The Line: -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The John Deere Classic enters this week with one of the weaker fields we’ve seen in the PGA this season. Still, that doesn’t mean there’s not a chance to make some money.
Here are some golfers you should include on your card this week.
USA TODAY Sports
Zach Johnson - There’s little to no value with the overall favorite in Jordan Spieth, but Zach Johnson packs a bit of a punch with odds of +890. Johnson absolutely loves this course and has a victory in 2012 with a -20 under par. Johnson is also one of the hotter golfers in this field, finishing in the top-20 in five of his last six events. Johnson also has six top-10 finishes in 17 events all season. Johnson is ninth in driving accuracy percentage, 16th in scoring average and 24th in birdie average. In a weak field, you’re better off going with one of the better and hottest golfers this week.
Steve Stricker - Steve Stricker hasn’t given us much to work with this season, as he’s played in just six events and missed the cut in two of those appearances. Stricker is also coming off a 79th-place finish at The Greenbrier. Not exactly great. Still, Stricker has won the John Deere Classic three times, all of which came in three consecutive years. Stricker also holds the tournament record with a -26 to par, which came in 2010. Even with the way he’s played this season, it’s hard not to throw some money on Stricker this week with odds of +3500 given his history.
Robert Streb - Robert Streb has really made up for a poor start to the season, as he’s racked up four top-10 finishes in his last five events. That includes a second place finish last week at The Greenbrier. Streb now has seven top-10 finishes in 22 events this season and has to be feeling good and confident about the way he’s playing as of late. Streb is 19th in total strokes gained and 15th in greens in regulation percentage. I like my chances with Streb and odds of +4000.
Chad Campbell - If you want a big boy underdog this week, try your hand with odds of +9500. Campbell has been a mixed bag as of late, missing the cut in 10 of his 23 events this season. However, Campbell has five top-25 finishes in 13 of the events he made the cut, and recently had a top-10 finish at the St. Jude Classic. Campbell has also made the cut in his last five appearances at the John Deere Classic. It’s worth a shot in the dark here if you’re looking to really hit the homerun.
Jordan Spieth - If you want to play it safe, Jordan Spieth is your guy with odds of +340. Spieth is well rested, by far the top golfer in this field and won this event in 2013. There’s a great shot Spieth wins this week, and you could always do worse than having a shot to more than triple your money.
