NBA – Fantasy Basketball – FanDuel Lineup, Picks & Advice – 10/18/18
Update (7:17 PM) - Made some updates. Decided to go against LeBron which could be a big mistake however, I like the balance I'm getting between the SF, PF, & C positions and just have to hope that either Hart or McGruder can get us a 20-point night. Good Luck!
It was an underwhelming performance for us last night as our 236.5-point performance wasn’t enough to get it done in either of our 50/50’s & GPP’s. We paid up for James Harden & Giannis Antetokounmpo but our value plays just really didn’t come through and I don’t even want to talk about Kelly Olynyk who was a major disappointment with his dismal 4.2-point performance.
As you know, the NBA is a bit harder to update prior to the games as many of the starting lineups/final injury reports aren’t made available until minutes before tip-off so I’ll do my best to provide updates. The best way to receive any updates is following me on my twitter handle (@BrettCU05) or following the Sports Chat Place Facebook page and Fantasy Group page.
Let’s take a look at who we have going on the 3-game slate tonight!
Cameron Payne (CHI) - $4,000 – I didn’t originally have Payne in here but right when I finished my original lineup in which I had Rondo, the news just broke that Kris Dunn is out tonight due to personal reasons and that Payne will be getting the start. Payne finished last season averaging 8.8 ppg, 4.5 apg, 2.8 rpg & 1.0 spg and obviously gets a huge jump in value with Dunn’s absence. Payne is a solid defender which could reap some benefits tonight as although the 76ers are extremely talented, they do have problems protecting the basketball as they committed 16 turnovers in their loss agianst Boston. Payne should be a popular play now tonight, but I still trust him more than Rondo as we just don’t know how the Lakers will disturb their point-guard minutes.
Ben Simmons (PHI) - $11,000 – Simmons looked incredible in their season opener against the Celtics as the talented guard out of LSU finished the game with a stat line of 19 points, 15 rebounds, 8 assists, 4 steals, & 2 blocks. As a Celtics fan who watched this game, Simmons looked even better than what I saw from him last season as not only did he shoot 50.0% from the field (7-14), he was a monster on the defensive end. Simmons is averaging 15.8 ppg, 8.2 apg, 8.2 rpg in his young career and although there is a slight risk of the 76ers running away with this one as their favored by 11 currently over the Bulls, I think Simmons still gets his stats in this one and has triple-double upside any night he takes the court.
Rodney McGruder (MIA) - $3,500 – The Miami Heat are hurting with injuries in the backcourt with Dion Waiters, Justice Winslow, & Wayne Ellington all missing last nights season opener, and Rodney McGruder was the benefactor of this as he saw an impressive 32.0 minutes and posted a respectable 18.1-point performance with 8 points, 3 rebound, 3 assist & 1 block performance. McGruder obviously has some risk with him as we never know what Miami will do with their minutes, however, I think we can certainly save some money here as I expect to see another 20ish point performance by McGruder tonight agianst the Wizards.
Zach LaVine (CHI) - $6,800 – With the news of Kris Dunn being out, I decided that I wanted to spend up for Zach LaVine who will know be really heavily relied on to produce on the offensive end. LaVine is fully healthy coming into this season after missing the majority of last season due to an ACL injury and was impressive last season as in his 24 games, the high-flying guard averaged 16.7 ppg, 3.0 apg, 3.9 rpg, & 1.0 spg. LaVine put up 20+ points in three of his preseason contests and although he we do have to rely a bit more on his scoring to have a solid DFS night, I think we can expect him to put up at least 15-20 shots in what should be a fast-paced game agianst the 76ers.
LeBron James (LAL) - $11,700 – It’s going to be funny watching LeBron in a Lakers uniform tonight, however, I fully expect James to come out and put on a show for his new club in the season opener. James put up one of his best seasons of his amazing career last season as he finished the year averaging 27.5 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 8.6 rpg, & 1.4 spg. James was outstanding in his two games agianst the Trail Blazers last season as he posted an average of 29.5 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 7.0 apg, 2.0 bpg, & 3.0 spg and as I don’t see anyone being able to slow down James in this one, I’m thinking that he puts up a triple-double in this one.
Otto Porter Jr. (WAS) - $6,400 – I wanted to get at least one Wizards player in the lineup and why not go with the ever-efficient Otto Porter Jr. who just seems to have a knack of filling out a stat sheet. Porter Jr. had a nice season with the Wizards last year as he averaged 14.7 ppg, 2.0 apg, 6.4 rpg, & 1.5 spg and is coming off a preseason in which he shot an impressive 56.3% from the field and 42.1% from beyond the arc. Porter Jr. will be a tough match-up for the Heat who will most likely be without Justice Winslow and James Johnson and I just love his upside as he does have potential to go off for a 50+ FanDuel point night with his ability to rack of rebounds and steals.
Markieff Morris (WSH) - $5,000 – We’re taking a chance at PF today, as we’re spending down at the position so we can afford some of the bigger names at the other positions, however, I still do really like the value that Markieff Morris brings at just $5,000 tonight against the Heat. Morris has been a productive player for the Wizards as he finished last season averaging 11.5 ppg, 5.6 rpg, & 1.9 apg. Similar to Porter Jr., I think Morris will benefit with a banged Miami roster who are coming off the 2nd half of a back to back and as most of Miami’s attention will be on the Wizards backcourt of Wall and Beal, I see Morris getting some open opportunities tonight.
Zack Collins (POR) - $3,800 – Originally, prior to changing the lineup to get Payne and LaVine in the lineup after the news that Dunn is out broke, I had a more balanced lineup with really my only “punt” play being Rodney McGruder. At the same time, as I think McGruder is a relatively save option if Miami is missing so many of their player again, I decided to save salary with putting Zack Collins in there, fully expecting that he will be my low-score that doesn’t count. Collins will be backing up Al-Farouq Aminu however, after a strong showing in the pre-season (15 points, 10 rebounds in 31 min vs. SAC last Friday) I think he will be see some more minutes this season with the 2nd unit. Collins averaged just 4.4 ppg & 3.3 RPG but did see 15.8 mpg as a rookie and although I’m not expecting much, he could get some decent minutes tonight if Aminu gets in foul-trouble against Lebron.
Jusuf Nurkic (POR) - $7,800 – I imagine that Whiteside and Embiid will be the centers that will be primarily owned tonight, however, I think Nurkic is the play agianst the Lakers who have no one underneath the basket that will be able to stop them. It’s not that I don’t like Whiteside or Embiid tonight but I just don’t trust Whiteside on the 2nd half of a back to back and I just can’t afford Embiid as I already have Simmons & Lebron. Nurkic had a nice first full season with the Trail Blazers as he finished last season, averaging 14.3 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 1.8 apg, & 1.4 bpg. The Trail Blazers will need to rely on Nurkic to be a scoring option down low to help take some pressure of the backcourt of Lillard & McCollum and if Nurkic can stay out of foul-trouble, I see him going off for 45-50 points tonight.
Good Luck tonight!
