The top PG’s on the slate have some great matchups tonight and I’m going to go right to the top and roster Damian Lillard (PG) of the Portland Trailblazers in their matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers. Lillard has started this season playing some of the basketball of his career as he is averaging 29.1 ppg, 6.0 apg, & 5.1 rpg and you know he is going to have no trouble putting up points against the defense of either Ball or Rondo tonight. This game has the highest O/U on the slate and as I expect it to be close, I think we can expect a big game for Lillard tonight.
I had to change to my initial lineup around as while writing this article, the news broke that Goran Dragic is going to be out tonight. I was originally going to pay up for a 2nd PG, however, the value with Tyler Johnson (PG) agianst the Hawks is too good to pass up. The Hawks rank just 27th vs. the PG position so the matchup is great, and Johnson has looked decent in his last two starts as is averaging 11.5 ppg, 3 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.5 spg in 25.5 mpg.
I’m going to stay with the Heat as I think there is outstanding value with Rodney McGruder (SG) tonight agianst the Hawks. McGruder has been a nice surprise for the Heat this season as he is currently averaging 14.3 ppg, 3.7 apg, & 6.0 rpg in 34.1 mpg. McGruder has put up 30+ FanDuel points in 4 of his 8 games this season as the Hawks have really struggled agianst opposing backcourts, could have a big night as his usage should be a bit higher with Dragic out.
How good has DeMar DeRozan (SG) been for the Spurs this season! DeRozan has adjusted well with his new team this season as he comes into this game averaging 27.9 ppg, 7.3 apg, 5.7rpg & 1.3 spg. DeRozan has a decent matchup agianst the New Orleans Pelicans who give up a bunch of points and rank just 27th in team defense on the season. DeRozan is shooting an incredible 52.1% from the field this season and as this should be a close game, I can see 40 minutes from DeRozan tonight.
Anthony Davis is a question mark for the Pelicans tonight however, his status really shouldn’t have an affect on Nikola Mirotic (SF) who has shown this season that he can put up big numbers whether or not Davis is on the court. Mirotic is having his best season in the NBA this year as the 4-year veteran out of Yugoslavia is averaging 22.5 ppg, 10.3 rpg & 1.5 apg. Mirotic is putting up an average of 17.0 spg and as I think he has a better chance to go off for a big scoring night with Davis on the court as he can stretch the defense and knock down the three-pointer, I think he is solid play tonight.
Juancho Hernangomez (SF) had shown great value when he gets time on the floor as in the games he has seen 20+ minutes, he has put up about 4x-5x value including a monster 34.8 point performance agianst Cleveland last Thursday. We don’t know how much time Hernangomez is going to get tonight agianst Utah so he is our “low scoring play” of the night but we do like the upside he brings and expect to have at least an opportunity for a solid night based on his recent performance.
I’m a big fan of the Spurs main offensive weapons tonight as to go along with DeMar DeRozan, we’re going with LaMarcus Aldridge (SA). Aldridge hasn’t been dominate as of late, however, he is still having a solid season as he comes into this game averaging 20.6 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 3.1 apg, & 1.3 bpg. Aldridge is shooting just 44.3% on the floor this season but is coming off a solid game in which he was 10 for 13 for 24 points in just 24 min against the Suns and if he can keep that hot hand going tonight, he should easily crush his value at low price tag of $8,100.
There is nothing exciting about a Marcus Morris (PF) pick however, if you want a safe pick, there is hardly a better one in DFS right now. Morris is having a solid season for the Celtics as he comes into this game averaging 14.8 ppg, 7.1 rpg, and 1.0 apg in 25.3 mpg. Morris is the main scoring option on the 2nd unit for the Celtics and certainly has no problem getting up shots as he has put up at least double-digit shot attempts in each of his last 4 games. Morris has averaged about 30 FanDuel points over his last 4 games and as he should be see 25-30 minutes tonight, I think he is a good option that will hit value.
I really wanted to get DeRozan & Aldridge I my lineup and had to sacrifice a bit at the center position, however, I don’t mind rolling the dice with Cleveland’s Tristan Thompson (C). Since Larry Drew has taken over head coaching duties, Thompson has seen about 28.5 mpg and has averaged a double-double (10.5 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 3.5 apg). Charlotte hasn’t been anything special against the Center position this season and as Thompson has 40+ FanDuel point upside if he can get 10-15 points, I think he’ll hit value tonight at this price point.
