DFS – Fantasy Baseball – MLB DraftKings Lineup, Picks & Advice – 9/30/18
Hi Everyone! It’s the last day of the MLB regular season so let’s try to end it on a good note as we take a look at the 15-game “Featured” slate that starts at 3:05 today.
It’s going to be an interesting day with basically the only teams that are still playing for something will be the Cubs, Brewers, Rockies & Dodgers. We’ll have to take a close look at the starting lineups to ensure that all the regular players are playing, however, it’s going to be difficult to know how long they’ll play today so for the bigger bats, it’s important to probably stick with the players in the games that mean something today.
On the mound today, we’re going to be going with a value pick in Miami’s Sandy Alcantara (P) and pay up a bit for Arizona’s Kevin Gausman (P). Alcantara has struggled in his last two starts, both against Washington, however, still has flashed some great potential over his five starts this season and currently is posting a 4.00 ERA & 1.56 WHIP. Alcantara is holding his opponents to just a .226 average/.398 slugging percentage and has a very solid fastball/change-up combination. Alcantara has a solid match-up agianst the New York Mets that rank 25th in terms of batting average vs. RHP (.239) and 20th in team strikeout rate (8.65 K/game). Alcantara was solid against the Mets a few starts ago (7.0 IP, 2 ER, 6 K) and I think he has the upside to be a great value play today. Gausman comes into this game with a 3.93 ERA & 1.29 WHIP on the season and has been outstanding since joining the Braves, posting a 2.80 ERA over 9 starts. Gausman is holding their opponents to just a .264 average and has a decent match-up against the Philadelphia Phillies who rank just 28th in MLB in terms of batting average vs. RHP (.235). Gausman has a career 8.1 K/9 ratio and could pile up some quick strikeouts tonight as the Phillies rank just 28th in team strikeout rate (9.37 K/game). Gausman might not go deep into the game with Atlanta’s playoff position sealed, but the match-up is great today and I think he can guess us enough points to make him worth the pick.
With the value we’re saving with Sandy Alcantara, we’re able to pay up for a solid 4-man Milwaukee stack, in Travis Shaw (2B), Mike Moustakas (3B), Christian Yelich (OF), and Ryan Braun (OF) in their match-up against the RHP Spencer Turnbull of the Detroit Tigers. Turnbull has made three appearances (2 starts) on the season and hasn’t been great as he comes into this game with a 5.73 ERA & 1.27 WHIP. Turnbull is allowing his opponents to hit .273 against him and is allowing LHB’s to post a .286 average against him. Shaw is hitting just .240 on the season however, has shown solid power as he comes into this game with 31 HR’s & 85 RBI’s. Shaw has been outstanding at home this season, posting a .853 OPS and also has a .896 OPS vs. RHP. Moustakas comes into this game with a .251 average with 28 HR’s & 94 RBI’s and has been solid as of late, hitting .300 over the past week. Moustakas has also fared well against RHP, posting a .801 OPS. Yelich has pulled away with the MVP race as now comes into this game with a .324 average with 36 HR’s, 109 RBI’s, & 21 SB’s. Yelich is hitting .444 over the past week with 5 HR’s and over the first two games of this series is 3 for 5 with 3 HR’s, 5 RBI’s, and 3 BB’s. Braun is hitting just .251 on the season however, still has shown some decent power, posting 20 HR’s & 61 RBI’s. Braun is hitting .316 with 5 HR’s over the past week and has posted a .816 OPS at home this season.
We have a 2-man stack of Minnesota Twins in Jorge Polanco (SS) and Jake Cave (OF) in their match-up agianst the RHP Dylan Covey of the Chicago White Sox. Covey has pitched well over his last two games, however, still comes into this game with a 5.06 ERA & 1.50 WHIP on the season. Covey is allowing his opponents to hit .270 against him on the season and struggled in his one relief appearance agianst the Twins earlier this season, allowing 2 hits, 3 walks, & 2 ER’s over just 2.2 IP. Polanco comes into this game with a .291 average with 6 HR’s & 42 RBI’s (76 games) and has been solid as of late, posting a .355 average over the past week. The switch-hitting Polanco has posted a .854 OPS as an LHB and is hitting .318 in the month of September. Cave has been a nice find for the Twins this season and comes into this game with a .269 average with 12 HR’s & 44 RBI’s. Cave is hitting .409 over the past week 3 doubles and a HR and has posted a .323 average at home this season.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have a solid match-up against the RHP Sal Romano of the Cincinnati Reds and we’re going to be getting Josh Bell (1B) in our lineups. It’s been a long season for Romano as he comes into this game with a 5.37 ERA & 1.45 WHIP on the season. Romano has really struggled agianst LHB’s this season as he is allowing them to post a .307 average/.912 OPS. The switch-hitting Bell comes into this game with a .262 average with 11 HR’s & 61 RBI’s on the season. Bell has struggled a bit as of late, however, Bell has been stronger as an LHB on the season and is 4 for 10 lifetime agianst Romano.
Rounding out the team, we’re going to take a “punt” play in the Tiger’s James McCann (C) in his match-up agianst the LHP Gio Gonzalez of the Brewers. Gonzalez has been solid for the Nationals since joining them a few starts ago, however, still comes into this game with a 4.34 ERA & 1.46 WHIP. Gonzalez has struggled against RHB’s as he has posted a .269 average/.778 OPS. It’s been a disappointing season for the McCann as he is hitting just .220, however, he does have 8 HR’s & 39 RBI’s. McCann has hit .455 over the past week and as he is hitting 6th in the batting order at a hitter park, I think he is worth the chance this afternoon.
