average/.586 slugging percentage/1.049 OPS vs. LHP. Turner has seen Freeland well over his career as he is 11 for 20 agianst with 3 doubles and a triple. Manny Machado is having another monster season as the slugging shortstop comes into this game with a .296 average with 35 HR’s and 96 RBI’s on the season. Machado has an impressive .549 slugging percentage/.945 OPS vs. LHP on the season and has a .864 OPS at Dodgers Stadium on the season.
Behind the backstop tonight, we’re going to be going with Cincinnati’s Tucker Barnhart (C) who will be up against the RHP Chase Anderson of the Milwaukee Brewers. Anderson comes into this game with a 3.85 ERA and 1.17 WHIP on the season, however, has had some trouble with the HR ball this season (1.7 HR/9 ratio) and has allowed 4 HR’s over 17.1 IP to the Cincinnati Reds this season. Barnhart comes into this game with just a .247 average, however, does have some pop in his bat as he has 9 HR’s and 44 RBI’s on the season. Barnhart has 8 of his 9 HR’s as an LHB on the season and is 4 for 13 (.308 average) with a double and 3 RBI’s in his career.
Completing the infield tonight will be Baltimore’s Jonathan Villar (2B) in his match-up agianst the RHP Aaron Sanchez of the Toronto Blue Jays. Sanchez comes into this game with a 4.90 ERA and 1.55 WHIP on the season and has really struggled agianst LHB’s, allowing them to post a .289 average/.867 OPS. Villar has really picked it up since joining the Orioles and comes into this game with a .268 average with 14 HR’s, 45 RBI’s and 28 SB’s. Villar has a .346 average vs. the Blue Jays on the season and is hitting .305 so far in the month of September. We like Villar as he certainly has the power to get us a HR, however, his speed is his main weapon and if he can get on base agianst Sanchez, I think he can get us a SB or two tonight.
In the OF, we’re going to try and ride the hot hand of Pablo Reyes (OF) of the Pittsburgh Pirates in his in his matchup agianst the LHP Eric Skoglund of the Kansas City Royals. Skoglund has struggled in his 10 starts this season as he comes into this game with a 6.19 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. Skoglund is allowing RHB’s to post a .280 average/.841 OPS agianst him and has posted a 7.15 ERA on the road this season. Reyes was recently called up from the minors and has been outstanding for the Pirates as he has posted three consecutive 2-hit games and is 8 for 18 in his young MLB career. Reyes should be getting the start as the Pirates are going up agianst an LHP and will likely be seeing some regular playing time if the Pirates Adam Frazier is out any time after fouling a ball of his knee last night.
Completing the team tonight, we’re going to go with San Diego’s Franmil Reyes (OF) in his match-up against the LHP Derek Holland of the San Francisco Giants. Holland has pitched well for the Giants this season, posting a 3.46 ERA and 1.26 WHIP, however, has struggled agianst the Padres as he has allowed 8 ER’s over 14.2 IP (3 HR’s) in three starts. Reyes is really underpriced on DraftKings in my opinion as in just 76 games this season, the slugging RHB has posted a .276 average with 15 HR’s and 24 RBI’s. Reyes is hitting .381 over the past week and has posted an incredible .349 average/.619 slugging percentage/1.050 OPS vs. LHP on the season.
Please check back later as we’ll make any necessary updates to the lineup due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
