DFS – Fantasy Football - NFL DraftKings Lineup, Picks & Advice – Week 3 – 9/23/18
Updated (12:29 PM) - Updated the lineup! Image is posted below! Good Luck!
Football season is back and let’s start the season off right as we look at the Sunday “Main” slate that features 13 games and starts at 1:00 pm (EST)!
QB – Jimmy Garoppolo (SF) – Now that Patrick Mahomes is the highest salary QB, we’re going to go away with him and go with his direct competition on Sunday in the 49ers Jimmy Garoppolo. Garoppolo looked more like himself last week as after a tough opening game on the road against the Vikings, he was solid last week completing 18 of 26 passes for 206 yards and 2 TD in a 30-27 victory over the Detroit Lions. I love this match-up for Garoppolo as we can expect the 49ers to fall behind early in this one and will need to depend on Garoppolo’s arm against the Kansas City defense that ranks dead last in the NFL in passing defense allowing 430.0 passing yds/g. Garoppolo has shown that even with limited weapons on the offense that he can put up big numbers and I think he is going to be one of the top QB’s on the slate tomorrow.
RB – Latavius Murray (MIN) – I’m a big fan of Latavius Murray of the Vikings in his match-up against the Bills. Murray will be the lead back this Sunday as Dalvin Cook will be out of this contest due to a hamstring injury. Murray was very productive for the Vikings last season when Cook was lost for the season due to an ACL injury and now that he doesn’t have to worry about splitting carries with Jerick McKinnon, we could even see better results this season. I really like Murray over Bernard due to his match-up against the Bills that rank 22nd in rushing defense (113.0 yds/g). The Vikings should have this game well in hand early which will lead for additional touches for Murray after seeing Melvin Gordon get into the end zone three times last week, I think Murray has a big game on Sunday.
RB – Giovani Bernard (CIN) – Similar to Latavius Murray, Giovani Bernard will be in a great spot on Sunday as he will be the lead back as the Bengals will be without Joe Mixon due to a knee injury. Bernard has always flashed a ton of big play potential however, has never really had that much of an opportunity to be the main guy in the backfield as he split time with Jeremy Hill & Joe Mixon in the pass. Bernard might have a tough time finding holes against a solid Panthers defense, however, Bernard is much more dangerous in the passing game which he should be heavily a part of. Bernard gave us a taste of his potential at the end of last season against the Tigers in which he rushed for 116 yards and a TD while also having 7 receptions for 52 yards and as I think he’ll have at least 7 catches again, he should be able to hit value where his price is set this week.
WR – Michael Thomas (NO) – If the ball isn’t going to Alvin Kamara for the Saints, it’s been going to Michael Thomas who looks as if he is ready to become one of the top receivers in the NFL after racking up 269 receiving yards & 3 TD on 28 receptions over his first two games. The Falcons came into this season with one of the higher ranked defensive backfield, however, they suffered a tough season ending injury to Keanu Neal in their season opener and will be without a few key defensive ends in Takkarist McKinley & Derrick Shelby which should give Brees some more time to find Thomas. Thomas has been targeted an incredible 30 times over his first two games of the season and I don’t see any reason why that type of production should slow down this Sunday.
WR – Nelson Agholor (PHI) – Philadelphia is going to be thrilled to have Carson Wentz back behind center and although there is a chance he is a bit rusty, I’m going to roll with Agholor outside of Ertz, he is the only real threat currently in the Eagles passing game. Agholor has been very productive early in the season as he currently has 121 receiving yards and a TD on 16 receptions over his first two games. We really like Agholor’s match-up this week as the Eagles will be up against the Indianapolis Colts who rank just 18th in the NLF in terms of passing defense at 249.0 yds/g. Agholor saw double-digit targets in both games to start the season and as there is a lot of questions with the Eagles backfield coming into this game, I expect to see Agholor as a major contributor to the Eagles offense on Sunday.
WR – Tyler Boyd (CIN) – Tyler Boyd is never going to be the top receiver on an NFL team, however, he is a solid number two receiver behind A.J. Green in Cincinnati and I just think he has too much value his price to pass up on this Sunday. Boyd has seen 14 targets this season and has turned in a productive stat line this season as he has 117 receiving yards and a TD on 9 receptions. Carolina has been tough against the pass early on this season, currently rank 8th in the NFL (205.0 yds/g), however, I think this is perfect opportunity for Boyd to have another big game as the Panthers will be focused on trying to stop A.J. Green. Boyd is certainly a bit of risk, however, as he has seen at least 5 targets in both games this year and looks at bit more polished as a receiver in his 3rd year in the NFL, I think he is a solid play if you’re looking to save money at the WR position.
TE – George Kittle (SF) – As I mentioned that I think Garoppolo and the 49ers passing offense will be in for a big day, I wanted to at least get one of the Garoppolo’s main targets in my line and that will be TE George Kittle. Kittle has 112 receiving yards on 7 receptions this season but as we’ve already mentioned, the 49ers will be going up against the Kansas City passing defense that ranks dead last in the NFL and also made Pittsburgh’s TE Jesse James look like Rob Gronkowski after he had 5 receptions for 138 yards and a TD against them last week. Kittle has a team high 13 targets this season and I expect that trend to continue this Sunday.
FLEX – Matt Breida (SF) – The 49ers backfield was a big question mark going into the season after Jerick McKinnon went down with a season ending injury, however, I think the 49ers found their answer last week after Breida had a huge game going for 138 rushing yards and a TD on just 11 carries. Breida will still have to split some carries with Alfred Morris, however, Breida is more of the passing back for the 49ers and I expect him to be on the find a bunch more with the 49ers most likely playing from behind. We’ve already mentioned how the Kansas City Chiefs have struggled defensively this season as we’re rolling with Garoppolo at QB, I didn’t mind stacking Brieda at his price this week.
DEF – Los Angeles Rams – I didn’t have enough salary for the Jaguars or Vikings who have great match-ups however, I’m certainly not disappointed will rolling with the Rams defense at home against the Los Angeles Charges. The Rams come into this game ranked 3rd in the NFL in terms of total yards allowed (266.0 yds/g) and has looked extremely tough against both Oakland and Buffalo this season. The Rams front seven should be able to create pressure to cause a decent amount of sacks against Phillip Rivers and as I think Rivers will be forcing some of the action on the offensive end as I believe the Rams will build up the lead, I think the Rams could be in for a nice day when it comes to creating turnovers.
Please check back Sunday as we’ll make any necessary adjustments due to “confirmed lineups”.
