The Line: British Open See the Latest Odds
The 2014 British Open is soon to get underway this week and it comes with many juicy lines that have a chance to fatten your pockets heading into football season. Let the oddmakers keep Justin Rose and Rory McIlroy, we’re looking to hit the jackpot with some of the longshots.
Here are some players you should include on this week’s card.
USA TODAY Sports
Sergio Garcia – Although Garcia doesn’t have a win this season, he has finished in the Top 10 in six of his 10 events played. I like to look at that like he’s due to finally secure the top spot. There’s no better course for Garcia to win than the British Open considering he’s finished in the Top 10 seven times since 2000. Eventually a few of those balls have to bounce his way and help him seal the deal, right? Garcia is playing some of the most consistent golf we’ve seen from him in his career. Odds of +2000 are definitely worth a bite.
Rickie Fowler – Fowler is getting odds of +3000 to win his first career major. I’ll take the 25-year-old to win that bet in a heartbeat. Fowler did finish tied for fifth in the 2011 British Open, and he’s come dangerously close to winning his first major already this season. Fowler tied for fifth in this year’s Masters Tournament and finished second in this year’s U.S. Open. Like Garcia, you eventually have to think luck will be on his side and he’ll finally be able to close the deal. Fowler is likely going to head into this event with extreme confidence considering his recent success at the first two majors this year.
Jason Day – Day hasn’t fared well in past British Opens, finishing no better than 32nd, which came last year. However, there’s a reason Day is sitting with decent odds of +2500. It’s because he’s a golfer who usually plays his best the bigger the course. Despite just five seasons of participating in majors, Day has seven Top 10 finishes, with five of them being inside the Top 5. You have to like those odds with the way he hits the ball when the entire world is watching. I look for Day to break out of his funk on this course and perform at a high level like he has at other majors.
