Update (6:13 PM) - Keeping the original lineup! Image updated! Good Luck!
Hi Everyone! Let’s check out who we have going today for today’s 7-game “Featured” slate that starts at 7:05pm tonight.
We’re going to be taking a chance on the mound tonight as we’re going to fade Max Scherzer and take our chances with the Mets LHP Jason Vargas (P) and the Braves Kevin Gausman (P). Vargas comes into his match-up agianst the Nationals with just a 6.47 ERA and 1.54 WHIP however, has pitched better as of late as has allowed 2 or less ER’s in 5 of his last 6 starts. Vargas has posted a 4.54 ERA while allowing hitters to post just a .247 average since the All-Star break and actually has a respectable 7.9 K/9 ratio on the season. There is no doubt that Vegas is a huge risk, however, his price will allow us to pay up for some decent bats tonight and he also just came off a great start against the Nationals in which he went 6.0 innings giving up 0 runs on 3 hits while striking out 8. Gausman comes into this game with a 3.92 ERA and 1.30 WHIP and has been great since getting traded to the Braves as he has posted a 2.61 ERA. Gausman is holding his opponents to just a .235 average since the All-Star break and has a plus match-up against the Phillies who currently rank 27th in MLB in terms of batting average vs. RHP (.239) and 29th in strikeout rate (9.35 K/9).
We are going to attack the White Sox/Indians match-up tonight as both teams will be facing very hittable pitchers with the wind blowing out hard to CF tonight in Cleveland.
For the Indians, we’re going with a 3-man stack of Edwin Encarnacion (1B), Jose Ramirez (3B), and Francisco Lindor (SS) in their match-up agianst the RHP James Shields of the Chicago White Sox. Shields comes into this game with a 4.53 ERA and 1.30 WHIP however, has struggled over his past two starts as he has allowed 8 ER’s (4 HR’s) over his last 10.1 IP. Shields has allowed his opponents to hit .279 over his three starts in September and as he has already allowed 31 HR’s on the season, I think he recent struggles continue tonight. Encarnacion has hit just .239 on the season however, there is no denying the 13-year veteran still has great power as he comes into this game with 31 HR’s and 99 RBI’s on the season. Encarnacion has hit RHP’s better on the season (.819 OPS) and does have 3 HR’s off Shields in his career. Ramirez is starting pick it up against after struggling as of late, and that is bad news for his opponents as he is currently posting a .280 average with 38 HR’s, 101 RBI’s & 33 SB’s. Ramirez has posted a 1.021 OPS vs. RHP on the season and has been great at home, posting a 1.025 OPS. Lindor comes into this game with a .281 average with 35 HR’s, 86 RBI’s, and 23 SB. Lindor is hitting .306 at home this season and has had solid success agianst James Shields in his career, posting a .462 average with a HR.
For the White Sox, we’re going to be going with a 3-man stack of Chicago White Sox in Omar Narvaez (C/1B), Yoan Moncada (2B), and Daniel Palka (OF) in their matchup agianst Josh Tomlin of the Cleveland Indians. Tomlin is starting again for the Indians and that is great news for DFS players as he comes into this game with a 6.49 ERA and 1.51 WHIP on the season. Tomlin is allowing his opponents to post a .306 average/.975 OPS and has been really hurt by the HR ball this season as he has a crazy 3.5 HR/9 ratio. Narvaez has had a solid season as he comes into this game with a .276 average with 8 HR’s and 28 RBI’s. Narvaez is hitting .364 over the past week and has a .841 OPS vs. RHP on the season. Moncada hasn’t had the year at the plate as many were expecting as he is hitting just .228, however, he has shown some decent power as he comes into this game with 17 HR’s and 58 RBI’s on the season. Moncada is hitting .318 over the past week and the switch-hitter has hit much better as an LHB as 15 of his 17 HR’s have come from that side of the plate. Palka comes in with just a .243 average, however, there is no denying that he has some of the best power on the White Sox as he currently has 26 HR’s on the season. Palka has posted a .375 average over the past week with 4 HR’s and has a .842 OPS vs. RHP.
Rounding out the team tonight, we’re going to be going with Tampa Bay’s Tommy Pham (OF) and Brandon Lowe (OF) in their matchup agianst the RHP Sam Gaviglio of the Toronto Blue Jays. Gaviglio comes into this game with a 5.25 ERA and 1.44 WHIP on the season and has struggled as of late, allowing 11 ER’s (4 HR’s) in his last 13.1 IP. Gaviglio is allowing his opponents to post a .284 average/.818 OPS and has posted a 6.00 ERA since the All-Star break. Pham comes into this game with a .266 average with 19 HR’s & 15 RBI’s and has been solid since joining the Rays, posting a .327 average. Pham has posted a .809 OPS during “night” games and has a .429 average agianst the Blue Jays on the season. Lowe comes into this game with just a .240 average, however, he has shown some decent power in his young career as he has 5 HR’s & 19 RBI’s over his first 33 games. Lowe has a .811 OPS vs. RHP and has had some extra value as of late, hitting our of the 5-hole for the Rays.
Please check back as I’ll make any necessary changes to the lineup due to “confirmed lineups” and/or weather.
