NBA – Fantasy Basketball – DraftKings Lineup, Picks & Advice – 10/16/18
Hi everyone! NBA season has arrived and we got a 2-game slate to kick off our season tonight.
Similar to baseball, I’ve been an avid NBA DFS player of the past few years and this will be the first season in which I’ll be doing my best to provide you with my lineups & advice.
I’ve yet to write about the NBA however, as the starting lineups are generally not released until moments before the contests start, I’ll do my best to make any necessary updates to my lineup and will post them on my twitter handle (@BrettCU05). I’ll also post any updates on the Sports Chat Place Facebook page and Fantasy Group page.
Let’s take a look at who we have going tonight!
PG – Kyrie Irving (BOS) - $7,600 – Kyrie Irving looks like he is good to go and although it’s going to be interesting to see how Brad Stevens and the Celtics distribute minutes among their many offense stars, Irving is probably the safest best when it comes to the DFS world as he’ll be the playmaker among the Boston offensive weapons. Irving was outstanding in his first full season with the Celtics as over his 60 games played, the dynamic point guard averaged 24.4 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 5.1 apg, & 1.1 spg. Philadelphia doesn’t have anyone that can really slow down Irving as he averaged 25. Ppg, 5.3 rpg, & 4.7 apg in his 3 games against the 76ers last season and as he is coming a career best in FG% (49.1%), I expect Irving to hit solid value at this price point tonight.
SG - Stephen Curry (GS) - $8,600 – Stephen Curry continues to be one of the most explosive scorers in the NBA and is coming off a stellar season in which he put up 26.4 ppg, 6.1 apg, 5.1 rpg, & 1.6 spg. Curry and the Warriors have a listed over/under of 221.5 and a crazy implied scoring total of 117.5 tonight and although Oklahoma defended the point guard position well last season, they will still be without one of their best defenders in Andre Robertson. Curry shot 42.3% from three-point land last season and I expect to see him putting up and making plenty of three’s tonight.
SF - Kevin Durant (GS) - $9,000 – Kevin Durant vs. Oklahoma City is always a fun match-up to watch as we know Durant loves sticking to his old team. Durant is a top-5 player in the league and is coming off another monster season in which he averaged 26.4 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 5.4 apg, & 1.8 bpg. Durant was outstanding last season hitting the three-pointer as he shot the 2nd best 3P% in his career at 41.9% and really picked it up on the defensive end as the 1.8 bpg was a career best. Durant will be facing Paul George on the defensive end, however, it didn’t seem to slow him down last season as he averaged 29.0 ppg & 6.5 rpg over 4 games against the Thunder.
PF - Paul George (OKC) - $8,000 – With Russell Westbrook not being 100% and Carmelo Anthony no longer with the Thunder, George is in a prime spot tonight for a monster game in what should by a high-tempo, high-scoring affair. George surprised many people with opting to stay with Oklahoma City over the off-season and I’m expecting to see more of the Paul George we saw in his last two seasons with Indiana when he averaged about 23.5 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 3.8 apg & 1.8 spg. George has the ability to fill the stat sheet and if the Thunder have any chance of staying in this game agianst Golden State, he’ll need to do so tonight.
C - Nerlens Noel (OKC) - $3,600 – Noel gets another fresh start with a new team this season and with the recent status of Stephen Adams being questionable, could give Noel some of the best value on the slate tonight. Noel has never lived up to his potential but this is still a young talented player who has been able to stuff the stat sheet when given the opportunity. Noel played 34 minutes in the Thunders last pre-season game last week and posted a solid overall line of 7 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, & 3 steals. Even if Adams plays, I still expect Noel to get some decent minutes in this one and if he can get some blocks/steals, it won’t take much for Noel to hit value.
G - Dennis Schroder (OKC) - $6,300 – Schroder will be his first appearance with his new team and Schroder has the potential to make a great first impression with his match-up against the Golden State Warriors. Schroder has huge upside and will most likely be a chalk play if Westbrook sits, however, even if Westbrook plays, I like the scrappy guard from France who last season averaged 19.4 ppg, 6.2 apg, 3.1 rpg, & 1.1 spg. Schroder always seems to raise his level of play when he is going against the leagues best and this was no different last season as in his two games agianst Golden State, he averaged 21.5 ppg, 4.0 rpg, & 8.0 apg.
F – Patrick Patterson (OKC) - $3,800 – The power forward starting spot for the Thunder has been up for grabs all pre-season however between Patterson & Jarami Grant, however, I think Patterson will get he start tonight largely as his long-range shooting will be needed for the Thunder to be able to hang with the Warriors. Patterson struggled with his shot a bit in the pre-season however, this is a solid veteran who is a respectable career 37.0% three-point shooter from beyond the arc. Patterson is in his 2nd year with OKC and should have a bigger role this year and as I think he’ll have some open looks with the attention that George and Westbrook (if he plays) gets, I think he can hit value at a min price tonight.
C – Damian Jones (GSW) - $3,000 – Damian Jones, the 2nd year player out of Vanderbilt, used a strong pre-season to earn the starting center job for the Warriors. As we all know, this doesn’t mean that he is going to see a bunch of minutes, however, as we have just $3,000 left, we could do much worse then getting a starter on a team that has an implied scoring total of 117.5 tonight. Jones finished his preseason strong with a 16-point, 6 rebound, 2 assist, 1 steal performance against the Lakers last Friday and if he can just put together a few early baskets and rebounds, I’ll be happy.
