NBA – Fantasy Basketball – DraftKings Lineup, Picks & Advice – 10/17/18
Update (6:14 PM) - Made some changes to get Harden in the lineup. Len has been upgraded to probable so I'm going to roll with him with Atlanta missing a few players in their frontcourt. Good Luck!
It was a decent start to our NBA season last night as we hit both our GPP’s & 50/50’s with our 278.00-point performance last night.
As you know, the NBA is a bit harder to update prior to the games as many of the starting lineups/final injury reports aren’t made available until minutes before tip-off (i.e. Stephen Adams from last night) so I’ll do my best to provide updates. The best way to receive any updates is following me on my twitter handle (@BrettCU05) or following the Sports Chat Place Facebook page and Fantasy Group page.
Let’s take a look at who we have going on the 11-game slate tonight!
PG – Dennis Smith Jr. (Dal) - $7,000 – Dennis Smith Jr. is coming into this 2nd year in the NBA and we can only expect that the talented young point guard will continue to improve on his 15.2 ppg, 5.2 apg, 3.8 rpg, 1.0 spg state line he put up in his rookie season last year. Smith has been outstanding in the pre-season as shot 47.8% from the field and comes in with one of the better match-ups of the night against the Phoenix Suns. Phoenix ranked dead last in team defense last season as they are generally more focused on their fast break than their defense and as I just don’t see how Isaiah Canaan being able to remotely slow down Smith Jr., I think Smith Jr. will easily hit value tonight.
SG - Trey Burke (NY) - $5,600 – Burke has some of the best value on the slate tonight as New York comes into this game without Emmanuel Mudiay & Kristaps Porzingis and most likely Courtney Lee who is doubtful. Burke hasn’t been outstanding during the preseason, but with everyone out for the Knicks including the fact that no longer have Beasley on the roster, the Knicks will be relying on Burke to be a major part of the offense tonight against an Atlanta Hawks team that rated just 24th in defensively last season. Burke was outstanding towards the end of last season when he was playing 30+ minutes a game as he scored in double-digits in 10 of his last 11 games which included a monster 42-point, 12-assist performance against Charlotte. Burke has much upside as anyone on the slate and should have plenty of opportunity to put up a solid line tonight.
SF - Josh Richardson (MIA) - $6,300 – Miami is going to have some outstanding value tonight as they are going to be missing a bunch of regulars in Dion Waiters, Justice Winslow, Wayne Ellington, & James Johnson to go along with Goran Dragic not being at 100%. This opens the door for a ton of minutes and production for Josh Richardson who has a solid season last year, averaging 12.9 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 2.9 apg, & 1.5 spg. Richardson was outstanding in his last two preseason games, as he averaged 24.5 ppg on 57.1% shooting from the field (16-28 FG; 6-11 3PG) on 30.5 minutes per game. Richardson was great in the playoffs last season for the Heat, dropping a 43.25-point performance against the 76ers and as Richardson has the ability to pile up the steals, I think he is almost a must play for the number of minutes he’ll be on the floor tonight.
PF - Kelly Olynyk (MIA) - $6,100 – As I mentioned under Josh Richardson, Miami is going to be missing a ton of players tonight and as James Johnson is one of them, I expect Kelly Olynyk to have a big game for the Heat tonight. Olynyk is interesting DFS player as although he averaged just 11.5 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 2.7 apg last season, he seems to be able to fill out the stat sheet when he gets 30+ minutes of action. Olynyk was outstanding in the playoffs last season against the 76ers which included a monster 45-DK point performance in their elimination game (18 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, 1 block). I expect Olynyk to see plenty of action tonight which should bode well as he averaged 10.5 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 2.3 apg, & 1.0 spg in an average of just 22.5 minutes in his 4 games agianst Orlando last season.
C – Nikola Vucevic (ORL) - $7,100 – Nikola Vucevic can be one of the more frustrating DFS players in the NBA as he always has the potential for a complete flop of a game, however, when the big-man has his shot rolling, he also is capable for huge nights and I think for this price, he is worth the shot tonight. Vucevic finished last season averaging 16.5 ppg, 9.2 rpg, 3.4 apg, 1.1 bpg, & 1.0 spg while shooting 47.5% from the field & 81.9% from the FT-line. Vucevic has a nice touch from the outside and put up a solid stat line in his only game agianst the Heat last season, as he went for 19.0 points, 12 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 blocks, & 2 steals.
G – Luka Doncic (DAL) - $6,700 – Luka Doncic has been getting high praise out of Dallas so far and we’re not afraid to pay up for the rookie tonight in his great match-up agianst the Phoenix Suns. Doncic is as NBA-ready as any rookie with his solid international experience and looked great in the preseason as he averaged 15.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.3 bpg, & 1.5 spg. Dallas will need to rely from immediate production from Doncic this season, especially as they will be without Harrison Barnes tonight, and as I just don’t see the Phoenix backcourt being able to slow down Doncic or Smith Jr., I love playing both of them tonight.
F – Tobias Harris (LAC) - $7,000 – Tobias Harris gets a great match-up agianst the Denver Nuggets to start off the season and comes into this season as arguably the top overall player for the Clippers. Harris was outstanding for Los Angeles after being involved in the Blake Griffin deal as in his 32 games with the Clippers, he averaged 19.3 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.2 stl. The Clippers are expected to score plenty tonight with their 114 implied point total and I don’t expect Denver improving on their 23rd ranked defense from last season, I think Harris opens his season with a solid overall night.
UTIL – E’Twaun Moore - $4,100 – I needed to get some action in the NO/HOU game that features a current over/under of 229 and I think we have some great value in NO E’Twaun Moore. Moore should be starting at the small forward position tonight for the Hornets and generally can get a lot of open looks as defense focus on Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday. Moore finished last season with decent numbers as he averaged 12.5 ppg, 2.3 apg, 2.9 rpg, & 1.0 spg and was very productive agianst the Rockets last season as he averaged 16.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.8 apg, & 1.0 spg in 4 games agianst Houston.
