Atlanta Braves vs. St. Louis Cardinals
July 11, 2025 8:10 pm EDT

Major League Baseball presents Draftkings baseball fans with a National League matchup featuring the Atlanta Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Let’s take a look at this MLB game from a DFS perspective. Before we dive into the Atlanta Braves vs. St. Louis Cardinals game let’s review the rules for the Draftkings MLB single game showdown contest.

Draftkings Single Game Showdown Contest Rules

You have $50,000 to utilize on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your team captain. The captain accumulates 1.5 times the standard fantasy points. Additionally, the captain is 1.5 times the standard cost of the flex position.

The remaining four players in your lineup will receive the standard fantasy points. Having stated that, it is highly important for you to identify the correct player for your captain position if you hope to win a large field DFS GPP (guaranteed prize pool) showdown contest.

If you have additional questions regarding the rules for the single game showdown contest, I recommend that you check out the Draftkings website for more details.

*I recommend that all readers review the starting lineups for both teams prior to setting your DFS lineup for this one game slate.

Here are my Draftkings picks for tonight’s Braves vs. Cardinals matchup.

Draftkings MLB Showdown Picks

Captain-Grant Holmes, Starting Pitcher, Atlanta Braves $11,400

On Friday night, Major League Baseball presents the opening game of a three-game National League series featuring the Atlanta Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals.

How are these two teams playing entering this MLB game? The Atlanta Braves arrive at the first game of this three-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals playing below average baseball. The Braves have lost seven of the team’s last seven games played in the 2025 MLB regular season, including a 10-1 loss to the Athletics three days ago.

Similar to the Atlanta Braves, the St. Louis Cardinals are playing subpar baseball entering today’s National League contest. More specifically, the Cardinals have lost five of the team’s last eight games played this season, including a 5-0 shutout loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates last week.

Now that we have identified how both of these teams are currently playing let’s shift our focus to this evening’s contest. Starting pitcher Grant Holmes has emerged as a solid performer for the Atlanta Braves starting pitching rotation this season. Having stated that, how has the veteran pitcher performed from a statistical perspective? Let’s review Holmes relevant game data from the 2025 MLB regular season to answer that question.

In the 17 games that starting pitcher Grant Holmes has made for Atlanta Braves this season, Holmes has compiled a 4-8 (won-loss record), a 3.44 ERA (Earned Run Average) and a 1.24 WHIP (Walks and Hits per Inning Pitched) in 2025. Holmes has amassed 118 strikeouts (12th in MLB) while allowing 48 walks in 102 innings pitched this season.

Earlier this season, in the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1 win over the Atlanta Braves, Braves starting pitcher Grant Holmes pitched exceptionally well. Holmes pitched six quality innings while scattering four hits and two walks in the Dodgers victory over Atlanta. It should also be noted that in the Dodgers win over the Braves, Holmes tallied 23.9 Draftkings points.

In my view, Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Grant Holmes is the most likely player to post the most Draftkings points in this MLB game. With that said, I am backing Grant Holmes at the captain position for this one game MLB DFS slate.

Flex plays I like to play well in this MLB regular season contest (Draftkings price noted): Matthew Liberatore, Starting Pitcher (St. Louis Cardinals) $11,000: Brendan Donovan, Second Baseman (St. Louis Cardinals) $8,200: Ronald Acuna Jr., Outfielder (Atlanta Braves) $10,000.
