Update (6:09 PM) - Keeping with the original lineup! Image is updated below. Good Luck!
Hi Everyone! It was not that successful of a night for us as we loaded up on both KC and SEA offenses in their outstanding match-ups and outside of Adalberto Mondesi of the Royals, didn’t get the production we were looking for. Let’s get back on track and take a look at the 13-game “Featured” slate that starts at 7:05pm tonight!
As we’ve been mentioning all week, remember that we need to pay extra attention to when the “confirmed lineups” as the majority of the teams post season fate has been determined and will be utilizing unique lineups the rest of the way!
As for the weather, everything looks good tonight as of this morning.
On the mound tonight, we’re going to be going with the Marlins Jose Urena (P) and the Royals Ian Kennedy (P). Urena comes into this match-up agianst the New York Mets tonight with a 4.07 ERA & 1.37 WHIP and has been lights out as of late, as over his past four starts, he has allowed just 3 ER’s. Urena is holding his opponents to just a .210 batting average in his 11 starts sine the All-Star break and faces a Mets team that ranks just 26th in MLB in terms of batting average vs. RHP (.239). Urena doesn’t strike out a bunch of people as he has just a 6.9 K/9 ratio however, he has piled up 12 K’s over 16.2 IP vs. the Mets this season. Urena has allowed 1 or less ER in 6 of his last 7 starts and is currently posting an incredible 1.13 ERA & 0.79 WHIP in the month of September. Kennedy has had a decent season as he comes into his match-up against the Cleveland Indians with a 4.59 ERA & 1.39 WHIP and has pitched great since coming off the DL as over his last three starts, he has gone 20 innings while giving up just 4 ER. Cleveland is a tough match-up, however, the Indians haven’t hit that great on the road this season (.249 average) and have struggled with Kennedy in the past as the current roster is only hitting .257 against him. Kennedy has a respectable 8.2 K/9 ratio and shut down the Indians earlier this season as he went 6.0 innings, giving up no runs while striking out 8. Kansas City has been playing well at home as of late and as I think Kennedy has a great chance to be a solid, low-owned play tonight.
On the offensive side, we like the Braves tonight in their match-up against the RHP Jerad Eickhoff of the Phillies and going to go with a 3-man stack of Ozzie Albies (2B), Johan Camargo (3B) and Ronald Acuna Jr. (OF). Eickhoff has missed the majority of the season due to injury and in his two appearances out of the bullpen so far this season, he hasn’t looked good as he has allowed 5 hits & 2 ER’s over just 2.0 IP. Over 24 starts last year, Eickhoff allowed opponents to hit .281 against him and has allowed the current Braves roster to post a .821 OPS against him. Albies comes into this game with a .264 average with 24 HR’s, 72 RBI’s, & 13 SB. I like having a switch-hitter in this match-up as I think we’ll be seeing a bunch of Philadelphia pitchers tonight and do like his HR-upside as he has 16 HR’s as a LHB on the season. Johan Camargo has come a long way this year as the switch-hitting 3B currently has a .270 average on the season with 18 HR’s & 45 RBI’s. Camargo has crushed the Phillies this season to the tune of a .350 average and has hits in 5 of his last 6 games. Acuna Jr. has been incredible this season as since being called up to the majors, the top prospect in all of MLB has posted a .290 average with 26 HR’s, 61 RBI’s, & 16 SB’s. Acuna Jr. is hitting .300 over the past week and has posted a .544 slugging percentage/.899 OPS vs. RHP on the season.
We are going back to Seattle, even though they disappointed us last night, and going with a 2-man stack of Mike Zunino (C) and Nelson Cruz (OF) in their match-up against the LHP Martin Perez of the Texas Rangers. It’s been a tough year for Perez as over his 21 appearances (14 starts), he has posted a 6.13 ERA & 1.75 WHIP. Perez has been worse on the road this season (6.64 ERA) and comes into this game allowing his opponents to post a .330 average/.915 OPS. Zunino comes into this game with just a .203 average, however, has shown his power this year as he currently has 20 HR’s & 44 RBI’s. Zunino has been on a tear as of late, hitting .412 (7-17) over the past week and has owned Perez in his career as he is 6 for 14 (.429 average) with 3 HR’s agianst the left-hander. Cruz comes into this game with a .259 average with 37 HR’s & 96 RBI’s. Cruz has struggled a bit as of late, however, he has posted a .923 OPS vs. LHP on the season and has also had a lot of success agianst Perez as he has posted a .300 average (9-30) with 3 HR’s.
We like the Rays C.J. Cron (1B) in his solid match-up agianst the LHP Tommy Pannone of the Toronto Blue Jays. Pannone hasn’t been awful for the Blue Jays as he has a 3.58 ERA & 1.12 WHIP over 11 appearances (5 starts), however, the rookie LHP has really struggled with HR’s as he has allowed 5 HR’s in his last three starts and comes into this game with a 1.7 HR/9 ratio. Cron comes into this game with just a .255 average, however, has shown off his great power this season as he currently has 29 HR’s & 72 RBI’s on the season. Cron is hitting .286 with 2 HR’s over the past week and currently has a .906 OPS vs. LHP.
Rounding out our infield tonight will be Minnesota’s Jorge Polanco (SS) in his match-up agianst the RHP Lucas Giolito of the Chicago White Sox. It’s been a disappointing season for Giolito as the former top prospect comes into this game with a 5.81 ERA & 1.44 WHIP on the season. Giolito is allowing opponents to hit .291 against him in the month of September and has been really hurry by the HR ball this season, as he currently has a 1.4 HR/9 ratio. Polanco, who missed a lot of the season due to a suspension, comes into this game with a .290 average with 6 HR’s & 40 RBI’s. Polanco is hitting .320 over the past week and has been outstanding as an LHB this season, posting a .323 average/.861 OPS.
Completing the team tonight, will be the Milwaukee Brewers Ryan Braun (OF) in his match-up agianst the RHP Jordan Zimmerman of the Detroit Tigers. Milwaukee is still playing for a chance to win the NL Central so they should be ready to go against Zimmerman who comes into this game with a 4.31 ERA & 1.23 WHIP. Zimmerman has allowed 26 HR’s on the season and has struggled recently as over his last three starts he has allowed 11 ER’s (5 HR’s) over 15.2 IP. Braun comes into this game with a .249 average with 18 HR’s & 59 RBI’s on the season. Braun is still a very good hitter and has been playing well as of late as over the past week, he is hitting .294 with 3 HR’s.
